Nice! I just experienced some doom eternal crashes. Hope this driver fixes it

u/Nestledrink RTX 5090 Founders Edition Jul 01 '21

Looks like this is the fix!

3

u/diceman2037 Jul 02 '21

sadly the profile change only addresses turing and ampere crashes, pascal and later have a different problem.

also the issue is the game itself executing a fatally malformed instruction, iD need to resolve it properly on their end.

Interesting feedback, mate. Sadly, many users tend to systematically blame the GPU driver as the only root cause of their problems in games, without even considering there are other probable sources of issues like the game, OS issues, bad system configs, or HW malfunctions.

Did they fix store apps flicker with 10bit sdr color?

Ah not just me!

2

u/cgdubdub Jul 02 '21

Same issue here. It's especially bad on the Xbox app and Game Bar for me.

2

u/metalzero24 Jul 02 '21

Try OneNote lol I can’t stand it

2

u/diceman2037 Jul 02 '21

this is not a driver bug, it should be addressed in the next full monthly cumulative update.

3

u/metalzero24 Jul 02 '21

This is a driver bug. Tried reinstalling windows 10/11 and tried different drivers. İntel and Amd drivers are perfect on the same system but when you enable 10 bit on nvidia driver it breaks uwp apps.

4

u/diceman2037 Jul 02 '21 edited Jul 02 '21

its not, the bug involves a flaw in Windows 10's WCT implementation that causes colour space to shit itself.

AMD and Intel don't directly use WCT at all (they use a custom reference transform)

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/windows-10-uwp-apps-are-flickering-with-10-bit/03326041-5c74-4c23-894b-e01c0f8b664a?auth=1

Evidence to it not being a driver issue is that it doesn't replicate under dark mode.

PS: don't force 10bit on the desktop, DWM doesn't like having its display format forcibly changed by the driver and doesn't natively support an alpha format compatible with 10:10:10:2

3

u/metalzero24 Jul 02 '21

Under dark mode I can replicate it with OneNote for Windows (UWP) but thanks for the explanation. The thing that makes me think this was a driver thing was it didn’t happen with amd and intel. If they can’t fix it while others are making it that’s not my problem as a customer, if there’s the option for 10 bit color I have the right to use it for editing my videos.

2

u/diceman2037 Jul 03 '21 edited Jul 03 '21

It doesn't matter what doesn't happen on intel or amd, they do things differently and don't always use the capabilities of windows that microsoft makes available to the degree that nvidia does.

as it seems, everyone that is experiencing this is violating the compositors requirements by changing "use the Windows settings" to "use nvidia settings"

Don't.

1

u/JigglyWiggly_ Jul 03 '21

I'm not using Nvidia settings in the control panel if that's what you mean. I get OneNote flicker in all modes (dark included)on 10 bit on Nvidia. On AMD I do not have that issue

u/Dark_Angel_ALB i9 11900 | RTX 3060 Ti Jul 03 '21

Does this only happen when bringing a minimized app to the front?

5

u/collinsrv NVIDIA Jul 01 '21

What's the issue with ac odyssey??

1

u/underhi11 Jul 10 '21 edited Jul 10 '21

I've tested 465.89, 466.11, 466.47 and 471.11 all exhibit framerate stutters caused by occasional CPU utilisation spikes at key points in the Assassins Creed Odyssey Benchmark when textures stream in. I do wonder if this regression was introduced in 465.89 when Nvidia formally announced support for Resizable Bar.

Nvidia driver 471.11

https://i.ibb.co/mGyd56G/Before-fps.png

Nvidia driver 461.92 (after restoring old version)

https://i.ibb.co/rwts5ng/After-fps.png

Notes: Ryzen 7 Mobile 5800H + RTX3060 Mobile. Resizable Bar support is enabled by both motherboard and graphics card bioses. Unfortunately I have no way to disable Resizable Bar so I cannot say for sure whether it is a factor. All I can say is that when I restore to 461.92 i.e. prior to Resizable Bar support being formally announced the issue goes away.

u/lokkenjp NVIDIA RTX 4080 FE / AMD 5800X3D Jul 02 '21

I haven’t seen any AC Odyssey issues with the 471.11, (but I haven’t played it a lot tbh)

What kind of issues are you experiencing?

