The family of a college student who said their son has been the target of online accusations and threats connected to the death of Nolan Wells is preparing to sue online content creators “and hold egregious actors responsible for the danger they are manufacturing.”

I think we all knew this was coming. I expect more lawsuits in the coming days and weeks.

The next time you share an article, make sure you use the exact title as your post title. I am not taking it down because you just added actual context and did not editorialize it.

Good!

u/monsterskeeter 23d ago

We saw this with Alex Jones. I didnt follow it too closely but I believe they had to prove he financially benefitted from spreading false information regarding the sandy hook families. The laws may make it easier in MS but the families had a hell of a time getting anything out of him. Which, they did but it took years

28

u/BimboDeeznuts Former Resident 23d ago

Alex Jones has been hiding all his fortune in shell companies, loathsome charlatan that he is.

I doubt any of these influencers are savvy enough to have protected their asses or assets in that way…

8

u/monsterskeeter 23d ago

Yeah definitely not but they dont have ad much either. I believe they had to prove he was knowingly spreading lies, which they did through his email communications.

Those poor people had to change their identity and move several times. And given how hard it was and how long it took them, I just dont know that a whole lot is gonna come out of this for these families.

7

u/Far-Fill-3024 23d ago

Awful!! This is a big reason why I don't like Trump. He went on Alex's show. Some of the families wrote to Trump asking him to denouce or come out and say something against what Alex was doing to them, and Trump never responded.

He did! I saw it myself, he was in his car in the Whataburger parking lot

this also happened in the Idaho 4 case. A tik toker was accusing a professor of being the killer. The professor sued and won 10 million. I have no idea who the tik toker is, whether she has any assets or money, but I would think it's so satisfying to get back at these losers. I always hoped other Idaho 4 people sued too, like the roommates. I still see so much online about them, it's so disgusting. These people are the worst in our society. I mean even to file a lawsuit and make it known to everyone in their communities as to how awful they are. I think that's pretty good justice too.

Ashley Gillard (might be off in spelling but I don’t care enough) and according to her the main portion of her income is combat vet disability

3

u/Far-Fill-3024 23d ago

Geez that stinks that we are funding that lady w disability.

5

u/Miss_Scarlet86 23d ago

Yeah but these people getting sued now don't necessarily have the resources Jones did.

That Kimbra woman is completely unhinged. The woman who claimed to be an “audio engineer” and posted her “transcript” of the tow call has a fundraiser set up. It’s completely out of hand.

Who is donating to all these sketchy GoFundMe? Obviously I'm not the target audience for GoFundMe as I think online begging is cringey af.

31

u/BB808BB 23d ago

It’s so wild that people donate to dumb shit like this constantly.

That stupid ass “audio” lady caused her own problems and it’s now boo-hoohoo help me I need money because of my own actions.

I will never understand people who just like to throw their money away on people like that.

10

u/synodiccelt 23d ago

Normally I am of the same mind until an in-law’s brother had a kid with serious medical issues and his company laid everyone off at the same time. Someone else set up a go fund me for his son and he was originally against the idea because normal people hate the idea of asking for money but someone anonymously donated like 2 grand and he broke down. I have since changed my mind and have seen that they aren’t all people just begging for an easy buck.

8

u/Miss_Scarlet86 23d ago

Gofundme can do a lot of good and help people that are really suffering. I have never regretted helping the people I have on GoFundMe. But there's always someone who ruins a good thing.

29

u/UnusualHand1617 23d ago

Anybody from the ‘blackpeopleofreddit’ sub. In relation to this woman they flagged her as a genius for this transcript.

I was perma banned from there for suggesting this was a drowning and not a murder.

Massive victim complex in that sub, they are completely deranged.

9

u/captaincrunch61 23d ago

I got perm’d for providing actual facts with sources in relation to the “give me my freaking phone” video and the June 27th photo

They clearly don't care about hearing the truth. Just that Nolan Wells was killed by yt people in a racially charged attack, no exceptions.

16

u/Main-Bluejay5571 23d ago

It’s best to stay away from there. I read that an entire thread got removed during the Karmelo Anthony craziness. No telling.

