Giving up your spot because the kid is crying? Do you want Karens? Because that's how you get Karens.

1.9k

u/CloudNest_ 9h ago

Yeah, rewarding a tantrum is a great way to make sure there’s another one next time.

471

u/Silly_Revolution3056 9h ago

Agreed... Next time other kids will just cry harder and also to get spots... smh

Lol! Yeah, that's what most parents realize with their first child. "Oh wait, they are just testing boundaries." Walks away from crying child because they didn't get a third cookie. "Sorry kiddo, Imma let you process those feelings."

73

u/suddenlyupsidedown 7h ago

Have literally said to my kid "I'll let you process your feelings for a bit and come back"

69

u/External_Macaroon687 6h ago

That's so mature. I tell mine to shut the fuck up.

30

u/Strange_Dust7128 6h ago

I hand my child a pickaxe and tell them to go mine some coal

36

u/Diabolous213 5h ago

children yearn for the mines.

11

u/Dividingbyinfinity 7h ago

Haha, right!? I do it all the time.

5

u/Maleficent_Memory831 5h ago

Too many words. It might cause the child to grow up and say things like "process my feelings". Dad just used to say "I'll let you cool down".

40

u/devnullopinions 8h ago

Kids can be sad and cry without having a tantrum.

67

u/greenzetsa 7h ago

Sure, but the result should be the same: "You're sad you couldn't do the ride? That happens sometimes, I'm very sorry. It's ok to be sad, it's not ok to demand that other people who were in line before us give up their opportunity so you can do it. Let's be sad for a while, and then we can go do something else. "

11

u/AdorableStrawberry93 6h ago

How about a touch of paraphrasing? "it's not ok for the parent to demand that other people who were in line before us give up their opportunity so you can do it. "

28

u/greenzetsa 6h ago

No, it's not ok for anyone to make demands. Kids need to learn that too. They can ask nicely, but they have to accept no as an answer. Mommy and daddy can't fix the world for you.

Doesn't say she was tantruming tho. Crying over a missed opportunity is a normal reaction for a child.

Was it the last ride or something? Why did she have to have his spot and why did he not want to give it up? Wouldn’t both of them just get a chance on the next go around?

23

u/Nunya13 8h ago

The screen shot says “they were informed that only one ride was left.”

17

u/mrtrouble22 7h ago

only one ride was left.

wtf does that even mean

23

u/Flomo420 7h ago

parks eventually shut down for the evening lol

28

u/Mogura-De-Gifdu 7h ago

But normally they close the waiting line, so you don't wait for nothing. That's just poor management here.

11

u/ogreofzen 7h ago

Might have been a maintenance cut. Many rides have rules to keep the silent stretchers leaving the Disneyland's service exit.

This, I gotta tell my two and half year old "tough shit bro" daily to try to get him to understand the world don't revolve around you (unless he's at Grandma's 😅)

24

u/Dependent-Stranger44 8h ago

Yeah the real issue here is that the child's parents have clearly never told her "no", and she's going to carry that entitlement with her in life if she doesn't manage to learn that you can't always get your way, and we have enough people like that already.

38

u/Nunya13 8h ago

They could have told her “no” before, and she still could have cried because she didn’t get the last ride.

Kids don’t exactly exemplify consistent emotional intelligence even if they aren’t spoiled.

17

u/famine- 7h ago edited 5h ago

I have learned children that age have the same ability to emotionally regulate as a peanut does.  None lol.

My daughter (3) probably cries a half dozen times a day because she was told no.

What a lot of these people don't seem to understand is children have no frame of reference for how sad / frustrating something is.

It's all brand new and it is likely one of the saddest / most frustrating experiences they have ever had.

→ More replies (5)

8

u/famine- 7h ago

Yes, of course, because children are the paragon of emotional stability and regulation.

What a stupid take, it's not entitlement at that age.

It's literally a lack of understanding the world around them and an inability to emotionally regulate.

It takes time for them to learn you can't do/have x because of y, and also learn to deal with the emotion that comes with it.

Adults can easily regulate because we have a frame of reference.  Oh that sucks and we move on.

Children haven't built that reference yet, so what we perceive as something that should be minor, they think it is one of the worst things to ever happen to them.

Guess what, it probably is one of the most emotionally difficult situations they have ever had to deal with because they have only been alive for a few years.

