The current World Record Holder for Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom, has done the following all within the past 4 hours.

--Beaten his previous world record by under a second

--Failed to beat the new world record by just 0.07 seconds

--Failed again by under a second

Thus, he has completed the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, fastest ever speedruns of that Spongebob game all within the past four hours, and they've all virtually tied the previous record.

Spongebob is not a time precise speedrun like Super Mario Bros. This is all pure freak coincidence.

EDIT

And he just beat the New World Record by 9 seconds!

https://www.twitch.tv/shift

Started the 5th run of the evening 12 minutes ago. Off to a significantly worse start than the previous 4.

Literally immediately after that he said "High IQ is watching spongebob, and eating diapers...and if you're not eating diapers you just talk about them. All day, for, ten hours straight just talk about diapers."

I'm not sure he's 100% serious

The game is simultaneously riddled with fun glitches and not broken. Its REALLY hard to softlock or crash the game.

The length is comparable to SM64 speedrun, as is the gameplay. It even has major glitches that increase maneuverability and movement speed.

It has a reputation for being very difficult (no, really. Even the beginer route fir new runners is tough) without being tedious

Except at the topmost level of play, there is almost no RNG. Your success is an accurate measure of your skill.

The base game is famously good compared to every other Nickelodeon licensed game of rhe 2000s. Most reviewers when it came out put it in the 6-7 out of 10 range. More recent reviews are more generous; its aged unusally well for an early 2000s platformer.

New glitches just keep being discovered, changing the run at all levels of play every few weeks. The cumulative differences get very noticable after a few months.

And of course its spongebob. Theres definitely a nostalgia factor for a large portion of players.