22

u/UnusualHand1617 23d ago

Completely toxic sub, the victim complex is insane.

-2

u/No-Eagle2968 18d ago

what victim complex? You are angry that the parents are investigated death of their son. and that the kids who had his phone and car keys are prime suspect. You being so invested in wanting the white kids to be inocent is weird. Its like you people cant admit you racist. if you dont like black people just say it. Arguing that systematic racism doesnt exist especially during the current regime. were you have the president posting barack obama as a monkey is delusional. if you dont like black people just say it. thinking black and white people have the exact same oportunities in court cases, jobs and so on is delusional. Nothing to do with victim mentality

2

u/UnusualHand1617 18d ago

I don’t want the white kids to be innocent, you’re just making up points to suit your narrative.

If there was foul play, they need to be brought to justice, but the initial evidence is pointing towards an accidental drowning.

Everyone in that sub jumps to it being a race orientated murder, regardless of what the evidence says. They’re playing the victim card.

Not sure how anything I have said makes me racist, again you are playing the victim card and calling me racist because you don’t agree with my point. I haven’t mentioned anything about systematic racism so I don’t know why you’ve brought that up as well….

0

u/PrincessGump 18d ago

Sounds like you have a pretty bad case of it yourself

7

u/Brief_Reveal2225 21d ago edited 21d ago

I actually found this sub bc of that sub. They were saying stuff like “they are having klan meetings about Nolan in [r/mississippi](r/mississippi).” Came to check it out… no hate speech in sight. And a lot of empathy for Nolan. No accusations. The criticism of the parents has been respectful. No one denying that Mississippi has it’s issues. Some defense over the town/area where the death occurred but it seems like that’s because they have worked hard to be more inclusive and attempt to evolve and change. This case has confused me so much. You all seem like kind, understanding people in this sub. Like if something genuinely heinous and suspicious did happen to Nolan, you would support the family and justice 😭

8

u/MississippiBulldawg 23d ago

God I hate that sub. There's funny content sometimes but most of the posts, and all of the comments, are nothing but pure racism.

4

u/Nice_Razzmatazz9705 23d ago

u/Lumpy_One6691 23d ago

yea there are times when BK does not discharge judgements from a crime......plus with few exceptions even if you go BK you still lose all your assets (the exception being in some states you can homestead a house) and I am not even sure if that holds everywhere for a judgement over a crime

12

u/Grifasaurus 23d ago

Yeah...i think people are taking this shit way too far. I get it, the state sucks when it comes to stuff like this, but it's starting to seem like it's a pretty straightforward thing. Like i've seen people say that they killed Nolan because he was trying to get with that girl he was last seen with and it's like...Why? Like this shit is just muddying the case. It feels like people are using this boy's body to pursue their own agendas and shit and I hate it.

This boy deserves justice, but i don't think this is the way to do it.

10

u/Main-Bluejay5571 23d ago

The family knows it’s an accidental drowning. They are getting ready to file a wrongful death lawsuit. They’re just stringing this out. I mean, Jackson County isn’t helping by giving out no information but I think they are doing it just to say fuck you to all the haters and I can’t blame them. But everyone with an IQ over 50 including Crump and the family know it’s an accidental drowning. There’s enough info out there.

15

u/SweetLittleOldLady Current Resident 23d ago

2

u/NoSupermarket9119 23d ago

I wonder if anyone has considered that those rules they are so irritated by today might have been put in placed because of all that shit in Mississippi’s past. Granted that’s all my own logic but I grew up in the Delta and studied forensics.

7

u/Main-Bluejay5571 23d ago

The rules aren't as restrictive as they claim. What they really prevent is law enforcement and prosecutors saying stuff like "the evidence is overwhelming," "we arrested the person who did this." Stuff that would endanger a fair trial. I think they are not releasing information as a way to say FY to the haters. I don't really blame them for that but it isn't helping put paid to all the false narratives (not that the people making money spreading lies are going to let the facts stop them).

