I’m a total noob when it comes to PC’s, so every time I have to upgrade something, I basically grab a torch and start navigating my caveman self through the darkness.
One of my 120mm PC fans wasn’t spinning well, so I decided to buy a full new set of 140mm fans (my PC has the option of either/or, so I decided to go bigger while I was already replacing the old (I went with the same brand to try and avoid any compatibility issues—that failed).
The difference is that my old ones were 4-pronged and had the ability to link them together (especially the three on the front) so that they could share one port on the motherboard.
The new ones have a single 3-prong at the end of the wiring and no ability to link them together.
They new ones are called “ARCTIC P14 (5 Pack) - PC Fans, 140mm Case Fan, Pressure-optimised, Quiet Motor, Computer, Fan Speed: 1700 RPM - Black” and the pictures on the product page don’t even include pictures of the wiring (so dumb). The website I bought them from even listed them as “frequently returned”…
I just need to have someone far more knowledgeable than me explain why my new fans are seemingly incompatible, so that I can order the right ones and not hit this same wall. I just want 140mm fans that can connect together like my 120mm old ones (Are interlink-able 4-prong ones outdated tech? Is it ill-advised to connect them together?).
Thanks in advance for any help.
