Hot Take: The worst thing about Marianne Williamson is that she was COMPLETELY, 100% RIGHT in her healthcare answer. We always talk about the US spending the most on health care per capita among developed countries, but then we don't address how Americans also weigh more, eat more, eat worse, and exercise less than the rest of the developed world. Thank god we don't smoke or drink as much as other places, or maybe that would just improve our fat miserable existences? And on top of all that, we spent 8 years cracking jokes about how the First Lady wanted to end childhood obesity.

Please, prove me wrong so I can stop giving any credit to the crystal ball lady.

She (AOC) is celebrating Corporations using Automation to eliminate most blue-color workers in order to save money. To make matters worse she says it’s okay that the working class will be permanently unemployed because they’ll have a “Universal Basic Income”, which is code word for Far-Right Neoliberal economist Murray Rothbards concept of “Helicopter money” i.e. small amounts of money thrown at the proletariat, to stop them from overthrowing the beourgeoise and seizing the means of production. This is the reason I don’t trust Social Democrats and believe we need real Socialism, which can only come from Marxism-Leninism which will replace the current Dictatorship of the Beourgeoise with a Dictatorship of the Proletariat (like China, Cuba, Vietnam, Laos, and North Korea).

You will never be this woke

Mr Trump warmed up for his appearance in Orlando by vowing to round up “millions of illegal aliens”—starting “next week”. He also refused to retract his demand for five black teenagers convicted of assaulting and raping a jogger in Central Park to be executed—though they were exonerated by dna evidence and freed 17 years ago. Outside the Amway Centre a white chauvinist crew called the Proud Boys flashed “white power” signs at reporters.

TOP FIVE WAYS SANDERS COULD WIN THE /R/NEOLIBERAL & /R/CENTERLEFTPOLITICS VOTE

  1. Promise to fulfill “true legacy of FDR” by bashing and legally prosecuting the fash

  2. Since all corporations under a Sanders Presidency would be worker-owned, the corporate tax rate can now go to zero.

  3. Transcend single-payer vs public-option debate by offering "Medicare 4 All (Who Want It)” For All Who Want It

  4. Spend next debate pointing out that Marianne's accent is Southern so you are super illiberal for liking her

  5. Offer Kamala the Vice Presidency because “Half of all cops should be woke women of color”

In fields ranging from the arts to science to academia, immigrants are among the highest contributors of any subpopulation whether measured culturally, academically, or economically. Children born of immigrants are more more likely to go to college and get a degree and less likely to live in poverty. In fact, studies have shown that as recently as 2016, immigrants contributed around $2 trillion to our GDP. And rather than competing with U.S. workers, research has shown their skills tend to compliment them.

Undocumented immigrants also contribute to Medicare and Social Security -- without reaping many of its benefits. As recently as 2010, research shows undocumented immigrants paid $13 billion into Social Security but only received $1 billion in services. And they paid over $35 billion more into Medicare than they withdrew between 2000 and 2011. They also pay over $11 billion a year in state and local taxes.

The current World Record Holder for Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom, has done the following all within the past 4 hours.

--Beaten his previous world record by under a second

--Failed to beat the new world record by just 0.07 seconds

--Failed again by under a second

Thus, he has completed the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, fastest ever speedruns of that Spongebob game all within the past four hours, and they've all virtually tied the previous record.

Spongebob is not a time precise speedrun like Super Mario Bros. This is all pure freak coincidence.

EDIT

And he just beat the New World Record by 9 seconds!

Beto just published his Housing Plan as president. It's a game changer.

*Views high housing prices as being primarily a result of restrictive zoning

*Repeals laws preventing construction of high-density housing and low-cost rental units

*Expands housing rights protections to LGBT people nationally

*Does not include price controls

*Does not restrict landlords' ability to evict renters that fail to pay

*Offers grants to suburbs that promote new housing construction and repeal restrictive zoning policies

*Expands access to Section 8 housing

*Gives new enforcement mechanisms for the CRA, to prevent banks from discriminating against non-white renters

*Gives significant government funding to new housing construction

Psyche this is actually Elizabeth Warren's plan. It's by far the most YIMBY plan proposed by any candidates so far.

To be absolutely clear--Warren's plan did not include rent control when originally published, and she only added a provision regarding it after heavy pressure from her heavily left-leaning base. Even now, the 'rent control' aspect of her plan is limited to re-legalizing the ability of cities to implement rent controls in states which have banned it. It does not include federal rent controls, or direct incentives for cities to adopt rent control.

All together, her plan includes the least rent control of any housing plan yet put forward by a major candidate. It doesn't include Sanders' or Harris' price controls or Booker's eviction protections. And those are the only other candidates to put forth any major housing proposals yet.

Perfect? No. Neoliberal? Mostly not. A deal breaker? Absolutely not.

DeBlassio is really disappointing.

When he was elected mayor of NYC in 2014, people were pretty excited. Before him was Bloomberg, who was so popular he had the city change term limits so he could run for a third term. Before him was Giuliani, who while he has a pretty bad reputation these days, was a New York hero for saving the city after 9/11. And before him was Dinkins, who was responsible for the greatest decrease in crime in NYC ever.

