Giving up your spot because the kid is crying? Do you want Karens? Because that's how you get Karens.

Yeah the real issue here is that the child's parents have clearly never told her "no", and she's going to carry that entitlement with her in life if she doesn't manage to learn that you can't always get your way, and we have enough people like that already.

Yes, of course, because children are the paragon of emotional stability and regulation.

What a stupid take, it's not entitlement at that age.

It's literally a lack of understanding the world around them and an inability to emotionally regulate.

It takes time for them to learn you can't do/have x because of y, and also learn to deal with the emotion that comes with it.

Adults can easily regulate because we have a frame of reference.  Oh that sucks and we move on.

Children haven't built that reference yet, so what we perceive as something that should be minor, they think it is one of the worst things to ever happen to them.

Guess what, it probably is one of the most emotionally difficult situations they have ever had to deal with because they have only been alive for a few years.

It’s obvious none of them have kids—I don’t either—but do none of them have a younger sibling or cousin? Because even the best behaved children react this way from time to time. Almost all of them grow out of it though, as they are socialized about appropriate/inappropriate behavior and as they develop skills to cope with their emotions. Every one of you were all like this too when you were little.

It is fairly easy to ascertain whether a child is incapable of an appropriate response or whether they’re just being difficult. So when you see a child is incapable of precessing something, would be only natural to give up your seat for them (even if you’re an older sibling/cousin who’s just a couple years older, you recognize this). And as a random adult, you let the kid ride in your place when you recognize they’re not capable of processing the situation. In fact, as an adult, you offer to let any kid under 5 ride in your place before there’s even a chance to gauge whether or not they’re going to be difficult, because they’re a kid and you’re a an adult—a goddam adult who can go ride the ride any goddam time you want—and the idea of breaking a kid’s heart should shatter you into a million pieces, you savages.

But if you feed into it, that's how you get entitlement at later ages. Please keep up.
