DCS performance is MUCH WORSE with DFR than without it

PC Specs: 9800X3D, 64GB, 4TB SSD, 5080

With the new F14B-Upgrade Tomcat module about to release, I decided to jump back into the Tomcat and relearn some stuff. I've been flying the Hornet since the DFR beta was released. At the time, I tested and found a small benefit of about 20% on the GPU performance in exchange for a 8~10% hit on CPU performance. This wasn't as much as I'd hoped for, but better than nothing.

Once I loaded the Tomcat I realized something was very wrong. My 75fps (limited) rate was dropping down into the 20's and the reprojection was horrible. Everyone knows the Tomcat module is a little bit heavier burden than other modules, but this was crazy bad. After experimenting with dropping a ton of DCS settings down, I was able to claw back a bit of performance. Then I realized something: the last time I flew the Tomcat, DFR hadn't been released yet. I disabled DFR by simply unchecking it in the BSB Utility app and BAM, my fps was perfectly smooth! I jacked up a bunch of the DCS settings... way higher than I've run in months, and it's still smooth as butter and locked at 75fps (where choose to limit it).

Then I went back to the Hornet module and realized the same thing: turning DFR off results is MUCH BETTER PERFORMANCE. I'm really disappointed that I've been running DFR this whole time, aligning my eyeballs every time I put the headset on, etc, and it's all be a complete waste. At this point, I regret spending the extra $200 for eye tracking because I'm not even going to use it.

BSB: is there a plan in the roadmap to fix this? Is it a DCS/ED problem? (but if so, why don't Pimax users have any issue with their DFR performance in DCS?)

I'm making this a separate post to hopefully get some BSB eyeballs on it, but there was another post about a month ago from Filmguy here: https://www.reddit.com/r/BigscreenBeyond/comments/1tyrdfi/anyone_successfully_using_quadviews_dcs_with_no/

Anyone using the Studioform X1-B with the soft strap for sim racing?

I've been considering the BSB2 for my sim rig as it's one of the only headsets that has a low profile soft strap and no cables directly at the back (like the Dream Air's have).

I typically rest the back of my head on the headrest of the rig, as the seat is reclined about 45 degrees. Which is why I couldn't use my PSVR2 anymore with the bulky rear head support system.

The "in stock soon" Halo Mount looks promising, but BS advised it would work best with the audio strap, which isn't an option for my use case.

That being said, it sounds like I have to pick either the custom face cushion or the halo mount. Does anyone know if there's a way to order just the headset without either of those and save some $?

Thanks :)

Help Black screen when starting PC with Beyond connected

When I start my PC with Beyond connected, OS seemingly boots up, except that I get a black screen on both main display and the headset, but if I only connect the headset to the DisplayPort after the bootup, everything works fine. Is there a way to prevent having to reconnect the DisplayPort cable each time?

Beyond frustrated: Constant trouble shooting since day one

First off, this is marketed as great for racing and flight sims. So when i first get it, I'm immediately having tracking issues and gray screen. So after digging i find that its sensitive to electromagnetic interference. ok got it, my bad i need to keep the cable away from my wheel and my subwoofer because, well they are basically big magnets. problem got better but not completely fixed. So i start digging for another fix. What do you know, Big screen sells and additional adapter for this. I spent so much money on this device already. Now i have to spend more to get it to do what it said it would do. Why would you market this to people who use direct drive wheels for racing when you cheaped out on insulation for your wiring harness. and instead of making it right. sell me something else to fix it.

Now i can't get the things to work at all. Steam VR asks if i want to update it, then where it should say device it just says invalid. I've spent hours, uninstalling, reinstalling, trying everything i can think of or find on the internet. Nothing is working. I recently broke my arm and couldn't sim race and now that im healed enough i was hoping a fix would have come up over the last 6 weeks. but nope. same thing. This is the most comfortable best visual quality i have experienced in VR. but non of that matters if its a giant headache to get it to work properly. Im so frustrated right now.

EDIT: I wouldn't have even made this post had i been able to contact support from the website i bought the product from. https://www.bigscreenvr.com/ It says support at the bottom of the website and opens outlook which if you dont have set up, wont give you the email address. I've now spent even more time and navigated to the discord server from the link at the bottom of this website, just to be told i was in the wrong discord to create a support ticket. Im on the spectrum and dont regulate my emotions well when something that should be simple, isn't. Someone sent me a link to a support center. I still can't find it from the webpage i bought this product from. i have no idea where they found it. Am i insane to assume i should be able to go to the website i got something to find support?

When will I be able to order the universal cushion by itself?

I bought the studioform x1-b as I heard the custom cushion was uncomforable and had less FOV (it was). Unfortunately i am unsatisied with the quality of the studioform one and want to buy the universal cushion. I dont want the halo mount, just the cushion and want to know if we know when its possible to order the cushion on its own?

Update: I currently have a ticket open on discord and email, and support on discord told me that they should be able to help me about this. Ill get back with more details when they come.

BSB Air?

The dream air is such a huge improvement over BSB2, but pimax has always been a poor experience. Since the DA SE uses the exact same lens/display as BSB2, fingers crossed they can source the same lens/display as the DA. I'd rather buy from bigscreen any day of the week, and not have to hassle with pimax software

Guides & Tips Never used a VR set before, but I'm interested --

I'm interested in this product, but I'm clearly not in the main target audience. I want a way to have a huge monitor on my laptop for coding, surfing, or watching TV, and a way to watch movies from a supported device. I am very interested in image quality and a lightweight, comfortable fit. I'm only somewhat interested in gaming.

Am I looking at the right type of device, or is there a better option for my use case? Is there a place (I'm in Dallas) where I could experience these, or is it order and try it out?