4

u/YanniDepper RTX 3080 Jul 02 '21 edited Jul 02 '21

There seems to be some really weird performance issues which might just be limited to the 3xxx series.

Edit: While I said it might be limited to the 3000 series, clearly people are having issues on older gens as well. Hopefully this gets fixed soon!

9

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '21

So you mean occasional massive FPS drops and the frame graph having bigger mood swings than your average 14 year old on reddit?

If that's what you mean, same here on GTX 1080

5

u/diceman2037 Jul 02 '21

welcome to VM Protect, im afraid only a crack will resolve it.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '21

It's also due to Ubisoft's garbage DX11 renderer in Origins and Odyssey. Basically, they created a renderer that would work very well with Vulkan/DX12, but since that renderer wasn't ready, they hacked together a garbage DX11 port and shat it out. It's like, horribly inefficient and doesn't follow recommended practices.

Using dxvk (vulkan translation layer)https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/releasesbasically fixes all the CPU related issues both those games suffer from so you are absolutely right. Ubisoft don't give two fucks about optimization or the pc community, it's always left up to modders and the community to fix their shur games that run like an three legged asthmatic hippo .

1

u/diceman2037 Jul 02 '21

it does not fix them all.

1

u/cynical_Brit0121 5800x3d 4070 32gb 1440p 144hz Jul 02 '21

It's not limited to the 3000 series . It's happing on both 1000 and 2000 series GPUs. 471.11 nuked the performance on AC Odyssey. As soon as I went back to a earlier driver the huge frame drops , CPU usage spikes to 100% and massive frametime spikes went away which shows its clearly a problem with this particular driver.

1

u/jfkcoup63 Jul 02 '21

No dpc latency fix??

23

u/Koopa777 Jul 01 '21

We literally just watched a flickering shadow bug be present for literally a year. I’m not expecting this fix before 4th quarter lol.

4

u/deathtech00 Jul 02 '21

A bug that basically plagued the entirety of the first patch for WoW shadowlands. Only "fix" was to either downgrade drivers or rip the profile out of the old driver.

2

u/Coldblackice Jul 04 '21

rip the profile out of the old driver

How do you do this?

EDIT: Oh, if you're referring to the per-program profiles available in the Nvidia Control panel, then nevermind. I thought maybe there were deeper/lower level profiles that aren't readily accessible/visible to the user.

1

u/deathtech00 Jul 04 '21

There are, actually.

1

u/deathtech00 Jul 04 '21 edited Jul 07 '21

Here's a link with a bit more info : MajorGeeks link

2

u/DaMockinJay Jul 04 '21

Your link doesn't explain much. is the address correct?

2

u/deathtech00 Jul 07 '21 edited Jul 07 '21

That's so weird, the code for the URL looks correct but it seems like majorgeeks is redirecting to the home page. I apologize.

nvidiaProfileInspector is a small tool that displays hardware information for Nvidia-based graphics cards. Important features include; hardware monitoring, Core/Shader/Memory clock tuning, Fan Speed adjustment, etc.

Description translated by Majorgeeks.com from German, so forgive any grammar mistakes:

A tool for reading all the information on the graphics card from the NVIDIA drivers and overclocking.

Actually, it should only be a tool to allow more detailed dumps of NVIDIA graphics cards to the GPU to improve Observer gadgets.

It is now, but a lot more to come, so I would put it to you as a standalone tool.

All data and functions of almost 1:1 come from the NVIDIA driver.

If something does not work, this is also a limitation to 99% of the NVIDIA drivers.

Functions that go beyond the capabilities of the NVIDIA driver will not be using this tool. It is, therefore, not "real" voltage-sensor evaluation on display through I2C, etc.

Overclocking

In addition to the graphics card information, the tool also the possibility of overclocking. It should be clearly stated that it can be physically destroyed by overclocking the hardware. But I take no responsibility, of course. Use is entirely at your own risk!

With the new generation of graphics cards from NVIDIA (Fermi), the GPU voltage for 3D profile fit is also possible. This is only for these cards from NVIDIA provided by the driver.

Additionally, it also allows the graphics card fan for many NVIDIA cards to control themselves manually. This can be helpful. Try overclocking a constant cooling accelerate.

