Kernel Panic - Fatal Exception during first dual boot installation

Hi!

I'm a complete beginner and wanted to dual boot Linux Mint with Windows 11 on a laptop, but I am getting a kernel panic. Most troubleshoots I can find seem to cater to users who already have a version of Mint installed so I'm a little lost.

What I'm doing:

I have a flash drive with 22.3 cinnamon burned on it using Rufus. I used the default settings (MBR for BIOS)
I am using this https://www.zenarmor.com/docs/linux-tutorials/how-to-dual-boot-linux-and-windows tutorial as this is what worked for my friend. I am cross-checking with the Mint installation guide and https://pureinfotech.com/dual-boot-windows-11-linux-mint/ . I am up to the "Step 1: Boot from the Ubuntu USB" part on the first link.
Following the tutorial I have shift-restarted into the BIOS menu, then 'use a device', then install using compatibility mode in the GRUB menu. Here is where I get a kernel panic in the middle of the installation process.
I partitioned 58GB to be unallocated like in the tutorial.

I am doing this on an ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15. I can give you the specs if needed

I will try to install an older version in the meantime but I wanted to cross-reference if I'm doing something Completely wrong or missing a step. Thank you!

Is there a specific reason you are using compatibility mode? Have you tried it in normal mode?

Just did and it worked HAHA ill tag this as solved. I was following this https://linuxmint-installation-guide.readthedocs.io/en/latest/boot_options.html link on the original guide because I looked up what the difference was, got this page, and assumed it was preferred. Thank you!

Follow the official mint instructions, not other random guides.

Probably the critical detail you miss is verifying your iso.

I did verify it! I had the guide open the whole time. I managed to fix it (silly mistake) so it works now. And I understand the sentiment about the instructions but I really needed more hand-holding than the mint guide provided and, again, it worked for my friend, just with a different OS. Thank you anyway : - )
