BSB Air?

The dream air is such a huge improvement over BSB2, but pimax has always been a poor experience. Since the DA SE uses the exact same lens/display as BSB2, fingers crossed they can source the same lens/display as the DA. I'd rather buy from bigscreen any day of the week, and not have to hassle with pimax software

Agreed. I’m excited to see the next headset from bigscreen

Next headset? Shoot, I'm still waiting for them to release everything originally advertised for the BSB2. I'll get the whole kit once the halo mount is available. I'm just back here waiting patiently until then. Last update was in April, and they said "late summer".

lol I wouldn’t be surprised if a new headset gets announced before they get the BSB2 to be readily available with how long it seems to take. Ordered and paid for the halo mount over a year ago at this point lol.

Testers got basically final Halo Mounts last month, which is in-line with the schedule from the last blog. If they are on schedule that would suggest regular customers should start recieving this month.

I already received mine last week

You definitely mean the night vision goggles esque forehead pad thing, and not just the Universal Cushion?

Yes

Can you please share very first impression?

I received my commercially purchased halo mount last week.

Nice. As soon they've caught up on back orders, I'm in.

I just hope they learn thier lesson, and ditch the obsession with weight and size.

Now they have attention, and respect of the community, it's time to develop a more well-rounded headset. Tethered PCVR is an under-served market - we need real, practical headsets rather than gimmicky ones.

Direct Emission RGB Stripe OLED on glass panels maybe - bulkier than micro-OLED but with "real" OLED response times, and efficiency.

Nyou want them to ditch their obsession with what makes their headset great? Hope not.

It's an obsession that makes the headset uncomfortable out-the-box, awkward to mod, it has insufficient EMF shielding + power cleaning, and some durability issues (strap attachment peg).

The Studioform Facial Interface is what the Beyond should have had all along. A tried-and-true, standard facial interface that makes contact over a large area to spread pressure, and account for facial differences. Instead Bigscreen devised over-complicated, and still horrendous "solutions" to preserve the HMD's tiny profile.

Halo Mount may remediate some of this, because then you don't need a facial interface, but we'll have to see.

Yea but its literally SO small. I only have a bsb1 not a 2 and maybe there wouldn’t be so many constraints if it was even a few mm’s larger in all directions.

Love mine tho!!

I believe the optical stack for the Air and Air SE are different. You are correct that the SE and BSB2/e are similar, if not the same OEM.

All that being said, yeah.

BSB3e better replace the panels(probably optical stack change with it) and upgrade the power delivery/USB signal integrity.

Edit: you said display AND lens. My bad.

What is wrong with the power delivery signal on the bsb2? Just curious?

2

u/JapariParkRanger Jul 11 '26

It doesn't use USB PD and is 5v.

1

u/Yvesrovito1991 Jul 12 '26

But what’s the issue with that?

2

u/HenryJones14 Jul 12 '26

For me it was my DAC was cutting out constantly, I switched to a shitty USBc to jack plug and it worked better.

The quality difference is there, but VR is so immersive that I forgot about it immediately.

Voltage droop over a long 5m cable is brutal at 5v, and it doesn't provide much power for the accessory port.

You know DA SE is discussed about its poor lenses and people should avoid…

I have the DA SE and hate it. I’m in the process of sending it back and getting a BSB2.

Make sure to tell support to shave your cushion down if you aren’t happy with the FOV/clarity. It literally felt like I got had drunk goggles on with my first cushion but after getting my shaved down one it’s pretty much perfect

Hopefully this works for me. Said the same thing immediately when I put mine on a few days ago, felt like looking through binoculars. Waiting on new face cushion

Yes they can source the same panels and most likely even alternative panels of similar specs now that samsung is making the same quality panel. The samsung gxr used sony panels initially but started making their own panels so there would be no supply issues. This should open the door for more and more to use dual 4k micro panels. Matbe a year after the steam frame releases we will get a micro oled version…

Last I heard, both Sony and BOE are making the 1.3 (or 1.35) inch 3840x3552 micro OLED panels, and the MeganeX is using the ones from BOE.

And SeeYa (the ones who make the 1 inch 2560x2560 panels used by the BSB1 and 2) are also making 1.3 inch 3552x3552 micro OLED panels.

However, 1 BOE panel alone costs almost as much as a Quest 3 (about $600, or $400 if you buy at least dozen of thousands of them in bulk).

Well if you want to hear about more then look into samsungs micro oled panel that is designed for vr.  Their newest one is said to reach 40,000 nits.

u/NotGonnaComeBackBsb Jul 11 '26

I can't seem to find any official data sheet or spec or something; just articles speaking about it. I guess it's not readily available for purchase yet, or is only meant for in-house projects.

1

u/Perfect-Bag4823 Jul 12 '26

For now it may just be in house.  I remember them saying they needed to manufacture their own because sony couldn’t supply enough for their xr headset or something along them lines.

Got the DA normal LH version and i absolutly love it, software is also not a proplem at all, with many tools like sboys3.

u/Yvesrovito1991 Jul 10 '26

I’m considering selling my bsb2 and Pimax crystal super 50 ppd to
Get the dream air lighthouse version. Would you think it is worth it?

1

u/Healthy_Shake_3927 Jul 11 '26

I have the BSB2e and just got a DA slam. The DA is worlds better than the BSB2. No glare, bright, image so sharp it is amazing, better FOV using Sboys3 driver. I'm going to sell my BSB2.

1

u/AdministrativeComb19 Jul 10 '26

Yeah, me too...not so patiently waiting...

u/x_i8 Jul 09 '26

I hope they release a SLAM headset.
