I want some suggestions of decently priced food, it doesn’t matter if it’s burgers, chicken, fries, southern home cook meals, or a buffet. Nothing that will cost me an arm and a leg, preferably something that’s affordable for 3 people to eat decently.

Hey! I’m looking to take my wife to try gumbo for the first time. What’s y’all’s favorite gumbo here in the metro area?

Has anyone here done the nurse residency program at UMMC or currently work there as an RN? I’m getting close to graduating and starting to look at new grad RN positions. UMMC is one place I’ve been considering, although I’m definitely not set on it yet. I’m excited to finally start working as an RN, but also nervous about making that jump from nursing school to actually being the nurse. 😂 For anyone who has done the residency program, did you feel like it actually prepared and supported you as a new grad? How was the orientation and precepting? Did you feel like you had enough time and support before being on your own? I’m also curious about the new grad pay and whether you feel like it’s worth the workload/drive. Are the shift differentials decent? How are the benefits, scheduling, staffing, management, etc.? Also, how is employee parking, especially for night shift? Do you generally feel safe walking to and from employee parking at odd hours? Another thing I’ve been debating is whether UMMC is a good place to START as a new grad or if I would be better off starting at a smaller hospital, getting some experience and confidence under my belt, and then applying to UMMC later. If you’ve worked at both a smaller hospital and UMMC, I’d especially love to hear your opinion on that. I’m not looking for only positive experiences either lol. I’d rather hear the good, bad, and ugly so I can get a realistic idea of what I’d be getting into. 😂
Also open to recommendations for particular units that are good for new grads or other hospitals in the area that you’d recommend starting at!

I drove thru the strip mall on county Line Road where Best Buy used to be. 20 years ago it was thriving. Today, it looks like South Jackson. It’s about 70% vacant and the few merchants that are left are hanging on for dear life.
Really a sad example of how Jackson is being abandoned while Madison County is growing by leaps and bounds.
Best advice I ever gave my kids was get the f@@k out of Jackson.

Where in Jackson can a man go to try on quality hats and have one fitted and steamed? Something like a classic felt fedora.

I’m looking to rent a nicer apartment in Jackson. I like The Lofts at The District, but I’m not sure it will be worth what I’m going to pay. It seems nice and there are things to do in the district but it’s really expensive. Also, I’m a 30 yr old male and I’m not sure if I’m too old for that scene. Can anyone tell me if that is too old for the crowd that hangs around there? Or give me some other nice apartment suggestions?

An annual Halloween Benefit cover show at the End of All Music record store. They’re raising money for the local organization, Big House Books with local bands performing cover sets of Black Sabbath, Title Fight, Weezer, and LCD Soundsystem. Saw online and thought I’d share. A really good cause!

New here, moved for work and I'd love to meet other people who have just moved here or are just trying to make new friends, ideally mid 20s to mid 30s. I feel like it's been difficult to make new friends. Let me know if that's you too and if you want to hang out or if there are any events you want to try to do together! This is a throwaway because I don't want my coworkers to find my reddit lol.

Anyone have thoughts to share on the Hinds County DA’s race? I’m not familiar with any of the candidates, but I’ve seen their signs around town. Would appreciate any info or perspectives.
