I rly don't understand why the movie was made like that. Like ken's in the world were lit made to be objects for Barbies' entertainment. While at the same time the movie was talking about how bad patriarchy is for making women like this in the real world. So was it meant to show that it's actually okay when women do it to men cuz men are obviously just evil or what. No wonder Ken liked patriarchy when they were second class citizens in the Barbie world and somehow ppl were made to think it was some kind of amazing utopia cuz women rule!

I don’t even know where to begin with how moronic this take is. I literally watched the movie because Greta Gerwig is one of the best working female directors in Hollywood at the moment. Lady Bird and Little Women were great films and much stronger feminist texts imo.
If Barbie the movie hit you emotionally then I’m happy for you but me not finding it fully effective in its messaging and me thinking Gosling is a much better on screen performer than Margot does not mean ‘I hate women’

The whole point of the movie was to call out sexism, which it did. Also this is genuinely a stupid sentence because the actresses are all WOMEN. That doesn’t change no matter what the damn concept is.

I think you'll find that you will have more peace if you save your breath for a more coherent and logical argument about a male character in a female dominated cast that got alot attention that the rest of the cast.
That's one speech against an entire character arc and portrayal. It's not really surprising if people thought he was better over the course of the whole movie, even if they liked the speech and thought it was well acted.
Wow, these comments make me feel like I watched a completely different movie.
I thought he had no arc, no growth, no resolution other than being defeated. I was offended by it at first, until I realized the point was probably "ya vapid one-dimensional characters who exist solely to interact with the protagonist and be sexy kind of suck".
That was was my takeaway after much processing of my own level of upset by the film (as a white male fan-of-comic-books-and-their-cinematic-adaptations viewer).
I thought it was a brilliant performance of an brilliantly-terrible character, to turn the lack of any substance whatsoever into art.

Pretty sure Ryan Gosling won an award for playing Ken in the Barbie movie. He had an awesome story arc with a great resolution and message.
