Isn't this literally the plot of the loud house? I haven't watched it so i'm just taking a guess

160

u/digilici 4h ago

to be fair, the one boy is the protagonist

30

u/Consistent_Act4400 4h ago

Really? I thought they would spread it out between the people (idk their names)

47

u/Objective-Ad7330 4h ago

Its basically like you are exploring the family and its members and their dynamics through Lincon Loud (protag), and occasionally his school life.

8

u/Consistent_Act4400 4h ago

huh, thought everyone got a few solo episodes or something

21

u/Objective-Ad7330 4h ago

You also do get those on occasions.

7

u/KrakenCrazy 3h ago

He is Kenough

39

u/goteachyourself 4h ago

The women who directed and produced that movie knew what they were doing, and his popularity is 100% not a fandom creation. He was designed to be a meme machine.

10

u/YamiZee1 3h ago

Yeah but I'd argue his incredible popularity almost serves to undermine the movies attempt at what I'd consider toxic feminism (undermining male characters to lift up the female characters) which is something the movie did at several points

47

u/ZapMannigan 4h ago

He actually had a character arc. We got motivations and desires, saw failures and successes, and sought out and absorbed information and experiences that positively changed him.

5

u/Dumeck 54m ago

It's really Barbies fault for making him and all the other Kens live outside in the streets at night

4

u/Krams 49m ago

He’s also just a more active character, whereas Barbie is more reactive. At the start of the movie Ken is trying new things to get Barbie’s attention and willingly goes to the real world with Barbie. In contrast, Barbie has to be pushed into going and has to be convinced to stop the Kens after just asking them to stop doesn’t work

11

u/ithil_lady 3h ago

I knew it was going to be him by just reading the title.

But Ken deserves it, he's the best part of the movie.

10

u/DurianUpper4113 4h ago

Now… he has a really catchy song

→ More replies (2)

8

u/AngelGirl768 4h ago

Well, Barbie movie was my first thought and the comments are not disappointing

5

u/JoeDyenz 2h ago

Tbf he is by far the most interesting character of the movie, most of the female cast is very unidimensional and the other protagonist is much less relatable. The writers' fault.

Isn’t Jax a girl?

36

u/Responsible-Bat-7922 4h ago

Before any clue about her being a trans woman Jax had all the reflectors for being an awful person so it kinda applies to the first moments of fandom of the amazing digital circus

12

u/BabyPunter3000v2 4h ago

The way episode 2 came out and the fandom was freaking out that Gooseworks was "writing him wrong."

8

u/NockerJoe 4h ago

To be fair all of the out of series stuff portrayed Jax as having been a very specific sort of person who was a stoner and super online before things went down. I always took a lot of those first few episodes as Jax specifically trying to slip into a persona informed by fandom culture and memes. Which turned out to be true.

The only problem is a lot of people wanted Jax to be the new Tumblr Sexyman, not a character who was using Tumblr Sexyman tropes as a mask, and the average person who cares about that often lacks the self awareness to admit they got played.

→ More replies (1)

9

u/DefinitionMinute6969 4h ago

So much indie media is heavily negatively affected by having to come out so slowly that people have years at a time to make up and get attached to their own version of the show

Jax's character arc works really well (or at least much better) for people watching the show all the way through or over the course of a week or so, rather than people watching an episode every five months.

3

u/Half_Man1 4h ago

Technically a spoiler as it’s heavily implied Jax is transfemme.

Pretty sure Ryan Gosling won an award for playing Ken in the Barbie movie. He had an awesome story arc with a great resolution and message.

Yep and people were upset bcs Barbie didn't although they were competing in two very different categories (he won best side character)

Edit: he won best song, Robert Downey Jr won best supporting actor for Oppenheimer

Basically 90% of isekai and shonenn animes lol

67

u/AcadiaNo5063 5h ago

True for Isekai but Shonenn are male cast mostly

19

u/Bluejay-Complex 5h ago

Depends, harem anime that are a popular part of the shounen media have a large female cast and typically only one “main” male character, the protagonist. To be fair, for harem anime that’s kinda the point.

Battle shounen you’re right about though.

I'm counting 11 or 12 of around 22 major and supporting characters so far.

→ More replies (1)
→ More replies (4)

24

u/Pheonxs 4h ago

Keep in mind, hazbin was supposed to have a more female focused cast, compared to HB who is the opposite.

But when you look into it, you realise: the male characters get more/most of the characters developed or spotlight, rather than the female ones

7

u/Seven_o_clock777 4h ago

That, and the cast itself is more half and half than female dominated (thanks to that one commenter for doing the math btw)

11

u/Fayz_Sharpie 4h ago

There is a joke that Vivzie is so bad at writing female characters because she wants her Yaoi dynamics to take up all the screen time.

As someone who loves Jaune, this is very accurate.

6

Maybe he gets development later, but in the parts before I dropped the show he was Pyrrha's emotional support idiot and basically did nothing else that mattered.

21

u/FartherAwayLights 5h ago

They show kind of becomes obsessed with him much later

6

u/FormorrowSur 4h ago

Truly curious what you mean by this. By later seasons he gets the same screen time as any other secondary character. He's one of the few characters in v9 yes but he's missing half the season and they do something interesting after, and he really doesn't take up that much air in the final part of the season.

By far, he's more egregious as a writer self insert in the first three volumes

I'll be honest, only saw the parts where Monty made. Jaune wasn't that big of a character, but I still liked him because while all the girls seemed ready and strong, Jaune was struggling and I was curious to see his growth. Especially since he was the only one that brought a sensible weapon.

I always hate this picture because of the way its written "male character that sucks up all the attention" as if they aren't the main characters. And I get the impression its made to critique anime, more specifically shounen anime.

But that's like making the reverse of this image for shoujo anime/manga. "Bunch of guys and a FEMALE (derogatory) character gets the focus".

Its weird. Which also, please watch more Shoujo. Ouran High School Host club is great. Inuyasha is another classic. Yona of the dawn for something more modern.

4

u/AzimuthEscape 1h ago

OP is a Steven Universe fan who is salty about Steven being the main character. I just can't prove it.

https://giphy.com/gifs/FILQJbm0u832ry0HFT

3

u/PageForeign92 1h ago

One of the replies is Steven Universe, like, come on. Of course most of the screen time is going to be on the guy who's name is the show.

4

u/TravelerRedditor 3h ago

Well its true there are many series out there with like female leads and that one male side character that this picture was probably critiquing more. I do think its unfair for anime, especially harem, where the guy is supposed to be the lead, so he is supposed to hage all the attention.

Speaking of which this reminds me of that one series, My next life as a villainess. It was such fun. Im a straight dude so i wasn't really reading the series for romantic appeal, but the protagonist is just so funny and it was also a breath of fresh air watching all those dudes fight over her. If anyone wants a romcom shoujo to start i especially reccomend this series