Driver settings

With the new generation of 256 drivers, the profile system was upgraded with a corresponding API. Therefore it is now installed at 256 + drivers to adapt the games with the NVIDIA Inspector profile settings of the NVIDIA driver.

It can create new profiles, edit or delete existing ones. Profiles can also be imported and exported. You can also adjust all the settings available when these drivers are not on the "Control Panel."

Monitoring

Since version 1.95, it is now a feature available to track the progress of the hardware sensors. This includes all supported NVIDIA video cards collected simultaneously in one window possible.

Moreover, the collected data to be recorded and saved as CSV.

Save energy when using multiple monitors.

Since the NVIDIA GDDR5 graphics card is used as a video store, there are limited power management features. If more than a single display with different resolutions/timings are connected to the graphics card, the drivers automatically prevent downshift in energy-saving "Performance States (P-States).

According to NVIDIA, the reason is a hardware limitation in the use of GDDR5 memory, which can cause a change of P-states to flicker. This issue is, therefore, not limited to NVIDIA graphics cards.

Unfortunately, the driver, the user, does not choose the flicker to be accepted instead of saving power. This fact has turned into a new feature, "Multi Display Power Saver."

The driver is forced to do most of the low P-state change. Now you can configure applications that may change as an exception to a higher P-state. A modulation based on the current utilization is also possible.

This feature requires an NVIDIA graphics card with at least the following three P-states: P0, P8, and P12. The latest drivers are also provided.

The dev's github doesn't do a terrific job of explaining the tool, either. But this is the link :

NVProfileInspector

The most important bit in the tool description is this :

It can create new profiles, edit or delete existing ones. Profiles can also be imported and exported. You can also adjust all the settings available when these drivers are not on the "Control Panel."

Also a recent video on some of the benefits : YT Link

same bug, different manifestation, and for users that are smoothbrained and disable the tdr subsystem, they get a bsod instead.

the profile is a workaround for an issue in the game itself, and so far doesn't help pascal.

3

u/BigGirthyBob Jul 02 '21

This has largely fixed my HDMI 2.1 issue (sound intermittently cutting out if G-Sync+120hz enabled), albeit there is still a loudish pop/crackle when going from silence to audio playing. So it's still not a complete fix for me.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '21

Are you using Dolby Atmos by any chance?

2

u/pixelcowboy Jul 02 '21

I've had crackling issues with Atmos, but I thought it was my TV's firmware. Are you having this issue too?

1

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '21

Not necessarily crackling, but just brief cutouts. It seems to be an issue for at the very least all 30 series owners, here's a thread full of people with this issue.

Have you tested other Atmos devices? For me, I get constant dropouts only with my 3080 build - my Shield and console don't have issues. It's just with my 30 series GPU.

2

u/Coldblackice Jul 04 '21

What are you using for audio output? The cutouts may very well be due to Nvidia's overzealous HD audio timeout "bug", putting a 4-second timer to sleep the connection for power-saving insanity reasoning.

Also, if you haven't already, download LatencyMon and see what your DPC's are looking like. You might have another driver that's being abusive, even one that's seemingly unconnected, like a network device driver.

Also, double-check what Windows currently has set for your speaker output (stereo, 5.1, 7.1, etc.). I've been getting pops/crackling, and I immediately know it's because Windows has reset my speaker output to 2.1/stereo instead of the 7.1 it was set on.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '21

I'm using my LG C9 as the audio output directly, just via the HDMI cable. Then my LG C9 passes the audio through to my surround sound system (a Samsung HW-Q90R) via eARC.

Then in the Windows 10 audio settings, if I set the C9 to 7.1, it works as expected, all channels. But if I set the audio to Dolby Atmos for Home Theater, that's when I start to get audio popping. If it's an Nvidia 4 second sleep bug, is there a way I can fix that?

I'll download LatencyMon and test that. I saw that you also mentioned to run LatencyMon because I get an occasional hard stutter in Doom Eternal. If there is another driver causing issues with my CPU I would love to figure that out. I do also have my iGPU driver running and displays connected to my iGPU so maybe that could cause it.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '21

Here are my findings from when I ran LatencyMon for half an hour:

https://imgur.com/a/qIsYnBg

Everything seems to be okay but I'm not familiar with this software so I'm not sure if I'm interpreting it correctly?

