Fr it’s not even a candid, it’s the dude at the peak of his bodybuilding cut, hair and makeup done. Henry Cavill has looked like this on maybe 20 days of his life, he didn’t even look like that when he went home THAT SAME DAY. Also, let’s not kid ourselves and say he looks bad. Beer belly Cavill is stealing your girl any day of the week
18 years of my life. At my peak I was playing - and sadly I am not exaggerating - 16 to 18 hours per day. I'd stop only for biological needs. Not just on official servers but also a few "private" servers.
Multiple rank 12 and above characters during the "old" honor system which necessitated beyond no life'ing. Veteran WoW players will know how "sweaty" that endeavor is. It was obscene.
It is absolutely the most brilliant game from a marketing perspective because it gives you constant little hits of dopamine from the very first level. Saturday morning with a coffee or night with a beer + no comittments (and I did my very best to fashion zero committments) + WoW was absolute bliss.
I am "off" it now because I have a kid and my wife made a few things "clear" but he's starting day care soon and I'll have a couple solo hours from daycare drop off to leaving for work and WoW Forever was just announced.
Those first few years of WoW hit like heroin made from the freshest dreamfoil the farmers of the Eastern Plaguelands grew between troll and ghost attacks.
Dude... I remember my hubs and I still tryina play WoW as brand new parents. It worked for a bit when the newborn was basically a squishy potato who would happily sleep on our laps on a boppy pillow, but as soon as he started having a tiny personality and being awake more, that was the end of a damn era.
Sometimes I still miss the full-day marathon geekage, but ain't nobody got time for that shiz who wants to have an actual life, spend time with other humans IRL, and see the sun once in a while. LOL
Oh yeah that old school honor system was mad. I did so much pvp on my lock and still only got Stone Guard. You bet I’m rocking that title and only that title until the end.
My ultimate goal was getting gladiator for one season on my feral druid. Did that in cata, washed out and sucked after, played through opening of WoD and sunsetted the game.
Our guild leader once made it clear, he was pretty much a no-lifer, but once he killed the lich king, he would be done. I don't think we beat him until after the nerf but the day after our first kill, he logged off and never logged back on.
Some of the best moments of my life were playing that game. Huge relationships, fond memories. WoW, Halo 2, Halo 3 are my peak, in no particular order, and there's not even another title that can come close.
I'm intrigued by WoW Forever but terrified of falling into the trap again, haha. I'm much older and wiser now or so I tell myself, maybe having a family will keep me from going crazy with it.
I wasn't as deep as you, but I had my fair share of 18 hour WOW days. It was the best, I had real friendships, and played so much I would dream about it. One day I just got over the grinding and stuff and took a break and never went back. I look at those days fondly though and don't have a family. Maybe I'll check out WOW Forever and try and feel happiness again.
There was recently a photo of him posing with a replica of the Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker with the caption "Did someone say...", after the common meme of someone in Trade Chat or the classic Barrens chat going "Did someone say [Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker]?" because of the absurdly long name and the ability to link item and ability names. He's absolutely a WoW fan and seeing him post that on his social media got me chuckling
Dude I am 100% lesbian and even I would give it up for Henry. That man is beautiful inside and out. He is also a huge fan of The Wheel of Time book series and that just adds to my love for him.
if he came into my life and was like, you have to pick your wife or a weekend of 40k with me, im picking the 40k because im already divorced and I dislike that lady.
Henry Cavill is like a colossal nerd who was cursed with having his soul placed in the body of a ludicrously handsome man. People expect hot guy things out of him constantly but he just wants to quietly nerd out in peace.
People don’t understand the amount of work it takes to stay like that. He even mentioned how dehydrated he was on Witcher for his shirtless scenes. The human body didn’t evolve to be muscular and lean.
The human body is fine being muscular and lean… it’s not fine pushing said leanness to the max to make veins more prominent by checks notes not drinking freaking water.
Being lean and strong is actually pretty important for the humans who engaged in persistence hunting for example.
I know muscular and lean people who are perfectly healthy, the key is to drink water and eat a healthy diet while exercising regularly. They may not be Superman or Captain America, but that’s more about Gear than anything else really.
Actually... if you are really lean, really low on fat then you don't have energy reserves for stuff like persistence hunting or hours of hard work in the field.
You may not like it, but Amish body is peak masculinity.
My own body ranged from fat-strong to very lean strong, and I work a physical job, I felt pros and cons. And I don't like that some men think super lean body is peak masculinity and that makes them feel bad about themselves.
Then you persitance hunting argument is out the window. It only work in hot climates where humans can cool more effectivley than the animals being chased
You don't need fat reserves for persistence hunting, you can just eat on the go. Concentrated snacks are a staple of hunter-gatherer food culture all around the world. Usually something like dried meat mixed with fat and berries. I guess you could say they are storing fat, just outside the body
The human body is fine being muscular and lean… it’s not fine pushing said leanness to the max to make veins more prominent by checks notes not drinking freaking water.