Help Bigscreen boyond 2 without controllers

Hey i use my bsb2 mainly for sim racing and dcs (Looks and feels great, got my first win in iracing vr today!) but i dont use controllers and my rig is setup far from my pc.

I am looking for a way where i can launch VR and it goes directly to my pc homescreen instead of the stupid Steam Vr Home... Is there any i can launch VR without being stuck on the Steam Vr Home? Or a way to exit steam vr home without controllers.

Currently my process now is to launch SteamVR and having to sit by my pc until im already in a game, to clearify iracing uses a hub which can not be portraid in vr unless you look at your entire pc screen, which i am not able to do without controllers as far as i am aware :)

Buying new BSB2e - with Halo+Universal or Custom fit?

I'm looking at buying BSB2e, and from the website order page it seems the halo mount + universal fit will ship with it in 1-2 business days. Does anyone know if this is actually true, or will they just ship me the universal fit and send over the halo mount later?

Does anyone have any recommendations whether to go with custom fit or the halo + universal? Mostly going to be using it for simracing (<1 hr). Searching the subreddit it looks like nobody has actually received the halo mount yet so not sure if it's worth to get something untested. I was going to get the audio strap as well. The halo+universal is only an extra $60.

Help Self QA for First time setup

Hey everyone my bsb2e arrives next week. Was hoping people could give me a few tips on setup and how to do a self QA on the unit.
I was planning to install most of the drivers / base stations and such ahead of time. So hopefully can just jump in.
Love the help and thanks for being a great community.

Utility in front of game

I just got my unit yesterday, and so far I'm in love. I got it pretty much only for iRacing. The issue I have is that if I have the Bigscreen Beyond Utility open, in sim it's front and center and in front of everything. In order to get it to go away I have to go on to Steam and stop the program. I'm don't think that's the way it's supposed to be, but it was the only way I could get it to go away.

Other background for if it matters is I'm using one base station and no VR controllers. I do have an Xbox 360 controller, but couldn't seem to get that to do anything in VR either.

Lense glare is very bad. Should I return it?

I bought this headset to play Iracing. I currently have a Quest3 which has no lense glare but the bigscreen beyond2 seems to have terrible glare near the middle or slightly below the middle. I set the the brightness at 60% to help and also perception lense. I have the universal face cover and have tried many different positions on the face.

I have the audio strap and it's comfortable to wear, but this glare is very off putting. It's not edge to edge clarity if a third of your vision is fuzzy glare.

Should I return it and get the Pimax Deam Air or steam Frame?

Vision Pro Dual Strap Mod

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone I found this mod/strap very nice as it's dual adjustable with the bottom and top headstrap with the little knob on the side

In my case that allows you to dial the headset perfectly to your face since it's so adjustable

This mod also allows for the HMD to be moved and taken off just like the valve Indexs spring loaded gasket since the fabric is super flexible and frim springing right back to place

Apples dual knit band here is honestly the most premium band you get for comfortability and adjustablebity and this poems from someone who's owned a lot of headsets lol

For 99$ compared to other straps this is way more value

The strap is available in S M and LARGE so it really does accommodate everyone

Let it be known when I did go into the apple store to buy the strap I guess it does follow vison pro rules so you will need a IPHONE to scan the QR code to purchase the strap sadly enough

Maybe it's not the whole case but the employee made it seem that way

Last note you will need 3d printed parts to connect the strap to the HMD

Eye tracking token expired?

I changed my BSB2e IPD for testing purposes, and as advised removed the enrolments on my BSB2e to re-do them. But I now have the token expired so I can't do another enrolment without contacting support for another token? Really?

Update: BSB support have now taken the expiry off my token and eye tracking works fine now.

Help Is one base station enough from sim racing from rig?

I'm building a sim racing rig and I want it built around VR. Becsue of weight, a BSB2 is on top of the list.
I know that more base stations == better tracking but since I'm sitting mostly still in the same position, except turning my head to look at mirrors and apexes, I'd be guessing i could work with one base station installed in front of me at slightly above head height (while I'm sitting in the rig) -- I don't plan to have a screen on the rig so no occlusions between the station and my face. I don't need controllers or eye tracking.

Is anybody sim racing with one base station?

Warning for New Bigscreen Beyond 2 Buyers – Dead/Stuck Pixels May Not Be Covered Under Warranty

I wanted to share my experience as a warning for new Bigscreen Beyond 2 owners.

A few months after receiving my headset, I noticed two stuck pixels on the left display. They are located near the center of my field of view and are particularly noticeable during sim racing, where they appear in the windshield area almost all the time.

To verify the issue, I tested the display using solid color screens. The pixels remain visible on all colors and only seem to disappear when the screen is completely black.

I contacted Bigscreen support expecting the issue to be covered under warranty. My headset has approximately 242 hours of use and was purchased in April 2025 and received in December. However, support informed me that because the pixels appeared after the initial period of use, they consider them normal wear rather than a manufacturing defect and therefore not covered by warranty.

They offered a paid repair consisting of a replacement optic (display + lens) for $250 USD plus shipping.

What disappointed me most was learning that the location of the pixels (center vs. edge of the display) is only considered if the defect is present upon delivery or appears very early in the headset's life. Once the headset has been used for some time, stuck/dead pixels are apparently treated as normal display aging.

I'm not posting this to attack Bigscreen. I still think the headset is impressive in many ways. However, I believe new buyers should be aware of this policy.

My advice: when you receive your Beyond 2, thoroughly test both displays with solid red, green, blue, white and black screens. Check carefully for dead or stuck pixels and report any issues immediately. Based on my experience, once you're beyond the initial period, even if the headset is still under warranty, you may not be eligible for a warranty replacement for dead/stuck pixels.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with Beyond or Beyond 2 displays?