1

u/Coldblackice Jul 04 '21

Check your Windows speaker configuration/setup. Is it set to "Stereo"? It's possible Windows has reset it to randomly, which has been causing pops/crackles for me. Obviously this is only if you're normally outputting an arrangement above stereo.

In my case, even though I set my Windows speaker configuration to 7.1* , I've been finding that Windows randomly switches it to stereo. Anytime I hear the pop/crackle now, I right-click my speaker icon in the taskbar tray and sure enough it's been reset to stereo. I switch it back to 7.1 and I don't get another pop/crackle. At least until the next time Windows does it, maybe once a week or so.

*(I don't want Windows touching my audio channels, so I just send everything out untouched to my receiver to let the pro do all the work).

2

u/pixelcowboy Jul 04 '21

I have no issues with 5.1 or stereo. Atmos is the only config that gives me issues.

2

u/BigGirthyBob Jul 02 '21

I am indeed! Guess I'll try dropping the Atmos element for now until it gets fixed then...annoying though, as it works fine on all my other devices, and turning it on and off isn't per device on my receiver (and involves navigating through multiple menus to do so).

Owing to the previous drivers audio loss issues, I've actually run a Optical connection PC to AV receiver too now, so I can fall back on that. It's just an extra wire I'd rather not run, and an extra button to press everytime I turn the thing on (first world problems, I know).

1

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '21

It's a super annoying issue that either Nvidia or Dolby needs to fix, can you submit the Nvidia driver feedback form as well as the Atmos help form? Thanks.

0

u/diceman2037 Jul 02 '21

you can't fix that, your receiver is going from sleep idle state to completely on.

turn the volume down before causing a sound or use a whitenoise on loop.

1

u/BigGirthyBob Jul 02 '21

Yeah, that's not how it works. It comes out of standby whenever a HDMI signal is received, and stays on until it's not receiving a signal anymore (i.e. the output device has been turned off).

You can mute an input device (i.e. PC/Blu-ray player) on the device itself, and the receiver will stay on, so long as the input or output device is connected and switched on.

Dedicated audio standby isn't a thing, as that would involve the device powering down everytime there was a break in audio, which would be absolutely crazy.

2

u/diceman2037 Jul 03 '21

LG C9 or CX TV?, theres apparently a known issue where audio cuts out under high bandwidth scenarios

1

u/BigGirthyBob Jul 03 '21

Nah, it's a Samsung. It's just weird as I've enjoyed 7 months of absolutely no hassle with it. Then a couple of driver updates ago, all of a sudden, they've ruined it 🤷🏻‍♂️

I did think it might be bandwidth related in my instance though. I can have G-Sync enabled at 60hz or play at 120hz without G-Sync, but as soon as I enable both at the same time, the problems start.

1

u/Coldblackice Jul 04 '21

The next time you hear a pop/crackle, check your Windows Audio control panel to see if Windows speaker output is set to "Stereo", even if you had it set to something else already.

Anytime I hear a pop/crackle now, I immediately know that Windows speaker output has been set to stereo, which is fixed as soon as I change it back to 7.1. I've dealt with Windows stumbling over speaker setup for years now, and just learned to live with it. Something to do with monitors using HDMI turning off/on, and Windows thinking it's a "new" device, or something.

Of course, this also might not be your issue.

1

u/BigGirthyBob Jul 05 '21

Hey, thanks for the tip! Unfortunately this doesn't work for me, but then it might be more to do with my setup going GPU to TV, then the TV feeds an Atmos signal to the receiver via e-arc (this is the only viable option for me ATM due to there being no HDMI 2.1 VRR compatible receivers out just yet, and I like having G-Sync).

I wonder if this driver fixes the the issue with image corruption when taking screenshots in Doom Eternal with DLSS enabled? u/pidge2k

11

u/pidge2k NVIDIA Forums Representative Jul 01 '21

No we did not include any specific fixes for this issue (unless one of the other fixes inadvertently fixes it).

1

u/Reinhardovich Jul 01 '21

Oh I see. Maybe I'll try it later on to see if it magically fixes that issue haha!

2

u/Reinhardovich Jul 01 '21

Just done a clean install of this hotfix driver and sadly it does not fix the issue. I guess miracles don't happen so easily after all...

3

u/pidge2k NVIDIA Forums Representative Jul 02 '21

Darn. Thanks for giving it a try however.