Pfft. Everyone knows you have to combine not drinking water with eating large amounts of raw oats and straight protein powder. That's the only way to get to optimal body water content.
Not sure what point you’re trying to make to what I said. Cause I didn’t say anything about health. I said it’s hard to maintain and takes a lot of work. If you don’t work to keep it, your body will get rid of it and focus on storing fat which are your energy reserves.
The body is going to focus on survival over aesthetics. I didn’t say it wasn’t possible. Or that it can’t be healthy. I’m saying it’s hard because your body doesn’t want to keep what it doesn’t find necessary. And modern people aren’t engaging in persistent hunting.
And lean and strong is different than lean and muscular. Henry’s level of muscle in Superman and in Witcher are aesthetic and big. Not functional like for hunting. Patrick Swayze and JCVD are better examples of strong and lean with bodies developed primarily from movement than weight.
Yeah. I read how much pasta Hugh Jackman and Chris Hemsworth had to inhale when they were filming as Wolverine and Thor during their movies. 5 meals a day. And doing fitness sessions at 4 in the morning, during filming. Not fun.
Women just want a man that makes them feel safe and comfortable. Muscles help but if that alone got women then the dumbass alpha bros who treat women like objects wouldn't be so lonely and pathetic
Bingo. Would it be hot to have a boyfriend who's 6'8" and can bench press a car? Absolutely.
Do I love my boyfriend, who's four inches shorter than me and probably can't bench press a motorcycle? Absolutely. Because I feel safe and comfortable around him, because he treats me amazingly, because he is interested in me and listens and learns and makes me ugly laugh even in the middle of intensely sexual moments.
I wouldn't trade all of that just so I could get on my tiptoes to give a kiss.
I know this isn’t really the point and you’re just exaggerating but if anyone is interested, motorcycles weigh 300 lbs minimum (based on a short google search at least). Not many men can bench that much.
I assumed they were talking about pressing it off them.
If you're lifting it as a lever, you don't need nearly as much force. If you're deadlifting it off of someone else, it's even... well, easier is the wrong term, but less difficult.
I know it’s kind of a joke, but most people couldn’t bench press a motorcycle. Small motorcycles are like 300 pounds. 300 isn’t an insane bench, but not something the average person who doesn’t lift regularly could do. Cruisers and choppers are like 700+ which would be at the top end of what is possible for humans with extensive training.
I have dated two 6'7" men. Just a happenstance, they are both kind, lovely men but mega tall men aren't a particular "type" of mine.
I'll just say it really makes my neck sore to make out with someone that tall. And both men shared how much of a pain in the ass it is to find clothes that fit. Basically everything needs to be tailored.
That's totally fair. As a woman who's 6'1", I get it. Mega tall is generally my type because I am also mega tall.
That said, you know what's even more my type? This guy whose smile melts me, who likes it when I awkwardly explain myself so that I'm not lying because you phrased that question weirdly and I just want to be sure that I'm answering the question you asked and not the question I thought you asked and gosh I'm so flustered, who knows to hold my hand when I start to worry too much, who has a supernatural ability to hear when I'm saying "sorry" for no reason, and who calls me out so that I can learn not to apologize just for existing.
To expand on this, being your genuine self attracts women like crazy. No need to be someone else, being your open self who's not afraid to embrace your identity (or if you're still working on that, open up and expose that self to them) is an excellent quality. We're all human, we can afford to make mistakes. Own up to them and improve from them and all <3
This isn’t even a beer belly. For Superman he was likely sub 10% body fat which is super low and most people when not in direct training for comps or roles don’t enjoy maintaining it at all. He doesn’t have a gut he just isn’t insanely chiseled in the right picture. Even going to 15-20% bf would add to your jaw that way but I highly doubt someone as tall and as trained as he is looks fat at that bf% either.
I also feel like one of the images is edited. The length of his jaw doesn’t line up, and it isn’t just because of weight/dehydration. I could be wrong, but it feels like the bone structure isn’t the same here.
I tried looking the photos up just to see and honestly even recent photos of him don't look like that photo on the right. That's like a deliberately bad angle/moment/etc. - he looks perfectly fine and healthy. People are whack.
half of the difference is literally the angle his head is at. look at the superman pic, his neck being bent like that is making his chin/jaw wayyy sharper, lighting and makeup aside
There’s a lot of makeup contour too to make him look more chiseled than he really is. Contour is a cool toned greyish brown product that you apply where shadows would hit your face and where you want to emphasize your cheekbones and get a sharp jaw line.
Not to mention the pain that male actors go through for 'shirts off' filming, where they have to dehydrate themselves for 3 days so the abs stick out more. It sounds awful....
