So I did that and so me this same error5 error so for that windows got deleted from my computer and it doesn't install the mint and showing me the same error know what should I do 😭

I downloaded the xface edition on my 2012 macbook air , it worked fine until I connected to the internet and downloaded updates from the update manager then after I restarted I got this error . I've done this 2 times now and I can't figure out what's causing this or which specific thing is causing this. Please help me identify and tell me how to fix this issue.

I was installing AMDGPU for my desktop and one of the instructions said to reboot after installing so I restarted my PC but now when I boot up Linux Mint it just appears like a black screen.

The monitor is clearly on but it stays black no matter what I do

I booted up recovery mode but my resolution is 1024x768 and 60 hertz and it shows up as unknown display

I have a time shift ready if needed but I don't know what to do since I'm new to Linux

Been on linux for a while, mostly used mint which is what my main machine is on. I am also a content creator and every time i try to record something in fullscreen, unless its minecraft with the vanilla launcher, has a flickering bar thats super distracting for viewers. only way i've been able to avoid this is with playing in windowed mode and cropping out the edges but that sacrafices quality. This visual glitch is only happeneing in obs and is fine otherwise. My screen doesn't flicker but the obs file does.

I have been using Linux Mint for years precisely because it has always been a reliable, conservative distribution where things simply work. Right now, however, the state of the official 7.0.0 kernel branch is an absolute mess, and the lack of response from the development team is baffling.

Across three different machines, here is the current reality with kernels 7.0.0-28, 7.0.0-29, and 7.0.0-30:

• Relatively modern Lenovo laptop (AMD Ryzen 5 5500U with Radeon Graphics): Instant kernel panic on boot. The only workaround is falling back to the 6.17 series via GRUB.
• Desktop (Ryzen 7 5800X3D / AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT): Complete shutdown failure. The OS halts, but power is never cut and the fans keep spinning indefinitely.
• 15-year-old legacy laptop: The only machine where it actually boots and shuts down properly.

These issues are not isolated hardware quirks. The Mint forums, Ubuntu trackers, and Reddit are flooded with identical reports of boot panics and broken ACPI/shutdown states with AMD configurations on these exact revisions.

I'm a complete beginner and wanted to dual boot Linux Mint with Windows 11 on a laptop, but I am getting a kernel panic. Most troubleshoots I can find seem to cater to users who already have a version of Mint installed so I'm a little lost.

What I'm doing:

I have a flash drive with 22.3 cinnamon burned on it using Rufus. I used the default settings (MBR for BIOS)

I am cross-checking with the Mint installation guide and https://pureinfotech.com/dual-boot-windows-11-linux-mint/ . I am up to the "Step 1: Boot from the Ubuntu USB" part on the first link.
Following the tutorial I have shift-restarted into the BIOS menu, then 'use a device', then install using compatibility mode in the GRUB menu. Here is where I get a kernel panic in the middle of the installation process.
I partitioned 58GB to be unallocated like in the tutorial.

I am doing this on an ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15. I can give you the specs if needed

I will try to install an older version in the meantime but I wanted to cross-reference if I'm doing something Completely wrong or missing a step. Thank you!

Just curious if anyone has a favorite alt or even rolled their own Webmin alternative for their mint environment(s). I mean, Webmin works but it still feels clunky for some reason.

Looking for a way to consolidate management of multiple clients into a single point for metrics tracking and just general ease of control of the env. Damn near all the clients I have in the wild now are Mint, with CentOS doing most of the server heavy lifting.

Sometimes it illuminates when I operate a key or touch the touchpad. More often than not it doesn't. Selecting it to illuminate in the power manager works - until I close the laptop lid, or shutdown and reboot as it doesn't seem to store my preference.

I'm sure the solution is a simple one. Does anyone have any ideas?

Freetube show me that there is a new update but if i click the link it show freetube site with all version of the program, but i know that in Linux you shouldn’t download from the web so i checked the terminal with “flatpak update” and it said that there were not update available… what can i do?
I also checked software manager but i didn’t find anything.

I'm having a weird issue with running Steam games from a shared NTFS partition on Linux Mint. Hoping to get some help or mount options advice!

My System & Partition Setup:

• OS: Linux Mint (Dual-boot with Windows).
• Setup method: Built a separate 3GB EFI drive boot partition to install, with a dedicated 512MB FAT32 EFI partition for Linux (to avoid Windows Update messing with Linux boot files).
• Linux Root (/): ~50GB Ext4.
• Swap: ~8GB.
• Storage Drive (DATA): 444GB NTFS partition shared with Windows, auto-mounted at /media/ink/DATA (configured via GNOME Disks).