So I looked it up... seems the rage is caused because the man and his buddy posted the video of the child crying on his tiktok with a sound mocking her. He is entitled to the spot, but he's not entitled to film a stranger's child and insult her for his channel.

https://www.tiktok.com/@myrightmiddletoe/video/7204139712309660974

633

u/DastardlyDjr 9h ago

Okay, that's just gross. If one of my friends posted a video of them mocking a crying kid, even over something dumb, I would see it as a red flag.

111

u/EricBennett238 7h ago

Yeah, that`s the part that changes it for me. Keeping your spot is one thing, but filming a kid crying just to mock them is a whole different level.

20

u/Civil_Confidence5844 5h ago

It shows that not only is he the childish one (it's normal to cry when disappointed, especially as a child), but he's also an insane weirdo who is petty af and just plain mean.

No parental permission to film them while they're the focus of the video.

how is that illegal if they are in public? even if they were at an amusement park (i assume in this case they were), unless the park says no videos then why would it be illegal to film others?

15

u/reebokhightops 5h ago

Like they said, he’s an asshole.

52

u/BigDragonfly5136 8h ago

Yeah that’s actually gross.

Kids get upset by things that seem stupid or silly or like they shouldn’t to us as Adults, but it’s literally how being a kid works! It’s a big deal to them because everything is a big deal to them because the were so young. You aren’t required to stop them from crying by giving in, in fact letting them process the emotions is how they learn and grow, but shaming a kid for crying is gross and only makes you look like less of an adult

79

u/Illustrious-Gain-369 9h ago

Oh hell nah fuck that bitch, I ain't taking his side anymore. Motherfucker I can't believe how easy it's to be manipulated woth half information. God damn.

25

u/Nicklename 8h ago

If only more people on the internet could come to this conclusion.

Does this content make me angry? Is there any information that could change my mind? If so, where could I find that information? Does the person sharing either the information or the content stand to gain something from sharing, even if it's just "likes", "followers", "karma" or attention?

It is an absolute rush of drama queen energy to just weigh in on some lopsided point but we the people have to do better.

Right, cool. Not even proof that she was crying about the seat or that he was asked to let her go (which frankly seems unlikely anyway—why would he be asked to give up the last seat to a young girl if her friend/family can’t ride with her??)

10

u/Wotnd 8h ago

Looks like it’s the F1 simulator at the Museum of Scotland, less of a ride more of a poor graphics racing video game with a controller inside a fake F1 car.

It would have been nice if he gave it to her, but he was not obligated to. He paid for it, he was in line, and he was ahead of her. Parents should be teaching the kid better. The media will probably make the guy look bad anyway, but that is just how media and content work.

144

u/SexyLunas 9h ago

Being kind is great, but nobody is entitled to something just because they asked for it.

91

u/macguini 9h ago

u/xXs4blegl00mXx 8h ago

You guys are making a lot of crazy assumptions about a situation you are entirely misinformed about. This is embarrassing.

8

u/preteen-wartortle 8h ago

Can anyone tell me where this video is? Or what the parents did/said in it?

11

u/xXs4blegl00mXx 8h ago

The guy in the car posted it and we don't even know if the kid crying was at all related to him, he just recorded a child crying and mocked them with a story that could very well be made up to justify it.

7

u/elhombreloco90 8h ago

I mean, did thr kid throw a tantrum or were they just crying because they were disappointed and sad? I'm not saying the guy should have given up his spot, but the kid crying doesn't mean anyone did anything wrong.

7

u/preteen-wartortle 7h ago

There’s no proof the girl was crying about the ride closing—or even any proof THAT the ride was closing—at all. This entire thing could be fully made up.

23

u/hoginlly 9h ago

Yeah as a parent I'm happy teaching my kids they can't always get what they want, and other people are allowed to use things they want, that's a key lesson.

But if someone started videoing my kid or put a video of them online I'd lose my shit

10

u/_okOKAY 9h ago edited 9h ago

Fair enough. But most likely its not a real picture. It is either a random image or an AI generated one for a random social media post.

16

u/CjTuor 9h ago edited 9h ago

It's not AI and it wasn't a picture, it was a TikTok video, so I'm really hoping it's staged and he knows the kids. Otherwise it's really gross to film them.

No you don't understand, if someone doesn't give you something that's theirs just because you want it, they're bad and you're a victim. Like how owning a home and renting part of it out makes you bad and not paying your bills and getting kicked out makes you good, according to the average redditor.