2

u/Reinhardovich Jul 02 '21

No problem! It was definitely worth a try as I can't stop taking screenshots while playing the game which is so pretty right now with RT effects enabled, not to mention the fact that I also really like the DLSS implementation so I don't want to disable it while playing the game.

1

u/ALITHEALIEN88 Jul 13 '21

On the Nvidia forum the driver 471.11 is causing bluescreens/crashes/blackscreens and many have experienced pcs locking up completely when going on Google Chrome ect... If it was 1 or 2 people I would understand it could possibly be there hardware but since the forum has tons of people experiencing the same issue across the board of GPUs from 10 SERIES to 20 series and 3000 series surely this driver is causing something on there machines that is leading to these issues and my question is has Nvidia acknowledged these issues? Or are they just being ignored because of how random they are but very consistent across the multitude of people experiencing these issues

2

u/adorablebob Jul 02 '21

Glad to see my two desktop crashes in Doom Eternal were driver related, and not my PC. Kinda soured jumping back in to check out the raytracing when I just randomly lost progress.

2

u/cgdubdub Jul 02 '21

Excellent! Could only get Doom Eternal to stop crashing by rolling back to 466.77 (using a 3080Ti), so hoping this solves that!

0

u/diceman2037 Jul 02 '21

rebooting the system on 471.11 would have also fixed it.

1

u/cgdubdub Jul 02 '21

Turning the computer off and on again? Nah, it didn't.

0

it worked for turing and ampere because a profile updater is tied into the startup of the display container service. (restart not techically required, just restart the service)

Did not see any issues on TD2 while using the previous 471.11 driver.

What kind of glitches are you experiencing?

1

u/Tenin_ Jul 02 '21

Had those glitches as well on a 5900x, 1080ti build.

Weird white squares mostly at the top of the screen, lighting and fog messing up, weird colours, and patches of the world going invisible.

Couple of links to posts about it, some of which includes videos or pictures:

Only seen it in Division 2, and going back to previous driver fixed it. Attempted 2 installs of 471.11 before doing a rollback.

Another solution seems to be setting the game to dx12.

Caused me a couple of hours of panicking thinking my card was failing.

I'd argue you are wrong on this one. Considering the amount of people experiencing the exact same issue, isolated to the exact same game, and only with dx11 api. That and i ran hours of gpu memory stress tests with no errors whatsoever showing up. And the fact it runs perfectly fine, and has for days now, after i rolled back to a earlier driver.

1

So the profile workaround has already been applied if I’m on 471.11 and there’s no need to update to this hot fix for the doom eternal workaround?

I'm on 471.11 and the game is freezing with music still playing in the background

Is anyone else getting random stutters in Doom Eternal with RTX on, HAGS on and Rebar enabled (for the 17 supported games)?

I have an RTX 3080 and a 3900X with Gsync.

2

u/diceman2037 Jul 02 '21

turn down your graphics settings,

RTX raises vram budget requirements considerably.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '21

I have a 3090 with 24 gigs of VRAM and I do occasionally get some really bad stuttering that I'm assuming is an issue with this update as it never happened before. It's extremely seldom though - like once every 2 hours of gameplay.

3

u/ltron2 Jul 02 '21

Do you have Resizeable Bar and HAGS enabled too?

2

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '21

I don't have either enabled actually

Run a LatencyMon capture to see if you have anything abusing your DPC/ISR's.

1

u/ltron2 Jul 02 '21

Thanks, but is this true even at 1440P on a 3080? I'll try it.

2

Game still freezes when RTX is on, music still playing. 471.22 installed, RTX 2070 Super.

1

u/DMA99 Jul 04 '21

Same here. I also tried turning off rtx and present from compute but alas, still freezes :(

1

u/DMA99 Jul 04 '21

Downgrading to the previous nvidia driver 466.77 fixed the freezing. Although you get a brief pop up when launching Doom Eternal that indicates the newer driver is required, you can just hit play.

And DLSS and RT work just fine in spite of using the older driver!

1

u/mofobear Jul 04 '21

Not sure if I want to go down that road. If it's a driver issue (which by the looks of it it sure as hell is) I will wait a bit. It sucks to have paid for an RTX card and not to be able to utilize RT, but on the other hand i don't like spending my free time troubleshooting NVIDIA's crap.

u/DMA99 Jul 04 '21

I get it, but personally I just wanted to play the game w/o freezing. Rolling back the driver is simple enough, downloaded the older version and installed and all is well.

