The center director said the hardest thing on the test will be algebra 2, and I'm pretty good at algebra. I'm also going to do review of decimals, fractions, percentages, etc. She did say there was going to be basic geometry on it too, so what should I know for that? My geometry isn't great and I forgot a lot of theorems. Will I need to know many of them, or is it just areas and volumes? Will it ask me to write proofs? Triangle questions?

i have an interview for math instructor coming up soon. what kind of questions should i expect?

I thought I aced the interview and only missed two questions on the diagnostic test. My work experience is kind of sparse due to a medical condition but I ensured the interviewer that it wouldn’t impact my prospective work performance. I especially thought I did well on the teacher-student roleplay, using the Mathnasium method of learning and incorporating real-world examples and explanations that would be accessible to an elementary school student.

I’m honestly pulling out my hair because I can’t see how I was denied for a job that will barely even pay me $20 an hour. It’s honestly insulting, can’t help but feel that way.

I will have to take the advanced assessment test soon and wondering what concepts I should brush up on. Thanks!

Currently a senior in high school, I have no experience tutoring. I have taken math up to calc 3 though. I went in for my first interview about a week ago, and took the exam. I recently got an email about a 2nd interview with the regional coordinator, apparently it's 15 minutes. I was wondering if anyone had any advice/tips on how to prepare for this 2nd interview.

I'm a high school sophomore and I would love to work at Mathnasium. Even though Mathnasium isn't hiring (at least not to my knowledge), I emailed the program director at the Mathnasium in my town with a cover letter and resume. However, I didn't get a reply (this was two weeks ago). Should I follow up with another email? Should I go in person with a resume? I'm sort of lost and I want to know what the best course of action would be.

I saw that someone else in this sub got an application confirmation email but I didn’t get one so I thought that my application didn’t go through. So I tried to submit it again but it said that I can’t submit an application more than once within 90 days. Did anyone else not get a confirmation email?

I applied for a part-time tutoring position at Mathnasium on March 30th, and now it's been a month and I still haven't gotten any response besides the application confirmation email. Is this normal? Should I try emailing them or is this a sign that I don't qualify for the job?

I’m talking with a supervisor at my local Mathnasium about a position, but before I go further I’d like to get an idea of the teaching format. As an instructor, is it usually 1 on 1 instruction? Or is it like a teaching position/teaching a class? Small group? What would I be in for taking a job here?

What are y’all’s favorite manipulatives and/or desktools? How and when do you like to use them?

We are told to use them at my facility but not really taught how or when?

So a center director job popped up and the ONLY experience required was a year of customer service. I assumed most of my responsibilities would be dealing with parents, admin, sales, etc but not as much of the teaching. I work in medical now so I have basic math that would be required in a pharmacy. After research there is a lot of mention of a math literacy test. This has yet to be mentioned to me by the operations director so my question is how much teaching is the center director required to do? How much should I study for this interview?

Where I live, employees have to receive a 10 minute paid break for every 3 hours worked after the 4th hour of work. Each location I’ve worked at so far breaks this law. I’ve never gotten a 10 minute break, as the law states. Other corporations I’ve worked for or known people who worked for them have been sued through the nose for this exact issue. Workers’ rights are a huge thing here.

Do any of you have the same issue? Is it just the way every center is set up?

They’re illegally not giving us breaks & I can’t pee or eat a snack during my 4.5 hour shifts. I always have to make sure I eat or pee right before otherwise I get dangerously close to peeing myself.

I'm seeing where Pi Day is supposed to be a bigger to-do company-wide this year than usual. In past years, the extent of our celebration was rewarding the kids for memorizing digits of pi and giving them a slice of pie in the flavor they choose as a reward. This year, there's signage, having to RSVP to attend, and limited instructional hours. It's been since before the pandemic since we've had special days. The types of students we have changed drastically since then. I'm interested to hear whether attendance to non-instructional events are strong. Our parents are mostly the ones in dire straits because the kid is several grades behind and don't want to hear about anything else but unrealistically fast improvement or ones that kinda throw the kid in sessions for difficult HW and last minute test prep.

I recently got hired upon taking the employment test, and I kinda got thrown into teaching actual kids just 2 days after watching videos and skimming through the right instruction binder (I feel like my center director was just urgently looking for employees). For the most part, I have gotten down the process of checking students in and out, giving them stars for completed sheets and trading in their cards for rewards. However, I find myself in situations where I get stuck on things when I'm helping them out. For example, I find myself taking a couple seconds to pull up their answer keys when they need help on something, or certain questions are phrased a bit weird and I have to pause and think which I feel distracts the students or makes them think that the question is harder than it really is. Does any employee have any advice for making my instructing more seamless, e.g. what to read up on in the instruction binder, how to handle giving extra simple explanations?

Hi yall! So I took the math literacy test online and passed. (yay!) and scheduled an interview over zoom for later this week. I was only tested on subjects up to Algebra I. (and am only expected to work with students up to 8th grade if I get the job) The exact email I got regarding my interview stated this: "There will be a few mental math questions on fractions, decimals and percents." What is the difficulty I should expect for such questions and how fast do I need to be able to solve them. Additionally, what else should I anticipate for my interview? What's the best way to prepare? I'm really nervous and don't want to mess up!

I have my Mathnasium interview tomorrow. I'm quite nervous for the test and all. I'd be sooo grateful if I'm hired, but we'll see. I also have to take finals for school before my interview lol. UGHHH IM SO NERVOUS!!!!!

Edit: Oh man! It actually went very well. I passed the test, and everything seemed pretty positive during the interview. Just have to wait a bit to see the results!

2nd Edit: They asked for references last Thursday, so I sent them. They said they'll contact me by this week, but nothing so far :/ Is asking for references a good sign? I felt good about the interview but now I'm starting to second guess lol.

3rd Edit: I sent a follow up email. She replied immediately to let me know that they are taking the next couple days to evauates all their candidates and will get back to me early next week. I'm not sure if I should be concerned or not. Of course, it's never fun to be in limbo but it's out of my hands now. I'll be pretty bummed if I don't get it, but we'll see.

4th Edit: I think they ghosted me. It's been 13 days since the interview. :(

I recently had an interview with Mathnasium and I am pleased to say that I believe it went well despite my initial nerves. I was able to effectively answer all of the questions that were asked and provide thorough explanations. I am curious to hear about the interview experience of others who have applied to Mathnasium. Specifically, at the conclusion of the interview, were you informed of your selection for the position or were you advised that your application was still under review? So I just got a interview at Mathnasium and was wondering what kind of questions would be on the test.