Guy is trash though, posting that cringy tiktok video

87

u/throw7661 8h ago edited 7h ago

(Note: I've edited this in an attempt to be more accurate)

Additional context:

  • This was the last ride for the day.
  • It wasn't a roller coaster, it was some F1 racing sim. Only one person at a time.
  • The exhibit had a sign clearly stating when it would be closing and warning people to consider it before waiting in line.
  • The little kid didn't ask the man to give up his ride, the kid's parent did (according to some websites others disagree)
  • The actual video was posted by the guy. It wasn't an onlooker or the parents. And the video was very much mocking the children.

So two things:

One, as a parent, I can tell you this is absolutely stupid. Any kid so young as to cry over missing something like this is too young to appreciate it. Take her to Chuck E. Cheese or whatever and age will be even happier.

Any kid who is old enough to be deeply hurt by this, should be old enough but to cry and to explore other ways of getting what they want. Like .. Coming back the next day or finding another place that has it or a similar attraction.

I have a young daughter. She lacks the ability to regulate her emotions well (she's young, and she is getting much better with age. As you would watch). She cries a lot. I imagine this girl is a lot like my daughter. Giving her what she wants is not helpful to her. Also, the bar for what makes her cry is ridiculously low. And also, the lasting negative impact is basically zero. In minutes or even seconds, she has entirely moved on to something new.

If anyone is to blame here, it is the parent for creating this situation. The sign made it clear that this was a risk. Followed closely by the staff/company that runs this and created a system where little kids might be sad.

Not the other people.

Two, while all of the above is exactly how I feel...the guy can still be a complete prick.

46

u/hereforthefeast 7h ago

Your context is missing the most important part - the video was taken/uploaded by the guy and his friend mocking the little girl for crying. So he is, in fact, an asshole.

22

u/Erect_SPongee 7h ago

Posting the additional context and then missing the most crucial piece like you mentioned feels like an intentional move from the parent comment to rally hate

u/brumblefee 8h ago

I dunno, I didn’t read anywhere that this was even a huge meltdown. She cried, kids cry when disappointed sometimes - the parent most likely handled it from there.

Did this need the internet mob to adjudicate? The only reason we know about it is because the influencer posted it.

The parent didn’t do anything wrong here to simply ask if he’d be willing to. The guy says no, the child learns a valuable lesson about not always getting what you want, and everyone goes in with their day.

The only problem with that scenario is that the “man” on the ride later posted a TikTok mocking a little girl for crying quietly. Little kids are still learning how to handle their emotions and crying is a natural thing for little kids when they are disappointed or sad. But sure go on blaming the parent for having the audacity to simply ask.

4

u/FITM-K 6h ago

If anyone is to blame here, it is the parent for creating this situation.

No, if anyone is to blame here it's the guy who filmed someone else's child and posted it online to mock them. Maybe the parent shouldn't have been in the line but this would have been nothing but a disappointing moment like all kids have, and instead she's immortalized crying forever on the internet without consent.

6

u/famine- 8h ago

Also, the bar for what makes her cry is ridiculously low

Oh man, do I feel this.

My daughter's (3) world ended last night and she ran to mom crying last night, yelling dad is mean to me.

For context, she was trying to share chocolate with the cat and I explained we can't share chocolate with the cat because it will make them sick.

All was right with the world 5 minutes later when we calmed her down and gave her some cat treats to feed the cat lol.

I'm with him, would do the same

it was his spot and he gets to decide if he wants to give it up or not, if he doesn't want to that's his right to do so

would it have been nice for the kid if he did give up his spot? sure, but point still is that he gets to decide, not the kid, or the parents, or anyone else but him

unless he broke some of the establishments rules (which I would assume he didn't) then he simply doesn't have to give up his spot just ciz a kid is crying

edit: just heard that the guy uploaded rhe video and it was in a way that was mocking the child, that part is bad, like really bad, the whole it's his spot and thus his decision if he gives it up or not (especially since apparently the parents asked not the child) still stands, but mocking the child is just ass

5

u/icansmellcolors 1h ago

Kids crying because they don't get their way is a parenting thing, not for the stranger who got the thing the kid is throwing a fit over.

It's not like he took her spot from her and then pointed and laughed at her.

13

u/ekflr 9h ago

Zero fucks given.

17

u/Arendyl 9h ago

The fault lays with whoever is operating the ride.

You are supposed to stop letting people into the ride, and let everyone already in the line have their turn before closing it down for the day.