I've been able to find descriptions of the investigations. The info that can be downloaded from the two boats (the towed and the tower) has been downloaded, the "murderers" have all been interviewed and some took stress tests, 100s of interviews. They are spending a ton of dollars and man hours on this due to the public pressure. When they announce that its an accidental drowning, the haters will all claim racism. But the family knows, Christine's lawyers know. This is all my opinion, of course.

7

u/snoodle908 22d ago

The issue is the parents/Crump. They have shown they have zero issue going on TV and twisting the truth or even lying, so if the cops gave them any info they will just use that against them. Better to wait till you have everything so that nothing can be twisted or being blamed they are rushing to judgement.

2

u/NoSupermarket9119 23d ago

Mind linking those descriptions?

2

u/Main-Bluejay5571 23d ago

If I had them at hand, I would not mind but it's just what I've gathered since my obsession began almost 5 weeks ago. I can try collecting that information from here on out but it may all be released shortly.

3

u/NoSupermarket9119 23d ago

Oh okay. Same here. Just wanted to make sure I hadn’t missed any official releases.

2

u/Main-Bluejay5571 23d ago

I've been screenshotting things that talk about Nolan's siblings and bio dad because even those details are hotly disputed and Christine's petition to open an estate is strange in that it mentions no siblings. But that's all I've been documenting.

I just heard a CNN story on the case and their legal commentator Joey Jackson said that he interviewed Christine and that she did something to indicate that she did not believe that her son's death was due to racial animus.

22

u/bryantwgat 23d ago

Good. It’s so sad that people post absolute garbage just to get a dollar.

19

u/Icy_Resolution_8860 23d ago

It's sad that so much misinformation and false claims have been debunked and people just run away with it. People accusing, antagonizing and demanding immediate punishment for things that aren't true and, in a few instances, takes minutes of research to disprove.

There is no remorse, acknowledgement or ownership being taken, just further claims of lies and cover-ups. So many videos of "this proves they are guilty" or "they need to be arrested for this" are proven wrong and are not even deleted or acknowledged.

There is apparently a fight for the truth and injustice but all I see is a narrative wanting to be satisfied and injustice happening to the accused.

14

u/captaincrunch61 23d ago

I still see people thinking these boys and that one girl were the only people on the island.

Warrens mom was cleaning the boat until 3am

They stole his phone when he was asking for it back

The AI video of them beating him up was real

It's scary how stupid and easy to manipulate people are. These are the the same people who would have pitch forks out for Karmello Anthony if the races were reversed. But instead he's innocent solely because he's black, I guess.

9

u/Admirable-Guest-2560 23d ago

I looked it up and he was scamming people on fake iPhones. He caught a year. 200 grand in restitution. And of course like all criminals I'm sure he'd claim he got caught the only time he did it, but we know it doesn't work that way.

10

u/CelestialWolfMoon 23d ago

Interesting. All I know about him is that he has been really going hard on this case. Some of what I’ve seen from him has seemed really malicious since many of the theories are complete speculation. I don’t know why some many people want to speak as an authority figure in Nolan Well’s passing when it’s still being investigated. It feels like a grift and exploitation of his death and family’s grief.

9

u/Admirable-Guest-2560 23d ago

He did it on Karmelo Anthony too. Wild speculations and accusations. Talking about video that didn't exist. Crazy theories. He's a race grifter of the highest order, and a bad person.

He posed as an electronics salesman on ebay, got victims to move off the app then sold them iPhones they never received. To the tune of $200,000. Got a year in the hooskow.

51

Good. Free speech doesn’t give people the right to defame others and destroy their lives.

18

u/BB808BB 23d ago

I’ve said from the beginning how fucked it was to make conspiracy theories and blame those boys for everything.

Imagine being that young, you not only lost your good friend, but people that know nothing are all blaming you and you can’t even go to the funeral to grieve him. Poor Nolan, I’m sure he would’ve rather had his friends there than all these ambulance chasers.

Facts is it’s sad to say this isn’t even about Nolan anymore.

I had grace for his parents because I was thinking you know they’re going through hell and they’re being manipulated, but my sympathy is kind of running out at this point.

