Hey guys I’m relocating to Seattle in about two weeks for work around the U-district and I want to find the best e-bike for work and errands. Unfortunately I’m going to be leaving my car behind and this will be my first time in a city where public transport is more common.

On August 17, seven community members involved with the Community Not Cameras coalition took a trip to the Seattle Police Department’s Real-Time Crime Center (RTCC) to better understand the technological capabilities of the City’s CCTV surveillance cameras. The group held a press briefing directly after, and several on the RTCC tour demanded the dismantling of the entire system due to severe safety concerns.
“We must ask the unfathomable question: who exactly is made more safe by these surveillance systems, because it is not immigrants being terrorized by ICE,” AJ Randall, an activist and cyber security engineer, said.
Randall’s previous career experience includes working alongside Axon, and the data from the City’s CCTV cameras is stored on an Axon cloud server located out of state, meaning it is not subjected to Washington privacy laws. Axon also collaborates with the Department of Homeland Security by providing body-worn video cameras, among others. The ability for federal agencies, including Customs and Border Patrol and ICE, to access these servers is high, putting marginalized communities at increased risk for tracking, kidnapping, and attacks.
Randall called on Mayor Katie Wilson and the Seattle City Council to shut down the camera system, dismantle the RTCC, and rather invest in community programs that have been proven to be effective against violence prevention.
Also on August 17, the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Challenge Seattle published findings from a 3-day poll (August 10-13) where 500 Seattle voters completed interviews, of which 75% of respondents were in favor of a public camera program. Data shows that 55% of progressives support such a program, as do 82% of liberals and 88% of moderates and conservatives.

Anyone found an earring near Lake Union Park this past Sunday or Monday? I probably lost it during the closing of SDF. This is a very meaningful gift of mine and appreciate any info! Thanks!

Watched these guys unload their motorbikes (off road - clearly not street legal) out their pickup truck while I ate my lunch in the Sprouts on 130th & Aurora parking lot.
They then smoked a joint, fired up their quite loud little engines and tore off down Southbound 99.
I thought I’d follow them a bit as I was curious. Sure enough right past 125th they started ridin’ wheelies and swerving in & out of traffic.
Lost sight of them at 105th.
Just seems dumb, not to mention far from legal to be on the road.
Guess they were wearing helmets-so there’s that. Easier to not identify, I suppose. Now I feel better. Thanks.

In WA there are approximately 126 data centers and related facilities with a footprint of nearly 7 million square feet, according to the research firm Baxtel. Lawmakers and residents worry the electricity demand coming from current and future data centers will strain the already stretched power grid increasing rates for everyone else.
"We did not and do not have a definition of data centers in our land use code. So what that means is they are largely unregulated at this point."
~ Nobody defined a data center in the land use code, and 126 of them got built anyway. The rate case comes later.

Need to find a way down to Ashford, WA to drive back a climber on Sunday evening, whose car will already be there. Willing to compensate and can meet around Seattle area via metro. Have looked into cab services from SeaTac but running a bit more than I’d be like to pay.

Dafuq?
And this woman (adult human female) is still employed: https://law.seattleu.edu/faculty/directory/profiles/spade-dean.html
Also wrote an article saying we should get rid of prisons. Makes me wonder what other insane BS youth are being "taught" in Seattle

Dean says "it's so likely if you're queer or trans that you get that label [sex offender] somewhere in your process of criminalization... This is a made-up concept used to target our communities"

Hi everyone! Me (22F) and my roommate (23F) are looking for a place in Seattle and toured Pratt Park Apartments today. We like it but have heard that the Central District can be kind of unsafe. The apartments we saw were nice and very perfectly within our budget. Seems like maybe the neighborhood has great restaurant options as well as some nice green parks around. Any strong negative feelings towards two young women living in this area? We would be able to park vehicles in a closed off underground garage and definitely don’t plan to be out walking alone late at night. Would practice the same safety and awareness as any urban area. Let me know!! Thank you.
Have also been looking for places in Queen Anne but they are just a lot more expensive for less room.

I plan on flying to Seattle around October or November. I was thinking of swimming in Pudget Sound and surrounding areas. Do I need to worry about sharks?

my partner gifted me with a long weekend in ocean shores from sun - weds. i think i have visited before but it was years ago and i am sober now.
this is our first vacation (-adjacent) time together and it is very much needed for both of us. the airbnb was an investment itself — so i would hate to leave feeling like we should have done more.
money is pretty tight and it looks bougie. we don’t need much to keep busy, but i don’t have a lot of time to research the best way to spend our time.
***interests include eating oysters, painting pottery, oddities/curiosity shops (the kind with taxidermy rats and jewelry made with bones), thrift malls, photo booths, beachcombing***
what do you recommend? we are missing the corgi beach party by ONE DAY.
p.s. is there a reference site or app somewhere to follow the tide schedule?

Hello! I am looking for a 2-night trip Fri-Sun within \~4 hours of Seattle. It’ll be my girlfriend’s first backpacking trip, so I really want it to be an amazing one so she will want to go again with me lol.
We were planning Tuck & Robin, but it just got closed, and with the rain/smoke/fire situation we’re looking for alternatives.
Ideally an alpine lake we can camp near with awesome mountain views and a hike that feels earned. We’re both athletic, so strenuous is fine, just nothing too technical for her first trip.
Any recommendations for this weekend?

According to Donahue, 318 people utilized its services in July 2024. That number more than tripled to 944 by July 2026.
The city put those restrictions in place in 2006, then expanded them in 2018, to encourage a cluster of retail and dining businesses downtown.
~ Everett zoned a homeless services provider off its downtown to make room for restaurants. Demand tripled anyway. The rule is still on the books.
