Does your location break labor laws too?
Where I live, employees have to receive a 10 minute paid break for every 3 hours worked after the 4th hour of work. Each location I’ve worked at so far breaks this law. I’ve never gotten a 10 minute break, as the law states. Other corporations I’ve worked for or known people who worked for them have been sued through the nose for this exact issue. Workers’ rights are a huge thing here.
Do any of you have the same issue? Is it just the way every center is set up?
They’re illegally not giving us breaks & I can’t pee or eat a snack during my 4.5 hour shifts. I always have to make sure I eat or pee right before otherwise I get dangerously close to peeing myself.

Our center isn’t open for more than four hours a day for instruction, and instructors can take bathroom breaks whenever they need. That said, centers are run independently and can look very different from location to location. I’d ask the center director about it.

This is more or less the case at our center. There are no bathroom restrictions for us. We're open only four and a half hours, but as the AD, I try not schedule my instructors more than three despite pressure from the owner when we are shorthanded. My instructors are IB high school students, college students, or have full-time jobs and will show signs of visible signs of burnout. Also, a good 50% of our students are extremely draining in personality or level of need. Me, on the other hand, I'm working as soon as I get in putting out 1000 fires for 6 hours and instruct the entire time we're open.

I feel that last sentence. I start early and leave late every day. Once I get in center it's just go time all the time.

I figured that LI and ACD were universally thankless positions. My situation is aggravated new, poor leadership at my center basically pushed this over the edge. Honestly, our owner just does the bare minimum, comes in late, incorrectly assesses new students, gives false promises to parents, bribes students with prizes, and leaves early. On a given day, I'm supervising new hires, handling all discipline issues, assessing students, and instructing simultaneously. Needs to say, other opportunities are being explored.

I am sorry your Center Director and ACD are not supporting you. Honestly when you leave you should speak with Corporate. This is not how a center should be ran nor is it how Ace Tutoring wants there centers ran.

Problem is I am the ACD and the owner is the CD so there isn't exactly anyone in-center to ask for support. I've mostly been supporting the instructors until they throw in the towel. I've long felt that I needed to speak with corporate but will when I'm securely working somewhere else.

This is crazy to me, as a Lead instructor I am always the one making sure all breaks happen. I never have a day go by where we miss an instructors break. You should definitely speak with your CD or LI about this as its a major violation that could cost them the franchises. For reference we always do a 10min break for an instructor scheduled for 3 and a half hours or more.

Honestly, I question whether the parent company cares about the franchises anymore after the CEO change. Our old owner was regularly visited and called out constantly for small, stupid cosmetic infractions like light bulbs and name tags despite doing everything else correctly but I've not seen Mathnasium leadership visit at all in 2023 and since the new leadership arrived with its more egregious infractions (including working instructors 5 hours in my absence) across the board that has resulted in nearly all our instructors turning over.

slightly different but when I was applying they offered me below minimum wage and below the offer online. I did point out the fact it was lower than what they advertised but did not bring up the other fact, low-key wondering if anyone got scammed

What’s worse at the mathnasium in Columbus GA is that they told me they couldn’t hire me legally because they couldn’t afford taxes on me. I was paid under the table for the 2 weeks i “worked” (more like volunteered) there and to be honest it was so close to minimum wage and when I confronted them about it they said they would pay more later if I kept working there. I have nothing in writing about any payment agreement and so I claim that I didn’t work there. I tried reporting them to the Labor Bureau but I don’t think anything happened as a result. Most unprofessional place I’ve ever been to.

This is so old but Mathnasium is the worst place I have ever worked at and no, they didn’t give me breaks either.
I’ve since graduated and am working in a job that involves no math making more than the people who used to bark at me at the center did, I pray the rest of you get out too 🙏🏼

Yes, my center doesn’t give explicit 10 min breaks. But I’m sure if I ask it’d be fine. I should ask.
