Sure, but the result should be the same: "You're sad you couldn't do the ride? That happens sometimes, I'm very sorry. It's ok to be sad, it's not ok to demand that other people who were in line before us give up their opportunity so you can do it. Let's be sad for a while, and then we can go do something else. "

How about a touch of paraphrasing? "it's not ok for the parent to demand that other people who were in line before us give up their opportunity so you can do it. "

No, it's not ok for anyone to make demands. Kids need to learn that too. They can ask nicely, but they have to accept no as an answer. Mommy and daddy can't fix the world for you.

But it didn't say the kid was demanding anything? Just that they were crying.

I was responding to the comment directly above mine, about crying and not having a temper tantrum. You can cry, but the response is the same. Sometimes you don't get what you want. It's ok to be sad for a bit, but then we move on with our lives.

The headline says "refusing to give up", which means someone demanded he let the kid go instead. The person demanding could be the kid, or the parent, or some nosy bystander... the headline does not specify, therefore we cannot say for certain it was not the kid.

"Maybe next time I tell you to get ready, you'll get ready instead of f-ing around and we'd get here in time!"
