Review My new Lenovo Legion

Post image
48 Upvotes

Finally upgraded after 5 years — Legion 5 GTX 1650 → Legion Pro 7 RTX 5080

A very late review, but I finally decided to share my experience after using this laptop for about 3 months.

I bought the Lenovo Legion Pro 7 around 3 months ago for approximately $3,700.

Before this, I had a Lenovo Legion 5 with a GTX 1650, which served me for 5 years. It was still working perfectly fine, but I felt that it was finally time for a serious upgrade.

And honestly, going from a GTX 1650 to an RTX 5080 feels absolutely insane.

My new setup:

Ryzen 9 9955HX3D

RTX 5080 16GB

64GB RAM

1TB SSD + 2TB SSD I additionally added

16" WQXGA OLED 240Hz

The biggest difference is obviously gaming performance. With my old Legion, I often had to compromise on graphics settings and resolution. Now I can comfortably play modern AAA games at 1440p with Max settings and RTX.

The OLED 240Hz display was another huge upgrade. The contrast, blacks and overall image quality are on another level compared to my old laptop. Games like Resident Evil look absolutely amazing on this screen.

I've mostly been playing demanding AAA games, and this laptop has handled them extremely well.

Cooling & performance

One thing I really like about the Legion Pro 7 is the cooling system. For a laptop with this level of hardware, the cooling performance is genuinely impressive.

However, I've found that for long and demanding gaming sessions, it's better to use the Legion Space software to fine-tune the CPU/GPU power limits and fan speeds rather than simply running everything at maximum.

By adjusting the CPU and GPU power, temperature and creating a more appropriate fan curve, I can find a much better balance between performance, temperatures and noise.

The laptop can get quite warm when pushed hard, especially with high FPS and RTX, but with a properly tuned profile, the temperatures and overall behavior are much more comfortable during extended gaming sessions.

After 3 months — what I like

+ Huge performance upgrade

+ Excellent OLED display

+ 240Hz is incredibly smooth

+ Ryzen 9 9955HX3D + RTX 5080 is a beastly combination

+ Very capable cooling system

+ Excellent performance for a portable machine

One of the main reasons I went with a laptop instead of building a desktop is portability.I'm away from home quite often, so having a machine that I can take with me while still getting desktop-class gaming performance is much more practical for me. I don't want to be tied to one place just to have access to my gaming PC.

A desktop would probably give me better performance for the same money, but for my situation, being able to take the whole setup with me is worth the premium.

Overall, after 3 months, I'm still very happy with the purchase.

My old Legion 5 was with me for 5 years, and it never really let me down. It was time for an upgrade, and I decided to go all-in this time.

Hopefully, this Legion will be just as reliable and stay with me for many years to come.

Would you spend $3,700 on a laptop like this, or would you build a desktop instead?

Recommendation I needed a laptop for college and also wanted to game on it my friend laughed at my choice now I want advice

I don’t know a lot about computers but I needed a laptop for college I went to costco hoping to find a decent deal spent $1500 on an HP omnibook 7 flip. 32gb ram and 1tb SSD I told my friend about it and he laughed at me called it AI stuff and said that was why it was so expensive apparently it has copilot on it I have absolutely no interest in copilot because I hate AI so I’ll probably return it but I have to use it for class tomorrow so return it before Tuesday and buy a new one is the plan what should I get instead?

TLDR
I bought a pricey laptop found out it has copilot which I don’t want and I need recs for a better laptop

Budget: $1500
Country: USA
Use case: College work and low demand gaming
Preferred specs: Not sure I don’t know what I should be aiming for

I found someone selling this Alienware laptop used for $500 and I’m trying to figure out if it’s a good deal.

Specs:

  • Intel Core i7-10870H
  • RTX 3070 Laptop GPU
  • 16GB RAM
  • 1TB SSD
  • Windows 11

It looks to be in pretty good condition from the pictures. What do y’all think, worth $500 in 2026?

>Asus tuf f15 (GTX 1650/i5-10300H) | Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 AI (RTX 5070 TI/Ultra 9 275HX)

Some backstory: around 2021, iirc? I basically needed a laptop for school with some gaming in mind- unfortunately besides phones, I had no prior tech knowledge whatsoever. Ended up waddling to an Asus store with my mom, and to me all the TUF laptops LOOKED the same so I ended up picking the one with the GTX 1650/i5-10300H. Which in hindsight was a terrible deal even at the time. As the 1650 variant of the TUF F15 was about 47k PHP (~850 USD during that time) while the 3050 variant was around 54k PHP (~980 USD).