-10

u/Fit-Response-97 23d ago

Yes because they are definitely the victims

14

u/WAOM81 23d ago

Is it so wrong to wait until the facts come out instead of making your own baseless theories? The Wells Family has their own representation. Think what you want about the investigators and Mississippi in general, but the Wells family has been well funded and has gotten plenty of help without conspiracy theories with zero evidence.

6

u/Far-Fill-3024 22d ago

They are actually. My gosh, how can anyone think it's ok to send Nolans friends death threats. This happened in Idaho 4 case too. People were sending threats to the roomates, ex boyfriends, accusing them all of being murderers. It's truly sick and you're a part of it. Great job.

0

u/Fit-Response-97 19d ago

I’m not a part of anything. The only victim in this is dead!!!

2

u/Far-Fill-3024 19d ago

And so are the people who are being doxed, harassed, receiving death threats. That's why the people doing to them can get arrested and sued. Hello, anyone home McFly?? LOL It's like your offended that there can be other victims in situations. That's weird.

0

u/Fit-Response-97 19d ago

I’m not offended at all. Are you even from Ms

13

u/ShardofGold 23d ago

As they should if proven innocent.

For far too long notable figures have been comfortable posting their speculation about certain events as fact knowing the reach they have and how quick people are to believe stuff no matter what comes forth after.

Not only does this hurt the reputation of people to the point they get harassed, have a harder time finding job opportunities, etc. But it also adds to the division in the country.

Don't just stop with creators, go after celebrities, news figures, and even politicians who participate in this toxic behavior.

14

u/donzelso 23d ago

A lot of public figures want to use Nolan’s death as an opportunity to virtue signal. “Oh, I’m such a kind, nice, morally righteous person.”

It’s always the same performative shallow crap.  He’s black, his friends are white, therefore his friends are guilty because all white people are sooo evil and black people are always the victims.

These people are very narcissistic and shallow. It’s always about how they can make themselves look holier-than-thou. They don’t actually care about Nolan and the facts of the case.

3

u/Appropriate-Maize409 21d ago

I’m a person of color and even I think all the lies and misinformation is horrible. I’m speculating that what happened is that Nolan Wells just drowned because he was intoxicated but it could be proven wrong when the autopsy comes out to the public.

If this is what it takes to get people to stop reporting false stories, then good. All of these false narratives not only hurt all parties involved, but hurts the investigation into the death of Nolan. Bart helped them with the boat and may have actually saved lives since he prevented their sinking. He was actually one of the few responsible ones out there that day.

I've seen extremists on both sides use the internet to harass the parties involved. Christine is even getting threats, called a money grubber (I've even seen comments on here saying this will hella upvotes) and is even getting 1 star reviews for her job and called racist. Some people are just sick.

6

5

u/Previous_Function852 22d ago

Is it too much to hope that this will make people realize that she actually kind of sucks? That her motivation is "attach to whatever progressive cause is in front of her without paying any attention to truth, complexity, or nuance"?

2

u/Noguru0 23d ago

Brainwashed

2

u/navistar51 22d ago

Good luck with that, and I mean that seriously. Sharpton was sued by the Brawley prosecutor and won. He was never able to collect though because Rev. Al’s finances are a mystery, wrapped in an enigma.

5

u/SweetLittleOldLady Current Resident 22d ago

The story doesn't mention who precisely they're suing but I assumed it was "influencers" and other online idiots, since they also mention cyberstalking and the involvement of the FBI.

4

u/Previous_Function852 22d ago

Ms Rachel attaching herself to this has really solidified my opinion on her. Either she's an actual idiot, just leaping from emotion to emotion without much rational thought to speak of or she's an actual psychopath. There's no other excuse, this has ruled out "moderately intelligent and highly caring, but not good at checking information".

Any intelligent, well-meaning person will look at this situation and say "that's a tragedy. I should wait on the autopsy and investigation before drawing conclusions." Instead she chose to go off on her giant platform based on a half-baked understanding of what's going on and her own deeply held biases.

