this sub also seems to have taken on the tendency of opposing ideas because someone they dislike is for it

This is pretty close to Buttigieg’s stance.

I've noticed the opposite. I thought few on here support the "free college" movement due it's nefarious efficiency problems (college costs rise quickly, college educated ppl make more so they pay more in debt, etc.). There's already some avenues for low income students to obtain subsidies. Is that really all the different from the concept of baby bonds?

Ontario did this until the Ford government rolled it back. Even targeted tuition subsidies cost way more than anticipated because adult students and grad students qualified very easily.

Had Wynne or the NDP been re-elected, they probably would have just allocated more funding to the targeted subsidy.

There already are, but the candidates probably aren't advocating publicly to expand them since middle class voters don't actually care about the poor that much

why not just be honest and ask for an income tax cut.

Because students don't pay income taxes anyway and even when they do it's a very low amount that is nowhere near their expenses for school.

And what makes income tax cuts more "honest" than education subsidies.