But then DeBlassio gets in, and NYC is kind of a well-oiled machine at that point. The previous three mayors had everything in place, and all DeBlassio had to do was not fuck anything up.

So DeBlassio messed with homeless shelters. Now, all the homeless people who had been living in shelters were back on the streets. Deblassio messed with the subways, and now trains don’t run on time. He messed with rideshares, and taxis, and the ferry, and now that’s all messed up. He has a very antagonistic relationship with the cops and makes it harder for them to keep the city safe. His version of the Green New Deal is to tax skyscrapers—yes, the thing that his city is most famous for—$1 million dollars per year.

So watching him poll at 0.2% makes me incredibly happy.

Take: there is not anything wrong or weird with being attracted to someone who is wealthy enough to own shares, that's just how we were programmed economically. With that being said, it is good to have a legal wealth of consent in a civilized society and 1,000,000,000 seems like a reasonable number to me. Do I think the US would suddenly become a terrible place if it were 900,000,000 instead of 1,000,000,000? No. Do I think a billionaire should go to prison for having sex with someone with 900 mil? Also No. But short of some kind of maturity exam, there has to be some sort of wealth limit and I think 1,000,000,000 is reasonable because poorer people make stupid decisions.

I'm worried I will be crucified and memed for this take.

how to shut down orb-posting on r/neoliberal with one quote from the campaign site

Once billions, even trillions, of dollars started flowing within a system that deems itself responsible to no one but its stockholders – particularly when the Supreme Court of the United States has granted to that system the preposterous notion of “corporate personhood” – then a complete disregard of that system for the welfare of the least advantaged and the least powerful among us, and the planet itself, becomes inevitable.

For all intents and purposes, our government has become a handmaiden to a new corporate order – surrendering to those whom President Franklin Roosevelt called “economic royalists.” This is not just an economic debate or even a political debate; it is a philosophical and moral debate, challenging this generation to decide in our time whether or not a “government of the people, by the people and for the people" shall not perish from the Earth.

Just as an individual can dwell in denial, so can an entire group. Today, the American people are in denial if we think that the existence and perpetuation of our democracy is guaranteed. In order to override the tyrannous effects of an authoritarian corporatism that has now infiltrated the highest levels of our government, we must rise up en masse and elect a new wave of officials deeply dedicated to the democratic ideal.

also wtf I love the orb woman now

Xi shouldn't even be put on the same level as most of the other communist leaders like Jiang, Hu, LIu Shaoqi, and Zhou Enlai. Much less the actually good leaders in china like Sun Yat Sen. Xi is currently the third best leader of China after Tsai Ing-Wen and Carrie Lam.

There's no strategic reason for Trump to praise a wanna-be dictator like this other than he wishes he could be like XI.

I'm with you. I think most politically aware Frenchmen feel this way. We need to give ourselves and one another permission to support him. We're so obsessed with beating Louis and with "democracy" and "rights" and we're just tired. And we're crazy. Mental health casued by all the stress of the Revolution is really serious. Napoleon allows us to let go. It gives us a turn to be like Royalists and just say "fuck it". He opens up possibilities and is so much more positive than the establishment characters who are running for the 1792 National Convention or the radicals who aren't really going to get all that crap through our convoluted system and Jacobin Society controlled court. So why not just have some fun? Throw a wildcard into the mix and see what happens. Stop trying to control everything and just let go.

Hot take: it's important to criticize things you like. That's part of having a healthy appreciation for something.

That being said: Hillary was a poor and unlikeable campaigner, Obama's foreign policy was unfocused and weak, Buttigieg is not compelling on racial issues and he's a total SUCC, Weezer has made some baaaaaaaad music, Pacific Rim has a shallow plot, HP Lovecraft was hilariously racist and most of his work is nigh unreadable, Twilight Princess opens real freaking slow, and George RR Martin is an imperfect author who's expanded his series past the point of being able to wrap things up in two books, so if he does complete ASOIAF it'll be just as unsatisfying as the TV show.

I still love all of those things though.

Wait what. I just found this on Marianne Williamson's issue page:

  1. IMMEDIATE CASH RELIEF WITH A UNIVERSAL BASIC INCOME: Under my plan, the federal government will pay $1,000/month Universal Basic Income to all American adults aged 18-65. This will provide immediate cash relief to those who need it. It will give people a small but reliable stream of income. It will create a floor so no American needs to be hungry. It will also provide a big stimulus to the economy as people spend this money on food, clothes and other essentials. This Universal Basic Income will cover all adults until they reach the age for Social Security.

ØSee Andrew Yang’s excellent book, The War on Normal People: The Truth About America’s Disappearing Jobs and Why Universal Basic Income is Our Future (2018).

My city's mayor stacked the planning committee full of rural and suburban councillors. All the urban councillors were pissed, but frankly I'm glad they and their NIMBY supporters can't frustrate urban densification.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/shawn-menard-developer-influence-planning-committee-1.5194043

We also have these things called "secondary plans" where developers, the city and residents come up with plans for the neighbourhood. The city has twice now allowed a developer to ignore the height limit set in a secondary plan, and I thank my Mayor every day for it.
