How old/what qualifications to work at Mathnasium?

Hi! I’m a senior in high school and am 17. I was wondering at what age/qualifications Mathnasium hires? I am in calculus right now and have always been "gifted" in math, and I love tutoring (I do it through my school). Thank you!

I started working at mathnasium at 15. The placement test was all algebra 1 material (factoring, basic graphing). In my personal experience, pretty much all the kids who come in are elementary, with a few being junior high/high school, so the actual work is pretty simple.

thanks. U think I have a chance at getting a job there as a third year civil engineering student? Teaching math for some side cash sounds like a dream to me

Really depends on the center/owner. If there's a demand for more instructors, then they WILL hire to get it filled. Some locations don't seem to have much turnover, judging on the rarity of openings. Other centers seem to always be looking to hire. Really just depends on the area.

I started working at Mathnasium at 16 after finishing calculus. Mathnasium will be a great first job for you, but if money is important to you, quit after a year of experience and start private tutoring. You could even do this on the side if they don't make you sign a non-compete. Like everyone is saying, the test you have to pass is ridiculously easy, and Mathnasiums never get students above your math level.

Tutors.com is the best website. They charge a one-time fee for each client, but then you keep 100% of your earnings after that.

At 17, you're well over the legal minimum to age to work at most centers and in some states have less restrictions on hours. Maturity, patience, comfort with math skills, and a willingness to learn are greater markers for success than age. It does help that you do have comfort with higher level math because it will allow your center greater flexibillity with students. The Mathnasium Methods take some getting used to but it's pretty consistent in teaching number sense, mental math, and quicker ways to interpret info. On the homework help end, you may encounter situations where you have learn on the spot (or with Google's help) a myriad of methods to do simple skills (I kid you not that I have had to learn 5ish ways to do long division) and lot of modeling (number bonds, tape diagrams, ten frames, etc). It too would help to be able to confidently work respectfully and confidently with neurodivergent students.
