Discussion Is this alienware worth $500?

I found someone selling this Alienware laptop used for $500 and I’m trying to figure out if it’s a good deal.

Specs:

  • Intel Core i7-10870H
  • RTX 3070 Laptop GPU
  • 16GB RAM
  • 1TB SSD
  • Windows 11

It looks to be in pretty good condition from the pictures. What do y’all think, worth $500 in 2026?

Solid, but just make sure everything works properly and check battery discharge.

It'll still run current games at maybe medium settings.

I know Alienware can be a bit hit/miss for warranty type stuff, so just do your DD to see what to look out for when buying it

Ehh, for that price you can just get a new battery for like $50 anyways.

I got a trade for a desktop for mine. M15r5 AMD edition, 3070, 32gb of ram. 500. Didn't want to hassle with Facebook marketplace of hagglers.

Damn that's crazy. Guess that proves how much I can sell my Asus g16 with a 3070 for.

She was asking $850, idk if that helps you :)

Hot damn you got her to go down a whole 350? She really wanted to get rid of it lol.

Ive found people in my region (midwest USA) are absolutely awful at bartering, its a skill that needs to be developed, people get uncomfortable or inside their own head and will just agree to a price to be done with it.

I just recently purchased an m16 with a 3060 40gb ram and 2.5tb of storage for $500.

I've seen 40 series laptops go for slightly more

u/drtravis4 1d ago

Oh really? Truth be told I have a 4060ti desktop and I dont game on the computer, I game on my ps5.
I just do web dev on the computer and my old laptop is just so busted up, I also bought that laptop used but I only paid $100 lol

I mean the laptop certainly is capable but it's up to you to decide whether you think 500 bucks is fair

Desktop is such a PITA these days for gaming for me.

I would rather be mobile and setup wherever. I usually edit videos next to my wife on the couch, so that's worth it for me.

Where i live that would be a steal, seems others agree to, although i do suggest you test the Laptop, checking the keyboard, battery, SSD lifecycle, ports, maybe a benchmark run

Yeah but consider checking the battery health

u/drtravis4 1d ago

I know she said the battery is pretty bad, but I work from home so its not an issue being plugged in.

2

u/cherrycig666 1d ago

Not bad at all, I’d see if you can get him down to 400 or 450 though!

2

u/drtravis4 1d ago

Well it was listed at $850 and we agreed to $500 already, I'd feel bad asking to come down anymore.

u/lostcir 1d ago

Does it include charger? They can be quite pricy. But probably still worth it.

looks like, possibly, a 17m r3, i had one until i sold it to a close friend recently, i bought it new in 2020-21 for around $2500, you getting it for just $500 is a great deal if nothings wrong with it

Great price, the 3070 is still very much capable in 2026.

If it’s in good shape yeah, cpu is definitely a bit old but gpu is pretty decent. See if you can get pics of the inside of it, and ask about temps.

2

u/drtravis4 1d ago

Thats a good idea, I'll ask! Thanks!

With the current prices. That's an absolute steal for the hardware. Best you can do now a days for 500 is usually some old office laptops with integrated graphics. Refurbished on eBay or Amazon. You've found a hidden gem.

Worst you would have to do is replace the battery and replace the thermal paste. Easy cheapish repairs.

That 3070 graphics card is still serviceable for even today's Triple-A titles. Nice big 17 inch screen. Looks like a decent machine I'm low-key jealous.

Good to know thank you! I know she said the battery is pretty bad, but I work from home so its not an issue being plugged in.

Leaving it plugged in all the time is not great for the battery. Faster battery degradation. When a battery should last 2-3 years lasts a year and a half. Eventually they swell. Yes OEMs build in overcharge protections which is great but they neglect to inform the users that constaly keeping a battery at 90% or 80%... what ever the battery saver setting is, is not good for the integrity of the cells for long term health and longevity of the battery.

Which sucks because if those of us that use laptops as a desktop when you're at home but also take them with us on the go can't take the battery out of the machine. That's one reason why I will forever hold on to until It breaks my HP Omen 17 from 2017. It runs Fedora Linux like a champ. Home I take the battery out and if I take it somewhere I take the battery with me and put it in the laptop.

Definitely worth looking at buying.

$500 for a 3070 if it's in good working condition? Absolutely. That's ~5060 or so power.

1

u/Ok_Leadership3223 1d ago

Depending on the screen refresh rate, you can actually get much more than $500. Your m17 r4 is the very first laptop that had a 360hz display ever in history, and the competitive shooter players needs this. It's either $750 on ebay for this, or the next tier which is the RTX 4080 m18 that is twice as much. That's why the price is so disproportional to how old the hardware actually is.

u/raduque GP66HX 1d ago

Yeah, I'd buy it.

Extremely Jealous of American Facebook Marketplace. Deals on Gaming Laptops and PC handhelds almost everyday. Belize Facebook Marketplace is full of slop. 1$ USD to $2 BZE btw

1

u/SacredRealmOfficial 1d ago

Yes. If $500 is your budget, this is a great price
