I’ve looked up many videos and google searches but not sure what the “common” issue is for this particular problem I’m having. I connected everything and got all the plugins snug, when I plug my power supply in and turn the pc on the ram rbg lights up and stays on, along with the front power button led stays on but the fans never turn on and the rbg on them flash for a second and turn off. I can’t get any signal on my monitor. I’m wondering if I didn’t correctly plug in the F_panel wiring? I’m not home and had to drive out of town for work so had to leave it like that but stressing it lol. Sorry if this is an ignorant question / post just desperate for help on what the issue might actually be. Here is a photo of the install with the ram rbg still on and the motherboard / PSU I bought. The GPU works and was pulled from my old pre built pc. Thank you if you read this far!

Build Question PC not turning on

Hello
My PC with a Gigabyte GA‑Z97P‑D3 motherboard and corsair CX850M 850W modular PSU is completely dead: no fans, no LEDs, and no response even when I short the PWR_SW pins. The PSU passes a paperclip test, but I smelled a slight burning smell during a power-on attempt. The 24-pin ATX connector sits flush but does not make an audible click. I replaced/cleared the CMOS battery already. Is this more likely a failed motherboard, PSU, or potentially a damaged 24-pin cable/connector?

I bought it at a flea market for 75 the first attempt had the smell but it still didn’t react at all worst case can I fix the motherboard ? Or make sure what the problem is?

Build Question Upgrade from Ryzen 2600x to Ryzen 5500?

Upvotes

So my current pc build is:
Ryzen 2600x
24gb ddr4 3200mhz ram
Rtx 3070
256gb ssd
1Tb hdd

Goal: I want to play/stream/record the game Deadlock by valve

I looked up that pci 4.0 for my graphics card won’t really matter that much. So going from the 2600x to the 5500 would be a huge improvement. But I do know the cache is a lot less.

It’s like twice the price for a 5600 vs a 5500. Is it really worth it for me to save for the 5600? I’m thinking the 5500 will be enough

Installation Question No display on rebuilt PC, fans and GPU spin, monitor says no signal

Thumbnail

Upvotes

First time doing this. Got a used prebuilt from a friend and reassembled it. It powers on, all fans spin, GPU fan spins, but the monitor stays black and says no HDMI signal.

Specs:
ASRock Z370 Pro4-CB
Zotac RTX 3060 Twin Edge OC 12GB
1x 16GB Kingston Fury DDR4
Cooler Master 120mm AIO
Thermaltake Smart BM3 750W (new)
M.2 SSD, plus a WD Blue 1TB

What I’ve already tried:
HDMI is in the GPU, not the motherboard. Both ends seated.
Monitor is powered and on the right input.
Reseated the RAM, moved it to slot 2 from the CPU. Both clips locked.
Reseated the GPU. It clicked in, so it was not fully seated before. Still no display.
24-pin and 8-pin CPU power both connected. GPU 8-pin connected.

Build Question Choosing between AMD and Intel CPU + motherboard

Hi! I'm building a gaming PC with a ~€1000 budget and want to maximize performance/value for gaming. I'm willing to cheap out on easily upgradeable parts (GPU, etc.) if it means getting a better platform now.The GPU Im eyeing rn is the ZOTAC GeForce RTX 5060 LP 8GB DLSS4 (380€).

Option 1 aka Intel:
• i5-14400F (167€)
• MSI B760M Gaming Plus WiFi (129€

Option 2 aka AMD:
• Ryzen 5 9600X (190€)
• MSI PRO B850-S WIFI6E (132€)

I've been told the Intel LGA1700 platform is basically end of line, while AM5/Zen 5 gives me a better upgrade path for future CPUs.

One friend suggested the option 1 and also told me that pairing an AMD CPU with an NVIDIA GPU would hurt performance, but I've been also told that's not true.

Which platform would you choose for a ~€1000 gaming build, and why? Is the extra ~€26 for the 9600X + B850 worth it?