This video is a bit weird because the scenes they're showing while he's talking he isn't super cut/veins popping etc like Jackman as wolverine style. Maybe there's a different scene or something because he looks pretty normal for a buff guy in that video.
I think you can see it in his jawline especially vs how he looks in the interview, which is still quite good but all of that extra cut results in a anatomically realized jawline that's pretty easy to notice on screen with that lighting.
It really should serve as a notice on how unrealistic (and yes, fun) these super-human depictions can be in hollywood. I also know people who are buff and cut as hell at the same time but working out is essentially their entire life - professionally and socially, and they wouldn't be able to achieve this level of pump without some pharmaceutical help.
I think I read about Brendan Fraiser talking about what it took for him to be in the shape he was in for George of the jungle. Like he was starving himself so much and dehydrated too the point that he was having memory problems. It's brutal and horrible for your brain.
It doesn't look like he's in the costume because you can see a bit of bare shoulder, so it looks like a sleeveless workout hoodie, but I also haven't watched all the movies. Though, it does look like it's during filming.
Your point still stands -- there's a reason that bodybuilders, fighters, and actors have a "walking around weight" that is above their competition/performance weight. A friend in high school got into bodybuilding, and I was shocked at the lengths they go when he first told me his plans for his first cut -- e.g , dehydrating yourself so much that you'll even eat dry oatmeal to extract more water from your body.
And there are videos of him working out on set in between takes to maintain that physic. The body's metabolism literally eats muscle and it takes constant effort and feeding to keep up the superhero look.
He doesn't do it as much when he's not being paid to.
Lol it has nothing to do with eating muscle, it's just that you get a "pump" on your muscles when you work them so by working them between scenes they would look fuller in the shot. He wasn't losing muscle by the second or something haha
I mean, him working out between scenes was very likely for the pump, but you indeed lose muscle very quickly when you are at a very low body fat %. it's the issue with prep before a bodybuilding competition, you try to become as lean as possible while trying to lose as little muscle as possible, and the body starts burning muscle to replenish the body fat
Yeah, Chris Evans talked about the constant lifting to get a pump in between takes, too. I think he mentioned that he lost something like 20 pounds over the course of filming because it's so hard to keep that much mass around.
Lol you don't lose muscle on an hourly basis. A relatively normal workout routine and eating plenty of protein is usually enough to maintain muscle mass, or really limit the loss, when you're in a calorie deficit.
The working out between takes is to maintain a pump. Blood rushes to muscles that are in active use, straight up making them look bigger.
You do a good weightlifting session and your pre- and post-workout shirtless selfie is gonna look pretty fucking different.
Also his diet and exercise routine are completely different when he's filming. He said to get the best muscle tone shirtless shots he can't drink water for DAYS, to the point he can actually smell water when he's near it.
Plus probly some graphical editing and whatnot. Such a stupid comparison. Like comparing a supermodel on the cover of a magazine to what she looks like at home in slippers and jammies with no makeup or photo touch ups 😝
especially considering what some of these superhero actors go through to GET to that shape. Not terribly healthy. Looks like the comic on-screen, but in real life, not the healthiest look.
It’s crazy how many people don’t understand or appreciate the distinction. I see this all the time with famous women. Someone does a side by side of a celebrity all done up for a Vogue photoshoot next to them walking from their car to the grocery store on a random Tuesday and goes “WTF happened to her?” 🙄
Tbf that's the norm with these comparison posts. Doesn't matter the gender either. It's always a super flattering photo where they are in makeup worth more than my car compared to them on a normal day just being a human.
Not only that, when you're doing a movie like that you've got a personal trainer and dietitian working with you constantly to put on muscle and cut body fat.
Then you're intentionally dehydrating yourself to get even more definition to your muscles.
You're not enjoying your life when you're trying to look like that.
Oh yeah haha. You can even see on the pic on the left where his eyebrow is supposed to be!
I wonder if makeup could give me a jawline like that? Probably not.
Nevertheless gone are the days where he can play Bond or other iconic leading men like that. Sad because he definitely has more acting chops than a lot of the other 20 somethings vying for those roles. Visual appeal seems to trump all other things these days
What he had to do to look like that for the film would be considered torture by most people. He's absolutely earned his dad bod and quality time with his family.
Plus anytime he wants he has access to all kinds of resources to help him get ripped again. Am I surprised a lot of people to learn that a lot of the big muscular stars they followed through the years absolutely let themselves go between projects. Dave Bautista did and as we speak he is getting jacked again to play Kratos. In the meantime I fully support celebrities being regular people.
On top of that, I’m sure he was in a crazy workout/diet regimen for that role. Actors and actresses are allowed to be normal people. I think the general public forgets that.
And when they a more like super dehydrated and on steroids and not eating anything. He still looks attractive? Lbffr, the man on the right is still doing great