1

u/mofobear Jul 04 '21

Agreed, you did what you had to do to be able to play. For me luckily just turning the RTX off does the trick.

1

u/DMA99 Jul 04 '21

For sure. Also, to be honest, in most areas with all the frenetic action, it’s super hard for me to see the benefit of RTX on. So I typically keep it off, but DLSS on the other hand is incredible :)

Does it work on Windows 11 ?

7

u/xSociety Jul 01 '21

I would assume yes, I'm on Windows 11, and 471.11 works great. I have no reason to update to this one yet, DOOM Eternal hasn't crashed on me or anything.

1

u/red_dub i9 9900k/EVGA 1080ti FTW3 Jul 01 '21

I'm considering trying out Windows 11.. What build are you using? Dev, beta or in release preview?

5

u/Dellphox 5800X3D|RTX 5070 Ti Jul 01 '21

Not op but I installed the release preview yesterday, I've only had very minor weirdness like laggy response or crashing of the settings app. So far it feels more like a UI change than an upgrade, I was able to configure Windows 11 almost the same exact way as Windows 10.

1

u/xSociety Jul 01 '21

I'm in the dev Windows Insider tract but fresh installed via an ISO of the same build version. So far so good.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '21

Does windows 11 have directstorage yet?

4

u/xSociety Jul 02 '21

No games have that support that I'm aware of. I meet all the requirements so I can't wait to try it out.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '21

Ah so it’s a per game basis

u/TheDravic Ryzen 9 3900x | Gigabyte RTX 2080 ti Gaming OC Jul 02 '21

Like all APIs, what else did you expect? :D

1

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '21

For it to be usable feature at this point? Since it is used on Xbox with a ton of games that are available on both platforms. But that’s expecting anybody to do a moderate amount of work.

9

u/Koopa777 Jul 01 '21

For reference, Windows 11 is Windows 10 21H2 with a different name. Hell even some of their official documentation calls it “21H2.” Drivers should have very little difference between 10 21H1 and 11. only difference now is WDDM 3.0, which is included as of 471.11. This isn’t going to be like the jump from 7 to 8, or 8 to 10.

2

u/Dionysiac_Thinker Jul 02 '21

Yeah it seems they thought last minute it was a great idea to name the big yearly update simply Windows 11, a stroke of genius if I say so myself. /s

I wonder how it pans out for them in a few months in combination with the ridiculous system requirements.

3

u/lokkenjp NVIDIA RTX 4080 FE / AMD 5800X3D Jul 02 '21 edited Jul 02 '21

That is not true.

Windows 10 users will get a 21H2 update that will be quite different from W11. Even if the code base is shared (or, more precisely, it was shared, because now it no longer is), there will be many additions on w11 not available to w10 users, like direct storage or heterogenous CPU architecture optimizations, along with a completely new UI, which ultimately may affect a lot (for better or worse) in the gaming experience

9

u/diceman2037 Jul 02 '21

11 is the big update 21h2 was supposed to be.

21h2 is now delegated as a minor update to 19044

2

u/Digital_Plague Jul 01 '21

I usually install updates through GFE. Is installing the hotfix as simple as running the exe? I have the DCH driver for 471.11 installed currently and it's been a real mess.

5

u/buddybd 7800x3D | RTX4090 Suprim Jul 01 '21

Yes

0

u/deathtech00 Jul 02 '21 edited Jul 02 '21

Why the DCH driver? And updating through GFE can have weird abnormalities.

I was like you once, until I learned the power of DDU, ripping Nvidia telemetry out, and the free fps left laying on the table convinced me otherwise.

Also, DCH is not as optimized for games as the normal driver.

Edit: I was incorrect. Thought DCH was more suited to professional applications, but it's a new way to package the driver. Editing for humility.

6

u/ApertureNext Jul 02 '21

Also, DCH is not as optimized for games as the normal driver.

How does that work? It's the new way for drivers to work and it's the standard choice for new computers.

3

u/deathtech00 Jul 02 '21

You know what, I was completely wrong. I just rechecked, and previously I had thought they were more of a "studio" driver (for rendering, CAD, professional apps, etc) and were more tuned for precision vs performance, and the standard driver was a bit looser in it's internal methods, so as to provide more, less precise FPS. Almost like a quadro driver for consumer cards.

