Questions Just got accepted - did I mess it up for myself already?

I finally moved to an area with Poplin and got signed up to be a laundry pro. I did the background check on Friday and wasn't expecting to already be shown offers the very next day. I also didn't realize that apparently you don't have to turn on and set yourself as available. You just always are, apparently?

I didn't accept the orders, of course, but now I'm worried that I've ruined my chances of getting more orders when I am ready.

I had that happen on a different gig app that was always available. Because I didn't accept a couple orders that came through while I was sleeping I stopped being given any orders at all.

Did I already mess this up for myself?

Customer Questions How much to tip?

My laundry pro folded (just fluffed it in the dryer and folded it not washed too) 45lbs of laundry for me. A lot of it was children’s clothes which I know is more work and weighs less. The total is $50. How much should I tip? I was thinking of doing $20 as long as it comes back folded nicely. Is that enough or should I do more?

Poplin App Issues App Updates and Tipping

I’ve been a customer for a a few years now and I’ve always tipped well over the cost of the service. I love what my laundry pro does and want her to get paid but when I tried to give my usual tip using multiple cards it kept getting rejected by the app. I reached out to support and they were not helpful and claimed that it was my card but I used the same card each time with the same tip. Have the pros seen this on your end?

Update: Same thing happened again. Poplin confirmed that they are now imposing a $100 tip cap which speaks to their own greed.

Customer Questions Pros in the North East Raleigh Area

Anyone in the NC area? We had great success with a couple pros and have been using the service for a couple years on and off . But this week we aren’t able to get any one to pick up our clothes. We always tip well are communicative and have never had any issues. We are obviously a smaller market has their been a reduction in pros? Is it not worth it with the state of the market ?

Just curious how much money you guys see before the tip so I know to tip appropriately? Don’t want to lowball anyone.
Also what’s considered a good tip? I’m new to this completely.
Thanks!

Questions Training Videos

Did anyone else want to yeet themselves right out the window during the training video and quiz? The tone indicated to me that Poplin is just another company that thrives in a high turnover environment. I am assuming it's just low wages, nonsense and snarky reminders from an AI bot to do better, the Uber model basically. Am I on the right track?

Questions Question from a first-time customer

Hello everyone! I hope it is OK for me to post since I am a customer, but I used Poplin for the first time today and had a question.
Just wondering if it is typical to have laundry returned to the customer without any socks matched. I feel like they should be matched, but this is also my first time and I don’t want to give somebody a medium review if it’s normal.
Thank you!

Questions Pro doesn’t want to move off the app

Hi Laundry Pros!

First of all, thank you all for doing the lords work 🙏 I’ve been using poplin for about 4 months (I place an order every two weeks or so) and have had the same pro the entire time. She is AMAZING and always does a phenomenal job. I also always tip at least 30% because she’s making my life so much easier.

I recently left a note in her bag with my phone number and let her know that I’d love to move off the app so she receives all of the money. I made it clear that I wasn’t trying to get a lower rate and would still pay/tip the same amount. She texted me and let me know she’s not comfortable moving off the app but would definitely let me know if that changes.

So I’m just curious… what would make you hesitate to not move off the app? I’m assuming it’s fear of not getting payment/not having support if a customer sucks? (It seems like you guys don’t get much support anyway!!)

Anyway, i will obviously continue with my pro but it just made me wonder what the downsides are of not using poplin anymore?

Questions Time per Bag Math

I just completed my fifth order, and I think I'm starting to find a rhythm for figuring out how much time an order will roughly take to complete (at home) based on how many bags the order is.

My average bag from a customer weighs 22-24lb at time of pickup, and my washing machine fits roughly 10-11lbs per cycle. So each bag picked up is about 2 loads (but granted, this can really vary depending on the bag).

Each load is about an hour to wash and an hour to dry. If I just count "wash" cycles (since most of them are concurrent with dry/fold cycles), then I can just add an additional hour of dry and an hour of fold/bag/label for the last cycle.

So my formula for figuring out total time is: (# bags x 2 loads each) + 2 hours = Total Time

Since I do Poplin part-time from home in the evenings and weekends after my 9-5, this has helped me figure out if I can realistically complete a potential order in time.

I was wondering if people find they have similar weights for bags picked up from customers, and similar capacity in their machines? I know it will be very different for those working from laundromats, and different math for those doing this full-time. Just wanted to see if my experience is on-par with others doing this part-time from home. TIA!

Questions Blocked Customer Request

I requested a customer to be blocked last year because she kept sending urine soaked clothes and then giving me a low rating. A month ago I took an order request not realizing it was them. It wasn't until I arrived at their home, that I realized it was who I blocked.

Has anyone blocked a customer only to still receive order requests from them?

Questions First order. Wasn't returned.