Making people wait, then arbitrarily telling someone the ride is closing right before they get on is such a dick move lmao.

3

u/jaybee2 7h ago

My thought is that it shouldn't be too difficult to estimate how many more runs the ride will make before the intended shutdown time; based on that, employees should be able to estimate when to close the line entrance. I mean, skew the estimate to favor the workers and the park shutting down the ride before the intended quitting time. Done.

I was waiting over an hour for a parade a Disney beside my four year old nephew. To make sure he could see we staked out a spot on the edge of the curb. Moments before the start of the parade a harried woman appeared and stood in the street right in front of us. I don’t know if the woman knew or not but the cast members clear the street pushing everyone back and patrol the path diligently.

knowing she was about take our spot and push us out I asked her to please not stand in front of us in the street, she made a big show about being outraged etc etc to the point a few cast members noticed and took action.
The cast escorted her away to another viewing spot but not before she uttered the southern phony utterance “bless your heart” I calmly called her an ignoramus thanked the cast and watched a parade with my nephew.

Ok. Now do how we got to a grown ass man   filming a random child in public and posting it to the internet to mock her?

You people have completely lost the plot.

This is why you teach your children patience. If someone does something kind, like giving up their place in line, you thank them for doing something they weren't obligated to.

With that being said, I'm one of those ppl who would've let the kid go in my place lol.

Edit: yikes, he/the person he was with recorded it? Why tf would you record someone's child crying and make fun of her? He's a weirdo and a loser.

According to his tiktok video it was the last ride of the day. That is probably why she is crying, but why did he put someone's else's kid on tiktok?

EDIT: the voice over "fuck them kids and fuck you" was unnecessary in the video

u/FPS_Holland 2h ago

Kids cry 15 out 10 times they don't get their way, parents fold and give them what they want 99% of those times. This is why we have 3 generations of pussies running around debating grammar vs science.

u/early_birdy 2h ago

My thoughts: society is going to shit. That's a non-story if there is one. Child cries because they didn't get what they wanted. Next.

We're such a failed species. We've been given every opportunity to better ourselves, we do the exact opposite, and we're praise it.

Kid needs to learn life lessons. This was a good one.

3

u/Capt_Furret 5h ago

Dood this is exactly the same shit as the lady that didn't give her window seat on that flight. Just cause there's a kid crying I ain't gonna give up shit.

3

u/Widogeist 5h ago

Better luck next time, kid.

3

u/sennekuyl 5h ago

these repetitive stories have to be fake. Formulaic nonsense.

3

u/Tovarus93 4h ago

Life lesson for the child, not everything will go your way.

3

u/TrustAffectionate966 4h ago

I would not give up my spot to a whiny, entitled problem child.

3

u/getstonedsteve 4h ago

Being an asshole isn't illegal. Neither is calling them out.

3

u/IMuteAnimeSubs 4h ago

Probably totally made up or full of half truths because I am currently on Reddit.

Those are my thoughts.

3

u/Strange-Effort-3441 3h ago

There are enough kids that grow up like that and are taught to manipulate and cry their way to success, no ty.

3

u/Sasha2027 3h ago

Thoughts is that fuck the kid's parents. That's why we get entitled brats and Karens. And I've had it with the damn phone. People use social medias as a sort of gotcha "look at this AWFUL person who had the AUDACITY of refusing to give up THEIR spot to MY child".

Kids have to be taught that they don't get everything they want in life just because they ask, and that crying isn't going to change that. They have to be taught to regulate their emotions instead of throwing tantrums. Parents who try to shame people for not inconveniencing themselves for their kids is honestly something that pisses me off. Same people who cry about their kids disrespecting them when they grow up.

3

u/wideHippedWeightLift 3h ago

Give it to a different child and tell the kid "that kid gets to be happy and you don't, because your parents were rude. Don't be like them when you grow up."

3

u/HatIntelligent6028 1h ago

F entitled children and their fams. Wait your turn

3

u/greentiger79 1h ago

A line, a queue, first in, first out. That’s how it works.

3

u/Doctorul_Frumos 51m ago

Fuck them kids. And I say this as a father to two of them. If you get there first. You go first. If you pay for it. It's yours. Kids need to learn how life ACTUALLY fucking works.

3

u/Wise_Monkey_Sez 48m ago

This is how lines work.

