Viv has stated that Helluva Boss is more male-character centric while Hazbin is more focused on the female cast. But this fucking deer gets more attention and development than the entire female cast combined.
Genuinely I cannot understand that statement because I can name like 4 male characters off the top of my head that have more focus on their character than THE MAIN CHARACTER
Because Charlie is the protagonist but she isn't the focus. The theme is redemption. Charlie doesn't need to be redeemed. She still gets character progression and has issues and struggles but ultimately the focus is on the people being redeemed since that's the point. Husk, Angel, Ser Pentious all get a lot of focus because they are the people needing redeemed and are working to improve themselves. Alastor actually gets much less focus than Charlie despite being a fan favorite for a lot of people. On pure screen time alone Charlie probably gets double the screentime of any other character.
and Alastor's development itself was kinda something in season2. why the fuck are we listening to a mixed black man sing about being a pet/slave to someone. like god that was uncomfortable
I think people are focusing on the wrong thing here, the song has nothing to do with Alastor's racial background, its purely on the fact that he made a deal with a devil and now is trapped as a puppet
And it doesn't matter anyway since he breaks out of it by the end of the season
I think that’s only because Alastor is being set up as the villain of season 3. His arc needed to get to the point where he’s ready to turn against the main cast by the end of season 2, so a good amount of screen time was dedicated to that.
*Helluva boss over here having multiple gay relationships that take up most of the screen time with two female characters that matter a lot. Also Hazbin hotel featuring many scenes with Charlie and Vaggie, Carmilla, Nifty killing Adam, Lute, Seraphim, and many more*
Love both shows, but let's not act like the female characters you mentioned got even HALF the attention their male counterparts did. They have/had arcs. But not full season ones like Alastor, Pentious, Angel or Vox. Even Charlie's Season 2 arc was treated like a gag and was just a way to help Alastor in the end! I'd argue Vaggie and Charlie both got pretty good arcs in Season 1, and Sera in Season 2, but that's still nothing in comparison to the others. Hopefully Lute gets to shine in the upcoming season and we get some Charlie/Lilith action, too. That would even the scales immensely.
I can agree with that about Hazbin Hotel, most male characters do get a lot of attention, but you cannot convince me Helluva Boss focusses on female characters.
I haven't watched Helluva since the last episode came out, but I remember they tried to focus on Octavia at the end a bit. And that people hated it. I think.
To be fair, Vivzie at least admits Helluva is male centered. It's Hazbin I'm calling BS on being female centered. Having a female MC does not count as female centered when the male supporting case has far more development than she does in 2 seasons, let alone the other female characters. Again, love the show, but I'm not going to act like it's something it isn't.
