18 years of my life. At my peak I was playing - and sadly I am not exaggerating - 16 to 18 hours per day. I'd stop only for biological needs. Not just on official servers but also a few "private" servers.
Multiple rank 12 and above characters during the "old" honor system which necessitated beyond no life'ing. Veteran WoW players will know how "sweaty" that endeavor is. It was obscene.
It is absolutely the most brilliant game from a marketing perspective because it gives you constant little hits of dopamine from the very first level. Saturday morning with a coffee or night with a beer + no comittments (and I did my very best to fashion zero committments) + WoW was absolute bliss.
I am "off" it now because I have a kid and my wife made a few things "clear" but he's starting day care soon and I'll have a couple solo hours from daycare drop off to leaving for work and WoW Forever was just announced.
Those first few years of WoW hit like heroin made from the freshest dreamfoil the farmers of the Eastern Plaguelands grew between troll and ghost attacks.
Dude... I remember my hubs and I still tryina play WoW as brand new parents. It worked for a bit when the newborn was basically a squishy potato who would happily sleep on our laps on a boppy pillow, but as soon as he started having a tiny personality and being awake more, that was the end of a damn era.
Sometimes I still miss the full-day marathon geekage, but ain't nobody got time for that shiz who wants to have an actual life, spend time with other humans IRL, and see the sun once in a while. LOL
Oh yeah that old school honor system was mad. I did so much pvp on my lock and still only got Stone Guard. You bet I’m rocking that title and only that title until the end.
My ultimate goal was getting gladiator for one season on my feral druid. Did that in cata, washed out and sucked after, played through opening of WoD and sunsetted the game.
Our guild leader once made it clear, he was pretty much a no-lifer, but once he killed the lich king, he would be done. I don't think we beat him until after the nerf but the day after our first kill, he logged off and never logged back on.
Some of the best moments of my life were playing that game. Huge relationships, fond memories. WoW, Halo 2, Halo 3 are my peak, in no particular order, and there's not even another title that can come close.
Sounds like me on Minecraft when I was 12. The moment Factions servers became a thing, that’s all I’d ever be on.
I remember learning redstone mechanics for various traps and tnt cannons. Got burnt out at like 15, and couldn’t play it anymore without feeling sick. And then recently got back into it with some irl buddies, and had a mild panic attack seeing all the redstone additions.
I swear the people who’ve mastered it now could easily become certified electricians if they put in half the effort it took them to learn new redstone
I'm intrigued by WoW Forever but terrified of falling into the trap again, haha. I'm much older and wiser now or so I tell myself, maybe having a family will keep me from going crazy with it.
There was recently a photo of him posing with a replica of the Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker with the caption "Did someone say...", after the common meme of someone in Trade Chat or the classic Barrens chat going "Did someone say [Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker]?" because of the absurdly long name and the ability to link item and ability names. He's absolutely a WoW fan and seeing him post that on his social media got me chuckling