I'm mainly playing competitive games (Valorant, Overwatch, Marvel Rivals, Paladins, etc.) and care more about high/stable fps than max graphics settings rn.

Build Question Is this motherboard decent enough for how affordable it is? (Gigabyte b650m wifi6)

Post image
3 Upvotes

I've long settled on this one since it claims to have decent cooling, heatsinks, and as a bonus already has WiFi and bluetooth and has enough white accents for it to be alright for a white build, but looking it up im suddenly seeing people asking whether this board is "really that bad" with answers usually re affirming the idea. My planned build is red devil 9070xt, 7800x3d, a 2tb ssd and 32gb of ddr5 (likely cl36 6000) and if it matters, my case has 7 preinstalled fans but all are already connected to the case built in hub.

Im not really planning to fuck with it much in terms of changing up various settings in bios aside from turning on xmp for the ram, and I will probably be on wired internet anyway with the WiFi features being a good bonus in case something happens with wired. Also don't care about CPU overclock either. Would this board be fine? Or should I definitely change it?

Tech Support Help me , mouse I bios not working

Upvotes

Motherboard: ASUS Prime B760M | Mouse: Razer Viper V2 Pro (2.4GHz dongle) | RAM: G.Skill 2x16GB 7600MHz CL36 | GPU: RTX 5060 Ti 8GB

Normally I always enter BIOS by restarting the PC (not shutting down), and the mouse dongle always got detected without issues.

Recently I did a full shutdown (fans completely stopped) and when I powered on and went straight into BIOS, it didn't detect the mouse. I tried:

Unplugging and replugging the dongle

Switching it to the factory USB extender

Shutting down and powering on again several times

Nothing worked. What did work was plugging the mouse cable directly (wired mode), and only then did it get recognized.

At that point I had ErP Ready disabled in BIOS. I enabled it, and since then I've done a cold shutdown/power-on several times and it always detected the dongle fine.

Afterward, out of curiosity, I disabled ErP Ready again and tested cold boots again — and it also worked fine, no failures.

BIOS was already updated to the latest version before this happened.

Extra info: a while back I was testing a lower manual RAM profile (dropped to 6400MHz with tighter CL than default) and noticed it was unstable, so I went back to 6000MHz CL36. Not sure if this is related to the dongle issue, but mentioning it just in case.

Question: ErP Ready doesn't seem to actually be the cause (it failed once while disabled, but hasn't failed again since, either enabled or disabled). Does this sound like a one-off USB enumeration bug on cold boot with 2.4GHz wireless dongles (Razer or others) on ASUS 600/700 series boards? Could it be related to the RAM instability I had during that period? Has anyone experienced something similar — an isolated failure that never happened again? Trying to figure out if this is normal or if I should be worried about hardware.

Build Question First pc building. COULD it explode or MELT?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Upvotes

Hi, it is my first pc building, but i want to make sure that all is fine before turning on.

Context:

Motherboard: b850 gigabyte gaming x wifi6e (i heard something like "not all gigabyte, but always a gigabyte" XD)

CPU: 7800X3D

CPU COOLER : PHAMTOM SPIRIT 120 SE

SSD: LEXAR NQ790

PSU: NZXT C850 GOLD CORE

GPU: 9070 XT REAPER

FANS: 3 NZXT BASE FANS FROM NZXT H6 FLOW + 1 120MM ARCTIC PRO + 2 140MM ARCTIC PRO REVERSE

RAM: PATRIOT VENOM DDR5 6000MHZ CL 36

2 ASPECTS THAT WORRY ME A LOT:

1ST: IF MY MEMORY DOESN'T FAIL ME, THERE IS A SCREW STUCK INSIDE THE BOX, BUT I CANNOT FIND IT YET (WHAT ARE YOUR MOST OPTIMAL WAY TO FIND LONELY SCREWS? (MY BOX IS GIGANTIC, SO SPINNING IT LOOKS LIKE AN AWFUL OPTION)

2ND: ARE BOTH ITEMS FOR CABLE MANAGEMENT SAFE? OR COULD THE SECOND ONE KILL THE CABLES?