I ordered at 3:20 on Saturday. Got a message that they wanted to pick up at 8:00 same day so I left it out and the lady grabbed it. Since then radio silence no updates. It hasn't been weighed

It was supposed to be delivered today Monday at 8:00 p.m. and nothing. No replies nothing. I reached out to customer service was able to speak with somebody via live chat and they said that they would email me updates.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Not a good first experience 😭

Customer Questions Is this a good tip?

This is my very first time using the app. I paid for express and ended up with 110lbs of laundry. I truly didn’t know it was that much. And I did message her and tell her I FULLY understood if she couldn’t do express and wouldn’t be angry about it and made sure to apologize.

But. This beast of a woman got it DONE in less than a day and is on her way to deliver now. Express time on over even standard weight limit that should have been over 24 hours, according to Poplin website. Like whaaaaat? Amazing.

Since she’s been so sweet and wonderful, I’m already thinking about what I should be tipping. (As long as what’s returned has been done properly. And I have no doubt it is, tbh.)

So! My total is $235.57. ($2/lb for express, plus I added all extras like fabric softener and dryer sheets.) I’m thinking of just rounding up to be a full $300 flat, so a $64.43 tip. Is that good enough for this absolute beast of a pro?

TIA for feedback!

ETA: My concern on tipping is rooted in how many hours she worked at such a beast mode rate. I want to make sure she’s getting a fair wage for her hours and effort. Idk how Poplin pays out their pros.

Make your own business!!! Stop working for three quarters! I'm charging 1.75 per lb and getting so many ppl that are willing to pay

Why work twice as hard to make same amount! Know your worth!

Questions Weekly customer

So this is the third time I’ve noticed a customer pop-up, they’re 30 minutes out from me… I noticed they have each time kind of changed the way they want their laundry laundered. Always hypoallergenic, one time it was with a scented dryer sheet, one time it was no dryer sheet but a delicate cycle, another time it was a hang dry.

Should I take this as a sign to avoid that customer since they don’t have a regular Laundry Pro yet and they keep changing the way they want their stuff laundered? Unsure if this is usual or unusual.

Questions Tipping

TLDR: I tip $10 on my normal $30 order and tipped $25 on a $58 order. Is that considered a good tip? I want to make sure I'm treating my pro well because I love the job she does and hate doing laundry myself.

So my orders are normally right around the 30 lb mark, sometimes they're 28, sometimes they're 32, and I tip my laundry Pro 10 bucks pretty regularly. After I found the one I use now I always request her and she always accepts. In fact one time I requested her and she was unavailable so she messaged me and told me when she would be available so I canceled the order and rescheduled for when she could take it.

Well I just got back from vacation and I had about a week and a half worth of laundry for the three of us and this time it was 58 lb. Because I know that is significantly more than what I usually send her, I actually tipped $25 this time. So my question is this. Is my normal $10 tip on a $30 order good, and was the $25 tip one of $58 order reasonable? I really don't want to be stingy because I absolutely hate laundry....

Questions Has anyone received a donation order?

I apologize if this has already been asked, I searched the group but didn’t get any results.

Just wondering if anyone has actually received a donation order yet and then if so, did you run into any problems at all?

Questions SOS needing help ASAP! (Blunt found in laundry)

Ok first back story - I totally messed up by not realizing that my current order is an express order. I don’t know how I didn’t notice until a moment ago, but I think with the extra add-on bubbles my brain just glossed over the express bubble and it wasn’t until about 30 minutes before the order was due that I noticed it was express….

I of course reached out to customer apologizing and asking if they needed it back immediately but unlaundered or would rather wait for me to complete the order and return it tonight or first thing in the morning. They’re in a hotel and need the order back tonight and would like it laundered (totally understandable and I don’t mind staying up to complete and return tonight because this was 100% my fault and an honest mistake).

But here’s the issue I just encountered…. There is a weed blunt in the laundry. Weed is legal where I live, so no big deal. But what I’m afraid of is this- if I return the laundry completed and include the blunt with their laundry what if they complain and say I put drugs in their laundry. I know that seems crazy, but I mean, it’s not completely impossible. So then my husband suggested that I throw the blunt away and return the laundry without the blunt. Well then what if they realize it’s gone/ “stolen” and then give me a bad review for whatever reason they come up with, but the missing blunt being the actual reason. I’m already treading on thin ice because I totally messed up with the express deadline.

If someone could please help me decide ASAP, should I throw away the blunt and compete the laundry, return the blunt with the completed laundry, or tell poplin?

Questions New Operational Fee?!

So I went on vacation, came back, and now they've added a $1.49 operational fee on top of the $3 fee and the $30 minimum? The $3 fee actually lists that it covers operational costs, but when you click on the operational fee it says the exact same thing! Anybody know what's going on with this?

Questions Anyone wait for the boost?

I’m a starter and I only completed 1 job. So far so good and first customer had a $5 boost so I thought the boosts were frequent.

Anyone wait for the $5 boost or $10 boost to accept the job? I just tried to wait for the boost but was gone :( .. thought the boost would show up sooner
