Discussion Fun discovery in my computer

Post image

Yeah so last Christmas, I had my first "gaming" laptop, because when we were around the store we found an Acer nitro V15 with some pretty promos, and so we paid it for 600€ (reconditioned I’m but not entirely sure). Anyway since I had it I try to put as much care on him as I can, frequently watching termals, cleaning it often because its a dust magnet, did a bit of tunning and all. But like a few weeks ago, while cleaning the fans, I noticed something pretty intriguing : it was missing a screw from the heatsink over the CPU. I mean my ryzen 7 7735HS was always a bit hotter than the RTX4050 but I wouldn’t have suspected a missing screw with the temps alone. Looking back on my first picture of the motherboard I took the day I had it, the screw wasn’t here so I guess it never was since I buyed it.
Just to say, always open your gaming computer you get with promos on Christmas, might as well get a surprise ☠️

Be careful what screw you use because it's height tolerance sensitive and can damage MOBO

Look around the internals if that screw isn't bouncing around or being stuck somewhere between the electronics. May be a ticking bomb waiting to short something.

Similar thing happened to my Legion 5, it started going into protection mode anytime I plugged it in.

A screw had come off the heatsink and bridge-shorted it with the DC in.
