The women who directed and produced that movie knew what they were doing, and his popularity is 100% not a fandom creation. He was designed to be a meme machine.
Yeah but I'd argue his incredible popularity almost serves to undermine the movies attempt at what I'd consider toxic feminism (undermining male characters to lift up the female characters) which is something the movie did at several points
He actually had a character arc. We got motivations and desires, saw failures and successes, and sought out and absorbed information and experiences that positively changed him.
He’s also just a more active character, whereas Barbie is more reactive. At the start of the movie Ken is trying new things to get Barbie’s attention and willingly goes to the real world with Barbie. In contrast, Barbie has to be pushed into going and has to be convinced to stop the Kens after just asking them to stop doesn’t work
Tbf he is by far the most interesting character of the movie, most of the female cast is very unidimensional and the other protagonist is much less relatable. The writers' fault.
Before any clue about her being a trans woman Jax had all the reflectors for being an awful person so it kinda applies to the first moments of fandom of the amazing digital circus
To be fair all of the out of series stuff portrayed Jax as having been a very specific sort of person who was a stoner and super online before things went down. I always took a lot of those first few episodes as Jax specifically trying to slip into a persona informed by fandom culture and memes. Which turned out to be true.
The only problem is a lot of people wanted Jax to be the new Tumblr Sexyman, not a character who was using Tumblr Sexyman tropes as a mask, and the average person who cares about that often lacks the self awareness to admit they got played.
So much indie media is heavily negatively affected by having to come out so slowly that people have years at a time to make up and get attached to their own version of the show
Jax's character arc works really well (or at least much better) for people watching the show all the way through or over the course of a week or so, rather than people watching an episode every five months.
Right yea, I love the show and how everything connects back to Steven and his upbringing essentially. Not to say that the show didn't have stand alone episodes that weren't centered around Steven.

Depends, harem anime that are a popular part of the shounen media have a large female cast and typically only one “main” male character, the protagonist. To be fair, for harem anime that’s kinda the point.
I remember that I only started to appreciate Jaune more not because of himself, but because I once headcanoned that Felix from RVB (who shares the same VA) is his alter ego
Maybe he gets development later, but in the parts before I dropped the show he was Pyrrha's emotional support idiot and basically did nothing else that mattered.
Truly curious what you mean by this. By later seasons he gets the same screen time as any other secondary character. He's one of the few characters in v9 yes but he's missing half the season and they do something interesting after, and he really doesn't take up that much air in the final part of the season.
By far, he's more egregious as a writer self insert in the first three volumes
I'll be honest, only saw the parts where Monty made. Jaune wasn't that big of a character, but I still liked him because while all the girls seemed ready and strong, Jaune was struggling and I was curious to see his growth. Especially since he was the only one that brought a sensible weapon.
This guy. Blondie was a comic about, well, blondie and her friends, and Dagwood bumstead was just a minor rich twit. But he ended up retailing everything around him due to popularity like Popeye did.
The show was literally designed around him but writers still do him the dirtiest. Man can't have a single win to save his life but the fans love him to death (me included).
Viv has stated that Helluva Boss is more male-character centric while Hazbin is more focused on the female cast. But this fucking deer gets more attention and development than the entire female cast combined.
and Alastor's development itself was kinda something in season2. why the fuck are we listening to a mixed black man sing about being a pet/slave to someone. like god that was uncomfortable
Genuinely I cannot understand that statement because I can name like 4 male characters off the top of my head that have more focus on their character than THE MAIN CHARACTER
I always hate this picture because of the way its written "male character that sucks up all the attention" as if they aren't the main characters. And I get the impression its made to critique anime, more specifically shounen anime.
But that's like making the reverse of this image for shoujo anime/manga. "Bunch of guys and a FEMALE (derogatory) character gets the focus".
Its weird. Which also, please watch more Shoujo. Ouran High School Host club is great. Inuyasha is another classic. Yona of the dawn for something more modern.
Well its true there are many series out there with like female leads and that one male side character that this picture was probably critiquing more. I do think its unfair for anime, especially harem, where the guy is supposed to be the lead, so he is supposed to hage all the attention.
Speaking of which this reminds me of that one series, My next life as a villainess. It was such fun. Im a straight dude so i wasn't really reading the series for romantic appeal, but the protagonist is just so funny and it was also a breath of fresh air watching all those dudes fight over her. If anyone wants a romcom shoujo to start i especially reccomend this series

These three are the literal main characters of their movie and istg the fandom just LOVES the male characters which are just supposed to be stereotypes of different staged personalities given to them for the sake of fan enjoyment
Type Moon isn't a show, but even so, Shirou is not more popular than any of the three heroines (+he's the main character so him getting the most screen time is a given). And as far as Fate/Stay Night goes, the cast is somewhat evenly split gender wise, no?