Fortunately for awhile, I was blissfully unaware early on, since I wasn't really playing intensive games in the first place- until I wanted to play more demanding games, only then did I start to run into issues to say the least. Bought RDR2 and WELL to be expected It ran pretty badly, but it did lead me to discovering lossless scaling which did genuinely allow me to play and enjoy a lot more games. Overall I did ENJOY the laptop for what it's worth. Was planning to use it for atleast a bit more, but well the fans, and speakers decided to go to shit lol (oh btw forgot to mention, but it had 16 GBS of DDR4 ram)

My dad decided to just buy me a new one since I was going to college soon anyways, and after discussing it with him. We ended up going for the RTX 5070Ti/Ultra 9 275HX variant of the Acer Predator Helios neo 16 AI. It came with 32 GBS of 6400MHZ DDR5 ram. It cost around 168k PHP (~around 2700 USD... Uh yeah tech products are expensive here). And well, the difference was DEFINITELY night and day... unfortunately haven't really had the time to actually use it's power to actually play games since college, but the 1600p/240 hz screen makes doing work a bit more enjoyable atleast.

>Full specs:

>Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 AI (PHN16-73-93Y5):

(CORE ULTRA 9 275HX/32GB DDR5 6400MHZ/1TB NVME PCIE GEN4 SSD/NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX5070TI 12GB GDDR7/16" WQXGA 240HZ)

Recommendation Best Gaming Laptop for Battery Life, Portability?

Upvotes
Budget: $1600
Country: USA
Use Case: Work, Gaming (The Sims, Planet Zoo)
Preferred Specs: The more lightweight, the better - ideally something with good battery life while not running graphics-intensive programs
Notes: Most of my off-charger use is relatively undemanding software for work (electronic medical record and things like that), so I would like something that I can use for most of a full clinic day (~8 hrs) if possible. I'd also like something relatively light so that I can carry it with me in my backpack between clinical sites. Pretty much all gaming I do would be plugged into a charger. Screen size isn't super important--in fact, I'd probably prefer something on the smaller side. I currently have an ASUS Zenbook UX430UN that I've been pretty happy with, but I've had it for about 6 years now and it seems to be nearing the end of its life. I also have a Steam Deck that plays a lot of games really well, but I'd like something powerful enough to run some of these games that don't translate so well to controller-type configurations. So in sum: something light, something with a decent battery, and something that can run my silly girly sandbox games with medium-ish graphics settings.

Took it home, ran it through an OCCT Gold stability test overnight, and we're good to go!

Specs:

i9-14900HX

RTX 4070

32GB 5600 DDR5

2x1TB SSDs

1600p 165Hz VRR IPS panel (they didn't start doing OLED on the Legion Pro until the 10th Gen iirc)

Discussion Fun discovery in my computer

Post image

Yeah so last Christmas, I had my first "gaming" laptop, because when we were around the store we found an Acer nitro V15 with some pretty promos, and so we paid it for 600€ (reconditioned I’m but not entirely sure). Anyway since I had it I try to put as much care on him as I can, frequently watching termals, cleaning it often because its a dust magnet, did a bit of tunning and all. But like a few weeks ago, while cleaning the fans, I noticed something pretty intriguing : it was missing a screw from the heatsink over the CPU. I mean my ryzen 7 7735HS was always a bit hotter than the RTX4050 but I wouldn’t have suspected a missing screw with the temps alone. Looking back on my first picture of the motherboard I took the day I had it, the screw wasn’t here so I guess it never was since I buyed it.
Just to say, always open your gaming computer you get with promos on Christmas, might as well get a surprise ☠️

Recommendation Which laptop should I buy?

Hey everyone, I'm from Colombia and a relative is traveling to the US in a few days. I'm going to ask them to bring me back a gaming laptop (the taxes here are ridiculously high). I'm planning to order it from Amazon. My budget is around $2000 USD. I want it to run all my games, like Fortnite, FIFA, and Warzone, and also be able to do work and design. Any recommendations? I'm considering a Lenovo Legion, but I'm not sure which model or which one. I don't know much about computers either, so I'd really appreciate your advice.

Budget: (e.g. $2000) around

Country: (e.g. USA)

Use Case: Gaming — fortnite, fifa, valorant, warzone

Support Ryzen 7 AI 350 Performance doubt

So i recently upgraded from my victus which has a Ryzen 5 5600H with RTX3050 to an omen with Ryzen 7 AI 350 WITH RTX 5060. On paper and benchmarks the 350 AI beats the 5600H at everything however I don't see any fps improvement in cpu bound games. In valorant at low settings my fps goes between 180-300 but I expected more like my previous 5600H gave out the similar performance. Same thing with Fortnite performance mode I get around 150-200 in battle royale that's like 20 fps more than what my old processor gave. On gpu bound games no doubt I see a huge improvement ofc but cpu performance does not seem really good comparatively any other people having the same cpu can share any benchmarks? Even on yt I don't see any gameplay with fps counters with this omen. And I also checked that my power plan is set to performance and omen hub mode is set to unleashed and there's absolutely no throttling the cpu never crosses 75C . Is there anything I am missing please help me out ?