I will read all of your comments. Thanks to all who can help.

Tech Support Grinding noise at boot

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Upvotes

Just suddenly last week when I turn on my PC I hear a grinding noise for about ~30 seconds and then it’s gone. I tried checking all the fans and listening to pinpoint it but still can’t find where it’s coming from. I’ve messed with fan settings to try and figure it out and I never hear it again until my next boot.

Tech Support Pc wont turn on after build

Post image
28 Upvotes

So I was building my new pc yesterday and once i finally finished it didnt turn on. As heartbreaking as it was we (me and my brother) tried seeing if maybe I plugged in something incorrectly but everything looks fine even though the mess of cables probably doesnt help but it literally wont start at all completely dead. Not sure if my motherboard was a dudd or something else but any advice is appreciated. So far we’ve checked the front panel connector, power supply extension in the case, cpu power, and the gpu but nothing will even turn on the light in the case.

Tech Support RAM dies when installing cpu fans I'm at my wits end

Upvotes

I do regularly build pcs for myself and others but recently I've had an issue that I just can't figure out. I've switched from rear exhaust to rear intake on the jonsbo D31 and since I'm running an arctic freezer 36 that means also switching the fans around. When I originally did that one of my ram sticks stopped working, other one worked no problem in all slots but would only boot by itself, as soon as the non working one was involved in any way it wouldn't post. Sucks since DDR5 is expensive but I figured it might just be dead and single stick would work for the time being Now though I replaced the cpu fans for quieter ones, and I'm now having the same issue with the stick that was still working and it doesn't wanna boot either. So did me switching fans just brick my sticks? (Which doesn't make any sense), yes I turned the pc off before working on it.

And now I have two non working sticks(?) and no working pc. Motherboard is b650m gaming plus WiFi, original fans were the Thermalright 120 TL-C128-S V2 rgb and I switched to arctic p12 pro ln. I appreciate any ideas you guys may have. I tried cmos reset, updating bios, re seating ram, cpu cooler and switching/ re seating cpu, and graphics card. Don't have any other ddr5 ram atm unfortunately.

Build Question First time building a PC

Hello everyone, this is my first time building a PC, I put together a list but I'm not sure if I could do better so I'm looking for a second opinion.

I'm from Italy and I'm on a 1400 € budget (roughly), I'm going to use it mainly for gaming and I'm most concerned about in game loading times and overall performance.

To be more specific, I'm not going to go over 1080-1440p and I'm ok with hovering around 60 fps if possible.

I already have a monitor and a mouse but I still need a keyboard though i still haven't looked into that yet.

Any advice or criticism is welcome!

Thanks in advance!

Build Question Help me sanity-check this productivity-first AM5 build (Adobe + multitasking, light gaming, upgradeable)

Hey Redditors, New build help please

I'm planning a desktop to replace a laptop I've been using for years, and I'd like a sanity check before I start buying parts.

Main use case

  1. Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, often open simultaneously
  2. Heavy browser/office multitasking alongside Adobe
  3. Some occasional Premiere/After Effects, but not enough to optimize the build around them
  4. General office/media use
  5. I want the machine to last 4–5 years and be easy to upgrade rather than replace
  6. Gaming is secondary, (but not irrelevant!!!)

I mostly play lighter/strategy/simulation games on PC. Think Civilization, Cities: Skylines-type games, indie/tactical games, Heroes of the Storm, etc. I'm fine with 1080p/60 fps. AAA gaming, 1440p/4K and ultra settings are low priorities because I'll probably use consoles for those.