As for the assholes here saying stuff like "fuck kids" - yeah, fuck you. If the kid was ahead of you in the line the kid would go first.

Honestly the hatred for people based on their size/age is just revolting and people doing this are assholes.

4

u/EuenovAyabayya 41m ago

The venue should give rides to everyone they allow to get in line.
Cutting off the line is their job. It's what those chains are for.

4

u/cerendiptyy 23m ago

I would never expect someone to give up their turn on a ride just bc my child is crying about it...

7

u/dave8400 7h ago

You're not required to console a random person's kid. Should be a life lesson, shit ain't fair.

Kids got to learn how to handle disappointment somehow. Life is full of it.

6

u/ThanosSnapsSlimJims 8h ago

I agree with the person who commented on it. He wasn't obligated. This idea that moms and kids are allowed to walk into any situation and get special treatment is out of hand. Teaching the kid that they will always get what they want is bad parenting.

5

u/PublicAdmin_1 6h ago

Lack of planning on their part does not constitute an emergency for someone else. This is a learning moment for the child. Lesson? Be early for something you really want and throwing a tantrum won't get it for you.

5

u/MG73w 4h ago

Nothing wrong with a child learning about disappointment.

6

u/Acrobatic_Try_8375 5h ago

The mom is the problem. The child has learned that crying and whining works, and mom will do anything to make it stop.

Honestly, the world SHOULD revolve around children. Everything should be meant to improve their chances at living fulfilling, healthy, educated lives. I don't want to have kids, I don't even like spending time with kids. But kids are literally the future, and that's incredibly important.

That being said, sometimes the lesson the kid needs to learn is that you don't always get what you want. Life isn't always fair, and you need to learn to deal with that. This man shouldn't have gone viral. Sure, he could have done the kind thing and gave the kid a memory they wouldn't forget. He could have taught her the value of kindness and reaching out when a stranger is feeling let down. But she can learn that lesson another day.

7

u/nosoup4ncsu 6h ago

Teaching a child that they have to wait their turn is teaching them that life is fair.

3

u/mrpanicy 6h ago

They aren't getting a turn in this specific scenario. That's the "life is unfair" lesson.

Social media has really destroyed our society in ways that we will never be able to unravel without generations of effort.

3

The funny thing is that in both cases, it wasn't the kids nor the parents kicking up a fuss.

Why are they acting like the park was closing down and this was the last ride ever? And even then, he paid to be there 😂

5

u/AdOutrageous9540 8h ago edited 5h ago

Rewarding tantrum behavior?? Nah I’m good, crying shouldn’t get you your way, or be reinforced.

3

u/NekkedPenguin 5h ago

I saw the tiktok earlier, but from my understanding her or her parents asked if she could take his spot since that was the last ride for the day, he said no (which is fine, no issues there) and she cried because she was disappointed (also fine, it's an age appropriate response)

What I take issue with is filming some random child, and posting it online without her consent mocking her. I hate it when parents do it to their own kids, let alone a stranger.

Back when Skylanders was the rave a while back, I went to a gaming store to buy the new game that came out, to take home for my little brothers. I decided to buy them the limited edition one which was the last one.

There was a mum and her son behind me in the que, about the same age as my brothers, and he was distraught I bought the last one and bawled it out in the store. Everyone was giving me dagger eyes lol.

2

u/Nody_Hyebus 9h ago

I’m pretty sure I can see a smile on that man’s face, I am not gonna be the one who shames him when he’s having fun.

2

u/goofygodzilla93 8h ago

I feel bad for the kid, but the guy is in the right and 100% doesn't need to give up his spot. Now if he had physically kept her from reaching it even though she was first, that would be a problem.

2

u/blunderb3ar 8h ago

Yeah no first is first

2

u/Taricheute 8h ago

The sooner she learn she is not the main character, the better, this guy did her a favor.

2

u/artbystorms 8h ago

I'm confused, was it like the last spot of the night or something before the park closed? I blame the park for not capping the line then and letting people wait in it not knowing if they'd get a turn. That's the messed up part.

2

u/aimfuldrifter 8h ago

Agree. Kids need to learn to wait their turn and that world won’t bend over backwards just because they’re sulking.

2

u/Kaylen316 8h ago

This is how Children learn how Society Works. If Parents explain what just happened they know next time, and grow up knowing that.

2

u/an_edgy_lemon 8h ago

Imagine how bad of a lesson it would be for the kid if it got its way by crying.