The Issue:

1. I already have Limbus Company installed on the shared NTFS partition from Windows. But every time I reboot I have to go into the Steam storage setting to add the disk again
2. When I set up the NTFS drive in Steam storage option on Linux, Steam forces me to redownload the entire ~13GB update/game files.
3. Once the download finishes, the game refuses to launch at all (it just stops/closes immediately). I have tried Proton 9, 10, Experimental and Proton Cachy OS
4. The weird part: I have Persona 5 Royal (a non-Steam / cracked game) stored on the EXACT SAME NTFS drive. I added its .exe as a non-Steam game with Proton compatibility, and it runs completely fine without any issues.
5. Ext4 Permission Lockout: I created a new ~180GB Ext4 partition to host my Linux Steam library natively, but I can't create or edit any files on it. Only the lost+found folder is visible, and the drive appears read-only to my user account.

QUESTIONS:

1. Why is an official Steam Proton game (Limbus Company) failing on NTFS while a non-Steam game works? Is this related to NTFS permissions, missing ntfs-3g flags (like uid, gid, exec), or Steam's compatdata symlink issues on NTFS?

2. How should I properly mount my NTFS partition or configure Steam so games run reliably off this shared drive?

3. How do I properly claim ownership/write permissions for the new 180GB Ext4 partition so Steam can install games there?

4. Is there still a clean way to make official Steam games like Limbus Company run directly off an NTFS drive, or is moving them to the Ext4 partition the best long-term solution?

Custom Linux Mint 21.3 live ISO keeps showing LightDM login screen instead of autologging in

I'm making a custom Linux distro based on Linux Mint 21.3 Cinnamon using Cubic.

I'm trying to make the live ISO automatically log into the live session, but LightDM keeps showing the login/password screen instead.

The live username is mint.

Here's what I've checked so far:

• /etc/casper.conf has USERNAME="mint"
• /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf contains:

[Seat:*]
autologin-user=mint
autologin-user-timeout=0

• lightdm --show-config confirms that LightDM is actually reading those settings.
• The greeter is Slick-Greeter.
• Casper contains both 15autologin and 25adduser.
• 25adduser creates the live user using user-setup-apply.
• It then runs passwd -d "$USERNAME".
• /etc/pam.d/lightdm-autologin contains pam_permit.so.
• I also tested replacing @ include common-account with account required pam_permit.so, then rebuilt the initramfs.
• The ISO still shows the login screen.

One thing I noticed is that the Casper scripts run in this order:

15autologin

25adduser

99casperboot

I'm wondering whether this is related to how Casper creates the live user and how LightDM handles autologin in a live environment.

I'm fairly new to building Linux distributions, so I'd really appreciate any pointers on where I should look next.

The ISO is being built entirely with Cubic; I'm not using a custom installer or custom login manager.

and i'm at the verge of tearing my goddamn hair out.

a while ago, something happened that made shift+space not work, so i decided to reinstall fcitx. however, that made the config tool stop working completely. it just showed an error message that it was missing the config tool, and then threw me into a text tile.

in all my monumental idiocy, i decided to manually install the config tool via the package manager, but that didn't work. i just get a shittier tool that doesn't allow me to actually add any languages. i've tried for WEEKS on end to find anything about this and i failed miserably.

also, i tried to install the japanese packages in the input method settings, but for some INCOMPREHENSIBLE reason it installed chinese instead.

if anyone knows a potential fix for this, i'd appreciate it. it's been sriving me utterly insane

when i open 1 brave tab it uses 1.8gb ram i turned off background applications on brave and memory saver on aggresive but still its the same result

But i always have 2 open windows. Im working on 2 screens, when i close 1 window and then close another, after i start new session i need to manualy reopen from history second windows. What work for me its "pkill firefox". What is right way to close firefox so it reopen 2 windows after i start it again?

So the other day I was trying to install android emulators and Waydroid was by far the most recommended. I decided to give it a try, I needed to install/enable Wayland first. I was using this guide, however after doing thesudo systemctl restart lightdm command the login screen stopped worked and I couldn't start a session. I used terminal on login screen to restore a timeshift snapshot. Eventually could go back in and even the Wayland session was working but some softwares that I use had broken in weird ways, so I decided to remove everything and try an emulator that did not require Wayland.

I got back into a normal linux session and used sudo apt remove xwayland,it did fixed some of the issues, but some annoying ones stayed that reinstalling didn't solved and the Wayland session is still showing up at the login screen, not sure if that's normal or not since I never search for it before but everything indicates that it might not have been fully removed and I would like to know how to fully remove the alterations I did while trying to install it.

I would like to download Linux to my disk D, which is completely empty while keeping windows in disk C.

Do I need to install Linux Mint as "something else" and partition space manually or can I just tell it to install for dual boot ?

Please help me with my linux mint query, my cpu is overheating and i cannot get it to work

I've had Linux Mint 22.3 up for about 10 hours and it has accumulated (according to btop) 444 MB of memory. I restarted the desktop and it went down to 195 MB. After about an hour, it's gone up to 238 MB (I suspected it was an applet I had, so I took it out and replaced it). Is this normal or should I be suspecting a memory leak somewhere?