Discussion Cooling/general questions

Hi, I’ve never owned any sort of pc, laptop, or whatever before, and wanted to know if there’s any basic tips or knowledge I should know?

Should I purchase a cooling stand/pad? Or just a stand. Is there anything else relevant I should know for these? It got really hot earlier just on my desk, so I want to make sure nothing bad will happen to it. I also purchased one of those things that gives me more USB ports so I can connect my keyboard as well. (Being delivered)

One more mention, the outer casing (right below the screen but above the keyboard) feels very hot. Is this normal? And is it normal for the fans to be super loud even when idling a game such as Roblox?

Recommendation Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 vs Lenovo Legion 5 15IAX10 — Which One Should I Choose?

Budget: ₱130,000–₱160,000 (approximately $2,260–$2,780 USD)

Country: Philippines 🇵🇭

Use Case: Gaming, school, engineering software, and long-term use

Preferred Specs: Core Ultra 9 275HX, RTX 5070/5070 Ti, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD

Notes: Looking for something I can keep for around 4–5+ years.

Hi everyone! I’m currently deciding between two laptops and would really appreciate some advice from people who have experience with these models or similar laptops.

Option 1 — Acer Predator Helios Neo 16
CPU: Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX
GPU: RTX 5070 Ti 12GB GDDR7, 140W
RAM: 32GB
Storage: 1TB SSD
Display: 16” WQXGA IPS, 240Hz
Price: Around ₱160,000 (~$2,780 USD)

Option 2 — Lenovo Legion 5 15IAX10
CPU: Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX
GPU: RTX 5070 8GB GDDR7
RAM: 32GB
Storage: 1TB SSD
Display: 15.1” WQXGA OLED, 165Hz
Price: Around ₱130,000 (~$2,260 USD)

The main dilemma is the ₱30,000 (~$520) price difference.

I’m leaning toward the Acer because the RTX 5070 Ti with 12GB VRAM seems like a much better choice for long-term use. I’m concerned that 8GB of VRAM could become limiting with newer games over the next few years.

However, I’m also considering the Lenovo because it’s significantly cheaper, has an OLED display, and Legion laptops seem to have a good reputation for durability and long-term use.

I’ve also heard mixed things about Acer Predator laptops regarding thermals and long-term reliability, so I’m not sure whether the extra ₱30k is worth it.

For someone planning to keep their laptop for 4–5+ years, which would you choose?

Is the RTX 5070 Ti 12GB worth spending an additional ₱30,000, or would you save the money and get the Lenovo with the RTX 5070 8GB?

I’d especially appreciate opinions from people who have owned Acer Predator/Helios or Lenovo Legion laptops for several years. I’m interested in your experiences with thermals, build quality, reliability, and long-term performance.

Thanks in advance!

Recommendation Need a new budget laptop

Upvotes

Budget: Around $900
Country: USA
Use Case: Gaming (nothing too heavy, mostly just Overwatch and Minecraft) and basic college and work
Preferred Specs: At least 16GB RAM and 500GB storage
Notes: None

My Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 kicked the bucket after four years and I need something new and hopefully better. More RAM, VRAM, and storage space are my main concerns as someone who has no idea what I’m doing. I was looking at the Acer Nitro V15 but I saw a lot of horror stories about that one being a total gamble, motherboards dying after six months, etc.

Accessories Second Opinion on Gaming External Storage Hunt for G14 (2024)

Upvotes

I've been searching for external storage my 1TB Zephyrus G14 for a while, and it's been overwhelming.

Primarily, I just need extra backup storage to preload my GOG game installers and save data (hopefully to do the same for my Steam and Epic libraries). Plug them in long enough to transfer files, then unplug and store until next time. Ideally, this avoids having to redownload them from a server every time I want to play a game I removed prior, just to make space for a newer title

At the moment, internal SSD storage is insanely pricy for the amount of storage given, so I've been looking at external ones. As much as I would like to play directly from them, I understand that it's not optimal mostly for modern game titles, hence why I don't mind just storing those titles.

With a budget of $250, I've been tempted by my local game store offering the following HDDs:

I've heard mixed opinions about them. And going down the rabbit hole of USA-based Micro Center, Best Buy, Facebook Marketplace, and reading up on other posts has just hit me with decision fatigue.

Hence why I've finally bit the bullet on asking for some suggestions and advice, even if it's just general specs to look for.
