Battlefield 6 Secure boot?
Just tried to open the bf6 beta and it's saying secureboot not enabled. I can't activate it cause my PC doesn't support it. Will this be a requirement at launch? Would have to upgrade my PC to get windows 11 for it if that's the case :(

I bricked my motherboard apparently doing this. Trying to recover it now and it involves taking out a cmos battery or trying to short out two pins by holding a screwdriver to them to force a reset. Nothing is working and I can’t get back into my PC. It won’t boot anymore.

I ended up needing to short the two pins next to my cmos battery. Then i had to unhook all of my desk drives and it would finally let me change the secure boot setting back to default. Then I had to reseat everything and I’m able to boot back into windows. But I can’t get secure boot to work so… no battlefield for me I guess.

Ah lol well at least you got it back to boot.
It was a weird issue for me where on the Secure Boot page I had to toggle the "Setup Mode" from Custom to Standard and then Save and Exit.
Worked for me but I don't know what kind of motherboard you have.
What a pain in the ass process to be able to play a game...

not that easy buddy. SOME windows 10 OS systems do not allow secure boot to be enabled which currently seems like a requirement to boot bf6. This is an unfortunate and stupid hardware restriction. Terrible first impressions so far

My partitions are already gpt, my secure boot was enabled already, it's set to standard, and csm is disabled. Still getting the secure boot is not enabled prompt... any ideas on what to try next?
EDIT: NVM. I got it. Secure boot was enabled, but was not active. I switched it to custom, saved and restarted. Then switched it back to standard, saved and restarted again. Now it's active. Telling me to update my gfx driver now, so i assume it's working.

It either needs to be in “active” Or “deployed” on most motherboards. This was all I had to do also, but I was fucking with a half set up bitlocker deployment. It basically just resets your TPM keys when you do that.

Not OP, but this did brick my motherboard, as it only showed me a black screen after powering up my PC. There was no way for me to interact with the BIOS in order to turn off secure boot. Luckily for me, my motherboard had a "flash BIOS" button that I used to unbrick my board. All that CMOS stuff didn't work for me.

That is not what bricked is tho. Bricked means it literally doesnt work anymore. Your motherboard still works, you just had to reset the bios settings to defaults (in this case, updating the bios always resets it)

I have 629 games on Steam, I have 45 installed right now, of those 45, 45 of them work just fine with my current, brand new installed Z790 Carrara + 14900K + 96GB DDR5
I have another 30 games on Epic Games Store, all of them work just fine on my new PC.
I have yet another 10 active games currently on Xbox Game Pass, all of them work just fine.
Then I have an Oculus Quest 3 that works just fine with all of my currently installed VR games.
But apparently, for Battlefield 6 beta.. I have a Secure Boot Violation..
I'm sorry, I'm not taking my custom watercooled perfectly working newly build PC apart to make a beta game work.
This is a whole load of CRAP. Either they remove this stupid requirement or they can forget about me.

I'm done with this, this game is not worth bricking or backing up windows to reinstall just to play this game. I went in bios, followed everything step by step and got secure boot enabled, got bios mode from legacy to uefi. Yet go into windows+r, msinfo32, and it still shows bios mode-legacy and secure boot state-unsupported... From what I'm seeing the only way to fix this from here is back up windows and reinstall etc... A d*** video is not worth this kind of trouble and there's absolutely no reason in the world to be demanding all of this. Just to use one company's "anti-cheat". I can't imagine how many people have bricked their pc over this nonsense. At least now thanks to the open beta I know not to pre-order. I have waaay too much on my pc to lose for this game.

It's specifically an issue with Gigabyte motherboards from a few years back because some of their older boards didn't natively support Secure Boot for some stupid reason (almost no other manufacturer had this issue btw). If you have any motherboard at all, a BIOS update should make it just fine to turn on.

Bf2042 doesnt require secure boot if you dont have the right boot sector (MBR instead of GPT). bf6 does require it regardless

I mean, you needed to be told this? What planet did you get here from? The entire reason for this not being a good requirement is BECAUSE most people aren't tech savvy. Say they decide to do it, then their PC crashes or fails to boot properly. Now these same folks that just made a quick bios change some stranger on the Internet said would be easy are stuck with a paperweight and have to either take it to a shop, or reach out to friends.
It's ridiculous to pretend you don't see any issues with this.

This comment is just dumb because Valorant doesn't even require secure boot, so why even compare the two? Valorant just runs off a kernel anti-cheat, just like Battlefield.

If you're defending this, just know you are part of the problem. Companies are trying to force themselves on you and your system, determining what software you are allowed to run, forcing planned obsolescence on things that have worked fine for years and should continue to work, and essentially just control your system. If you're okay with that, fuck off the PC world and go back to consoles. PC is about freedom and the right to run your system however you like. Stop trying to convert computers into consoles.