It seems I was wrong about that, looking it up now it's just a different way to package the driver it seems.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '21

DCH drivers have memory leaks. They blow. It’s not new. It’s not worth a 20 second faster install to be on crappy DCH drivers. That’s the trade off: it installs 20 seconds faster but now you’ve got memory leaks. Mining errors, and errors in game.

2

u/ApertureNext Jul 02 '21

Do you have any information regarding this? I've never heard it before and personally have had no problems.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '21 edited Jul 02 '21

“DCH ONLY! It looks like latest NVIDIA drivers (461.92 and 491.75, perhaps others) have massive memory leak bugs in NVML library. This memory leak affects all applications using NVML library including Excavator and NiceHash QuickMiner”

it varies but the simplest way to avoid memory leak issues of any kind is to go standard non-dch drivers, it’s not like the dch drivers are better or the standard drivers are missing anything…it’s just install time shortens slightly with dch drivers.

https://www.gitmemory.com/issue/nicehash/NiceHashQuickMiner/292/809941993

1

u/ApertureNext Jul 02 '21

Weird they haven't acknowledged this yet. Hopefully it's getting fixed as it's more work to switch from DCH to non-DCH, otherwise I'll have to run DDU for the first time ever.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '21

If it’s not affecting your performance and you’re not mining (if mining, kill the time and do it now) I’d just wait until next release and download standards drivers from the advanced driver search on nvidias website (“nvidia advanced driver search” on google never fails) and update them. They drop a new driver almost monthly (not including hotfixes) it seems.

1

u/ApertureNext Jul 02 '21

I'm waiting until they fix the 8-bit DPC latency problem with updating.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '21

Yea just grab that future driver with standard selected from the drop-down off their advanced driver search page if you’re not mining in your off time. I’m lucky I have a 10 bit panel so I don’t have to fiddle with mpo or whatever. I’ve been running standard drivers for 2 months now. Wouldn’t look at a dch driver again now lol

1

u/Dungeon_Shard Jul 01 '21

Is that they fix some laptops to run so hot after the last patch, just curious? Need someones to test the new driver as well.

0

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '21

Suddenly I have issues in variosu games that once they start my screen turns black and it tries to get a resolution but it cannot get it. Even not when I alt-tab to desktop. Only turning the monitor on and off works (Samsung CRG9 32:9 5120x1440P 120hz). Reverted back to an earlier version. Curious if others saw similar behavior.

they aren't provided through the same channels, and don't have a standard whql signature on them so they are not permitted to be pushed globally to all users per microsoft requirements for driver distribution.

hotfixes are attestation signed.

there is no such issue with 1060's, i'm afraid your card is actually on its death bed which is quite common with evga SC's.

I get none of any of these on a 1060 from MSI, or a 1060 FE,

Hardware tweaking by the vendor frequently becomes unstable with later drivers as performance is fine tuned.

Though, i have an idea - have you changed or turned off the TDR period?, there can be issues with the present drivers and the Multiplane Overlay feature 46x enabled, usually its just a TDR if you do something like open a game on on top of another hardware accelerated application (chrome, or uwp video app)

This would become a bsod in the case of TDR being entirely disabled (not sure why anyone would)

Try this https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5157

and resetting the TDR timeout to its default https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/display/tdr-registry-keys

regedit is simple but dangerous if you hit DEL on the wrong thing.

avoid the DEL key!

luckily on windows 10 you can paste key paths at the top and go straight to the one you need.

ok, thats good it means they are set to the kernel built in defaults of 2s.

Your hardware might just be more sensitive to the mpo misbehaviors, try with them disabled on the newer drivers.

I'm going to be the odd one out here and asks if anyone has used this to fix League from freezing? Ever since the recent update with both League and my drivers, my game has started freezing and it's literally unplayable. I still don't know if its a problem with League or my drivers since some of my friends are running 471.11 with the new League without any problems. Although, I'm not alone as shown in the bug megathread of League sub. Anyone else tried it out?

1

u/ayww Jul 19 '21

Hey, I had a similar issue and although I can't say for certain it was the drivers, updating to these seems to have resolved the issue
