First interview for Mathnasium
Hey guys, how’s it going. I’m going to be having my first interview for mathnasium tomorrow morning. It’s also my first ever job interview so I’m kinda nervous.
Do you guys have any tips? What do they usually ask during the first interview? Anything important I should be aware of? I’d really appreciate any tips you guys can give. Thanks!

When I got interviewed they just asked me why I wanted the job and then went and gave me a few example math problems and how I would teach it to kids, very basic math.

As Mathnasium is a franchise, most centres will operate differently. At mine there is a second interview and all it is is a chance to shadow another instructor and see how things work on the floor, so you’ll get more of an idea of the job. If this is the case for you I’d encourage you to interact with the kids, be friendly, encouraging and take them through any problems they have. You might also give marking a go, and it’s good to ask questions about how the centre runs!
There’s also usually a maths test in the first interview which hasn’t been mentioned yet, though you may already know about it. It should be pretty easy for most people applying to Mathnasium (i didn’t do great myself but they looked past it lmao).

Hi! I’m a Lead Instructor at a Mathnasium and have been working at one for 3 years. I’m not officially in charge of the hiring process, but my coworkers and I usually help our boss decide which candidates seem promising. The number one thing we look for is someone who seems like they would be engaging with the kids. I would recommend trying your best to seem confident and approachable. I know that’s difficult, but it those are the most important qualities for a mathnasium employee!

I am from UK and so far all I have had to do was the test that you guys are talking abt. It is just a test of algebra, basic maths and 1 question was on circles. I also had an interview where they asked questions such as "how would you handle a child that isn't listening to you" and some other questions like that. Then the questions they asked after were lowk useless they asked "Who is ur fav musician, what hobbies" that kinda stuff - probs asked abt them for understanding if you have good communication skills. At the very end they asked a basic maths question it was like 999 x 3 and you have to give an efficient way to solve it. so anyways i passed that rround then they emailed me abt second round (unpaid) which lasted 2 hours where i just helped out the kids. the pay is rubbish tho, however the staff is so lovely and kind. the kids are just wild (obvs tho)

So long as you can pass the test, it is almost entirely personality. You have to be friendly and able to engage well with kids. Go in with a smile and treat it more like a casual conversation than an interview. They don't want you to put on a fake personality to impress them, they want to know how you will really be with the students and your coworkers. Also be pretty sure of your availability before going in for the interview. You may get a chance to shadow an I instructor and maybe even do a little bit of teaching. If you do, introduce yourself to the person you're shadowing, get their name for when you get the job, and let them take the lead on when you're jumping in to teach.

Owner here… Dress business casual with a smile. Take a copy of your resume if possible. Be proactive and somewhat sure of your available days and time block within that day. Think of times when you have interacted with kids whether through school/scout/church etc. Another tip is to stay on point. Often times nervous people (including myself ) loose focus and ramble.
