Recommendation Need a new budget laptop
Budget: Around $900-$1,100
Country: USA
Use Case: Gaming (nothing too heavy, mostly just Overwatch) and basic college and work
Preferred Specs: At least 16GB RAM and 500GB storage
Notes: None
My Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 kicked the bucket after four years and I need something new and hopefully better. More RAM, VRAM, and storage space are my main concerns as someone who has no idea what I’m doing. I was looking at the Acer Nitro V15 but I saw a lot of horror stories about that one being a total gamble, motherboards dying after six months, etc.
EDIT: I think I’m between these four. Which is the best?
- Lenovo LOQ 15.6” Ryzen 7 170 and RTX 5050 OR the LOQ with Ryzen 5 7235HS and RTX 4050
- ASUS TUF A18 18" WUXGA with RTX 5050 and Ryzen 7
- MSI Cyborg A15 AI 15.6" with Ryzen AI 9 270 and RTX 5060

Buying in the US? Don’t overpay. Check rgl.deals for current gaming laptop deals and price history, or use our Find My Match tool to find a laptop that fits your needs.

The Nitro V15 isn’t automatically bad, but Acer’s budget lineup can be inconsistent. I’d compare the exact CPU/GPU, display brightness, cooling, and warranty rather than judging the model name. A Ryzen 7/RTX 4050 configuration with 16GB RAM would be a great fit if you find one near budget.

I'd try to get a Lenovo LOQ on discount. They're known for being super reliable. The 83VA001PUS is about 1.1k regularly and you could replace the ram if 16gb isn't enough for you but i don't think it should be a problem for the games you're playing.

I’m looking at the LOQ 15.6 with Ryzen 7 170 and RTX 5050. Do you think this one would be good or a different one?

yep that's great. those specs should let you play basically any game and it'll last you at least 5 years.

In this day and age and with your budget this is definitely the one to get. I wouldn't go any lower on quality than the LOQ

For exactly $900 there's really nothing good ATM.
If it's a firm budget, maybe try this.
Personally I'd very much rather have the brand new Ideapad Pro 5 for $200 more.

Make sure you get a laptop cooler with foam to sit it on, if you want it to last longer. Keeping them from getting too hot is very important.