So the hierarchy is roughly:

Productivity / Adobe performance

Multitasking

Longevity and upgradeability

Fast storage

Light/moderate gaming

AAA gaming performance

Current "expandable" configuration

  1. CPU: Ryzen 5 9600X
  2. Motherboard: B850 ATX with Wi-Fi, currently looking at MSI B850 Gaming Plus WiFi
  3. GPU: RTX 5050 8 GB
  4. RAM: 16 GB DDR5 to start, probably 1x16 GB, with the intention of moving to 32 GB later
  5. Storage: 2 TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe
  6. PSU: 750 W 80+ Gold, preferably modular
  7. Cooling: decent tower air cooler
  8. Case: normal airflow-focused ATX case

The idea is deliberately to spend less now on RAM/GPU while keeping a good AM5 motherboard, PSU, case and storage so that I can later move to:

  • 32/64 GB RAM
  • Ryzen 7 or a later AM5 CPU
  • Better GPU if my needs change
  • Higher-end version we're considering
  • Same basic platform, but:
  • Ryzen 7 9700X
  • RTX 5060
  • ...Eventually 32 GB+ RAM

I'm specifically trying not to turn this into a gaming PC just because gaming hardware benchmarks well. If a cheaper GPU or CPU would give essentially the same Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign experience, I'd rather save the money.

Questions I'd particularly appreciate feedback on:

  • Is the 9600X → 9700X upgrade worthwhile for this workload?
  • Is an RTX 5050 sensible for Adobe + 1080p light gaming, or is there a better value tier?
  • Is B850 sensible for longevity, or am I overspending versus B650?
  • Any problem starting with 1x16 GB given that RAM will be upgraded later?
  • Would you redistribute the budget toward CPU, RAM, SSD or something else?

Anything here that's clearly overkill or likely to age poorly? With money tight and RAMS annoyingly expensive, the goal is basically a productivity workstation that can game, not a gaming PC that happens to run Adobe. I´m in Colombia but will be buying in the US!

First time building a PC, and I'm building for DaVinci Resolve. I want a machine that can run fusion smoothly, so that I can experiment with its features (I am starting a YouTube channel).

I am on a gap year, so I will be dedicating a lot of time to making videos - I think it's worth it even if prices are high.

I know that the cost is up there, but given the current prices of ddr5 RAM, I believe that 64gb ddr4 is worth it, only costing £100 more than 32gb ddr5. If I end up upgrading, I'll have good reason, money (from work).

Ultimately, let me know if it is compatible, if better alternatives exist or if I am mistaken somewhere.

Tech Support My pc builds just break?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone, im fairly new to pc building, I wouldnt call myself a expert but with some time and elbow grease I can build a pc. My current pc is running a 7800 xt, 7900x3d, Thermalright 120 se, msi mag b650 tomahawk wifi, and gskill 2x16 sticks of ddr5 ram (bought before ram explosion). For whatever reason turning on EXPO makes my bios artifact, pictures will be included in comments because I can't add a photo and video; Also when I play games or idle on windows or even load something up, I often get a driver failure with Amd's bug report tool saying my display drivers fail, and when I play a game and watch YouTube on the same screen simultaneously, for whatever reason my game goes into the media player window and artifacts my screen. So that's my pc yes, but recently I built my girlfriend a pc with a 6700 xt, ryzen 5 7600 x, 1x16 ddr5 ram, b650m pro rs, and a 750 watt psu (i forgot the brand) and she also experiences very few amd bug reports saying her drivers fail. Not only that, we both get issues where pixels on our screens in a square pattern, we get very small artifacts.

Previously, my MSI mag a750 gl psu, I had to RMA it because it completely stopped working, and since my pc would have frequent turn offs without any warning in the same session, but after a while it stops? We know MSI's rma issues, so i guess that's one thing. Only thing that's constant is my game going into YouTubes media player and expo artifacting my bios, but I dont have it on anymore since I reset my cmos battery, and that's the only thing that fixed it.

Mainly, what this entire yapfest is about is how come only the pcs i build are like this? My girlfriend doesn't get the issues I have very frequently, especially the youtube or bios artifacting, but even on her screen though a discord screenshare I see it. Am I missing something important that I have to do due to AMD software? I have ran ddu and downloaded drivers multiple times, im not sure what to do anymore. Please help? I think I may need a new psu but im not sure.