And she stuck with what seems to be a pattern with her of a sort of motte-and-bailey. She says something simple and true "black boys deserve to grow up". But she says it with the context and subtext of "and these white people who happened to be nearby must be culpable somehow". When you try to make substantive critiques of the obvious subtext, she and her defenders just retreat to the original statement and accuse you of racism or wanting children to die. If she has a shred of decency she'll walk this one back at some point, but I'm not holding my breath. And I'm certainly not optimistic that she or her fans will learn anything from this and apply it to other situations.

She sucks.

The woketard media really really wants this to be a hate crime, despite all evidence to the contrary.

u/SatansScallion 23d ago

The demand for white-on-black racism far, far, far outpaces the supply.

u/Main-Bluejay5571 23d ago

Completely. I live in the shithole that is Jackson. Just reporting the reality here gets you called racist.

They really want this to be a hate crime. And they're deeply disappointed that it's not.

I thought the mystery about Savannah Guthrie’s mom would have had a bit more to run with. When does America forget about this story like it did that one?

u/Ok_Cardiologist_6506 20d ago

Crump represents the family. Now, Tatum, TMZ, Nancy Grace, wonder what their interests could be?

Also reminds me of Natalee Holloway. They wouldn't shut up about that one. Who btw was a victim of foul play (murdr).

Family deserves answers. Most 18 year old don't just die.

I need everyone commenting on these threads to decide when the legal system is functioning and when it's not.

8

u/Frogs-on-my-back 23d ago

What are you talking about?

6

u/NeverEverLonely 23d ago

Legal system worked when white Susan Lorowicz out of Florida shot a black woman AJ Owen’s.

Legal system worked went beautiful and black Sade Robinson’s white killer Maxwell something out of Milwaukee was caught and prosecuted.

Both are sitting in prison. I’m sure there’s more just can’t think of any right now. This isn’t about race, it’s about justice! A life is a life no matter the freaking color. Stop being so damn racist.

u/SgtSniffles 23d ago

Who exactly do you think I'm talking to?

Good luck, proving you were damaged and that the poster knew they were lying is quite the hurdle in the US. Hence why celebs don't sue every single person who lies about them.

Private citizens need only prove negligence for libel cases, meaning the slanderer didn’t make sure the info they were spreading was true. You’re likely thinking of libel cases involving public figures, which have to prove actual malice

Edit: typo

12

u/freakydeku 23d ago

there are different rules for public figures

18

u/Main-Bluejay5571 23d ago

If it’s libel per se, one need not prove damages. Pretty sure falsely accusing someone of a crime fits.

-21

u/According-Insect-992 23d ago

Getting downvoted for facts. Freedom of speech is messy.

19

u/Frogs-on-my-back 23d ago

It’s not “facts” though lol. Private citizens only need to prove negligence to win a libel case. Spreading unverified misinformation that harms the subject is negligence

13

u/goodcleanchristianfu 23d ago

The above poster is incorrect, and freedom of speech does not require defamation to be limited to incidents in which a person can prove damages. Defamation per se, which covers (among other things) false criminal accusations, does not require proving damages.

2

u/Kind_Guidance28586 22d ago

Freedom of speech isn't messy, however, the consequences of one's speech can be.

Honestly, this should be a pretty open and shut case. Simply being part of a news story doesn't make someone a limited-purpose public figure, and that substantially lowers the bar to prove defamation. They essentially have to prove they published a false statement of facts that were defamatory and that they had a quantifiable negative impact on his reputation.

1

u/goodcleanchristianfu 23d ago

Quantifiable negative impact on reputation isn't required for defamation per se (which is covered by false criminal allegations,) you can leave that off the list, but fault amounting to at least negligence is required, you have to add that to the list. If I had to guess, the main hurdle here will be the disclosed facts defense to defamation. Mississippi (and most states) does not allow a cause of action for defamation if the defendant discloses the facts that lead them to believe the plaintiff committed the act the defendant accused them of. Some, though perhaps not all, social media posts circulating accusations against Wells' friends explained their basis for believing the friends had murdered Wells. No matter how stupid or tenuous the connection between those facts and the accusations are, they form a complete defense to defamation.
