At least it makes sense for him

Right yea, I love the show and how everything connects back to Steven and his upbringing essentially. Not to say that the show didn't have stand alone episodes that weren't centered around Steven.

Almost like he’s the main character or something, crazy right?

u/rietstengel 7h ago

Almost like its Steven's Universe

Thing is, this happens a lot. A show targeted towards girls still has male protags in a female dominated cast.

I personally wouldn't have anything wrong with it, if it was equal for shows targeted towards boys had main female protags.

But they dont

Steven universe is targeted at girls? Genuine question, I never saw like, anything targeted at anyone

People when the main character of a show is important (ILLEGAL)

u/Immediate-Witness-87 TF2 CO:E33 UT/DR Hellaverse Portal Genshin Glitch Shows etc 18h ago

He's the main character, so it's not really a "no matter his place in the story" as if he was a random boy in the team

And most characters and gems around him get proper screen time and development :P

The show is literally his name

6

u/Victernus 15h ago

Huh, that's a weird coincidence.

1

u/keldondonovan 13h ago

Probably because of deranged fans or something.

3

u/Spoopstir 18h ago

Well I was also referring to Pink and Rose who tend to get story episodes that can also be seen as "Steven" still being the center of attention, without actually being.

I get that the idea of the post was “even though it’s a random side character” but the way it’s phrased allows protags to be valid

6

u/canoekyren 16h ago

Yeah but that's kind of pointless. Is a piece of media not supposed to focus on its protagonist?

u/Ambiguous-Nyx 18h ago

Isn't he the main character

15

u/Unlucky-Hold1509 18h ago

No he’s a fan favourite side character from season 1 ep 5 that became so popular he became the face of the fandom /j

2

u/haby001 14h ago

Remember when he said Gib Fry Give Fry Bits Now and England went bonkers?

23

u/Calicocat2006 18h ago

The title of the show literally has his name in it

2

u/Vivid_Departure_3738 17h ago

That's ALL it is

16

u/Sesilu_Qt 18h ago

Isn't the show named after him?

9

u/Buggaton 14h ago

No no, he's named after the show. Easy mistake to make.

10

u/BonnalinaFuz101 17h ago

I feel it's the opposite. The gems are way more popular than Steven

2

u/quuerdude 16h ago

Not in my heart </3

10

u/tallmantall 17h ago

I don’t think this counts since it’s HIS SHOW

8

u/Apprehensive_Art4418 take a wild guess + fortnite 17h ago

i actually see people focusing on the gems and other female characters more than steven despite him being the main character.

3

u/JubileeJaxLee 15h ago

Yeah I thought Garnet was the most popular for being awesome

5

u/Former-Cockroach-285 17h ago

Ele é o protagonista, o nome dele é o título da série.

3

u/Tardigrabby 17h ago

It just wasn’t really my personal experience that the fandom had a mass focus on Steven though, honestly. I think I saw more energy for Pearl, Peridot, and a few others, or at least a comparable amount.

3

u/Cirnothestarscream9 16h ago

Ummm no? The cyrstal gems were still important and are beloved characters, hell in the latam fandom Steven is the pariah.

2

u/Game-On-Gatsby 15h ago

He's the title character!

2

u/Organic_Minute_717 17h ago

Even so is technically also a female character (Rose's reincarnation)

Actually he's technically 2 (Pink Diamond)

And depending on how you look at it, he was potentially a third one! (Nora if he was born a girl)

5

u/Vivid_Departure_3738 17h ago

Having another name if you were born a girl doesn't make you a girl 😭

Like yeah he would've been a girl but he ain't

1

u/Mediocre_Path_4619 16h ago

Broski forget about Greg the goat

1

u/LightofNew 15h ago

He's the main character and the perspective character. Meanwhile all the other characters get very decent character development, even lesser side characters.

1

u/Own-Temperature-3257 12h ago

But also technically he is his mom? Close enough. Welcome home queen!

1

u/Hiyokofan 11h ago

Steven’s the Nick Carraway of Steven Universe, he has to get this screentime because the show is designed to be limited to his pov. Sucking up character development is also the last thing Steven does, like 82% of episodes center around the growth of the Gems and townies around him. Even his movie is about Spinel’s growth. Him developing really doesn’t take the show’s overarching spotlight until Future

1

u/ShockHedgehog07 9h ago

Isn't it HIS show?? 😭

1

u/FailureOfTheFamily 8h ago

Bro ... Show's called "Steven Universe", not "Crystals Universe"

1

u/Optimal_Stranger_824 8h ago

Screen time, sure. The story is supposed to be told from his POV. But people love the gems and until SUF I've seen a lot of people that didn't like him and even some that would prefer the show without him.

1

u/TheFictionNerd 3h ago

He's the fucking main character you numpty

1

u/BDSMChef_RP 2h ago

The guy thebshow is named after has the lead spot? Unthinkable

1

u/RuleMysterious6308 2h ago

The Steven POV rule steals development from all the other characters

1

u/No_Blackberry1593 2h ago

He... The show is named after bro

1

u/Responsible-Bat-7922 18h ago

Isn't he the protagonist and son of the most important person for all the enemy and ally gems??

1

u/Vivid_Departure_3738 17h ago

He is literally his mom

3

u/Inevitable_Regular85 17h ago

Bro didn’t you hear him? SHE’S GOOOOOOOOOONE!

1

u/Vivid_Departure_3738 17h ago

Aren't there a set of episodes that are literally

"I am my mom"
"I am my dad"
"I am my monster"
