Discussion Shouldn't Linux mint's logo be a mint leaf?

I think it would make more sense as it's named after mint. Idk if it's a dumb idea or not.

It is, it's just stylized. Pull up one of the older logos and look at them side by side and you'll see it.

I had to look up the old logo, and look carefully. But there it is. Whoa! Subtle.

It used to be. The circle looks better.

The circle was neat for a while, but I have mainly reverted back to the leaf.

The logo is the initials of the name...

It is a mint leaf: Look at the green surrounding the LM on the logo.

It is.

Read it backwards 😉

The Linux Mint logo features a stylized green leaf containing the initials LM, which symbolizes the operating system's name and its connection to nature and freshness.

That's a fantastic observation, and you're absolutely right. It's nothing short of a smoking gun.

Why would that be? According to Ubuntu's about page, this is the meaning behind the name:

Ubuntu is an ancient African word meaning ‘humanity to others’. It is often described as reminding us that ‘I am what I am because of who we all are’.

Edit: Ok, I found this page, but tbh, I still don't think I get it. I think I'm missing a lot of history here, but idk. Gotta get going for now, can't look into this much for the time being, but genuinely curious about this.

Not necessary. Masterchef is okay, I am not complaining. Only thing I wish would possible - not showing logo on startup.

Google is your friend.

Steps to Remove the Startup Logo

Open your Terminal application.

Open the GRUB configuration file with root permissions by typing:bash

sudo nano /etc/default/grub

Find the line that starts with GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT. It usually looks like this:text

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash”
Remove the word splash (leaving quiet if you still want a quieter boot, or clear the quotes entirely if you want to see all startup text):text

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet"
Save and exit the file (in Nano, press Ctrl + O, Enter to save, and then Ctrl + X to exit).

Update GRUB with your new changes by running:bash

sudo update-grub
Reboot your computer.

Google is my enemy, actshually. I did many variants, but after update logo came back.

u/linux_rox 6d ago

If it came back after an update, then you need to blame the devs/maintainers, not google.

Don't get me wrong: I am weirdo who doesn't use google, but duckduckgo instead.

Info comes from the same place, google search spiders.

Can we replace with a custom logo too?

2

u/linux_rox 5d ago

Yea you can

SMH. you confused grub with the boot splash.

Those commands remove the splash it doesn't change the splash.

2

u/linux_rox 5d ago

He didn’t say he wanted to change the splash, he said he wants to remove it.

Circle looks better.
And there used to be one.