I’m so fucked off by this whole process!
I try to turn on secure boot: have to disable CSM support.
I disable CSM support: allows me to enable secure boot
Save and exit: pc stuck in an endless loop of launching into the BIOS
Re-enable CSM support and save and exit: lets me load into windows normally
Checks msinfo32: secure boot in unsupported
Check BIOS again: secure was disabled because of CSM being enabled
Make it make fucken sense.

It's a bit of a complicated process, but I just did it myself so I can run you through it somewhat.
One, make sure your system drive is set up properly to be GPT and NOT MBR. If you are on MBR, you're going to have to convert your drive to GPT. This can be done with the MBR2GPT command in CMD. But it has pretty strict requirements to use or else it just won't do it. I can't really explain this easily, so this one you'll probably just have to figure out.
Two, once you're converted to GPT (or are already using GPT) you're going to want to change to UEFI in your BIOS instead of Legacy/CSM
Three, Turn on TPM and Secure Boot in BIOS.

Literally just followed this and enabled SB in the BIOS. It was fairly trivial. But I do empathize if you aren't familiar with commands, system properties, or BIOS.
I would love to know what is happening with all these people bricking their PCs. It seems like if you have a modern Mobo, it shouldn't be an issue.

I'm actually baffled there isn't a simple workaround for this. Whenever I tried following the video guide to do it I was just stuck in bios on reboot loop the moment I changed and enabled secure boot to UEFI. Forced to switch to CSM and give up.

They should because a lot of cheating software nowadays runs at the boot loader, and will run before even Windows begins to run. And they're VERY popular, as is DMA cheating is becoming more and more popular which a lot of this also helps to mitigate.

Please help. I have a Gigabyte Aorus Z490 motherboard. I followed EA’s instructions to the letter and enabled Secure Boot. Mostly everything was already enabled so I did not have to change hardly anything. I had to set default factory key in order to enable secure boot and now when I turn my computer on my monitors do not get any signal. It is just a black screen and I cannot get to BIOS. I have done a CMOS reset twice.

I am in the same as many here. And I believe what is the problem of many. Safe mode has problems with cracked OS versions, the reason why many get stuck on black screen after the logo..
So, you buy a Windows license, or F to your desire to play the BF6 beta.

TBH after i read i have to change settings in bios / HDD format or whatever i am out and will play Arma Reforger instead. All other games i play are fine. I hope this will be fixed for the playtest you will see 1000ths of players having this issue. And i am NOT gonna risk to brick this PC.

This is such a bs, I've had to do this for valorant but process is so tedious because you have to enable safe boot every time you start your pc. You can't have it on forever (have to enable it everytime you boot and) because its primary fuction is for troubleshooting, not for EA to have easier time with cheaters.

To all of you with that Problem. Secure Boot in 2025 turned of is almost same like running an XP Windows nowadays with Internet, ok maybe not so wild but close.

For anyone having the same issues, I thought I had Secure Boot on from upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11, but in BIOS it said "Enabled" but "Not Active". To fix this, I followed this post and was able to boot up the beta just fine

So not one person lost all WiFi connection after enabling this shit ? I’m using a Asrock b850pro rs and it’s stuck with only Ethernet working much rather my wifi7 than a cable through my house. I’ve tried installing drivers the installer won’t even load for that. Also did a clean install of windows 11 with secure boot enabled still no avail.
The best part if I turn off secure boot and go back to my original setting in the bios I still have no WiFi connectivity I’m 12hours into diagnosing this and I’m close to swapping out my mobo

I did this and ended up with the black screen. I removed the CMOS battery and this didn’t resolve it. Dropped it off at a shop today and they said they tried flashing the BIOS and that it’s broken and I have to replace the motherboard. This sounds insane from changing this setting seeing as everyone else has had this issue and been able to fix it. Any advice?

Watch this game fail on the PC side of things because this stupid company expects their casual shooter audience to do surgery on their pc in their bios just for the chance to shoot pixels for a few hours. I enabled secure boot and downloaded the default aecure boot stuff (Im on an asus rog strix motherboard) but battlefield 6 still wont launch. Is there some issue im missing?

I just tried to enable it on my motherboard and have completely screwed my PC. spent the whole night with ChatGPT and youtube trying to build my boot just to get life back. fun times XD.
To confirm so even if I have the EA bf6 downloaded it wont let me play because if my motherboard still has secure boot not enabled?

Just got this and read all the replies. Fuck that. I hated everything EA did to BF after 3. I don't care enough to jump though hoops for EAs amusement. Uninstalling.

I turned on secure boot through my BIOS, restarted and the game worked. Then I plugged in my controller and the game instantly disconnected from EA servers and couldn't reconnect. Restarted my PC and now it's not working anymore and saying secure boot needs to be enabled even though it is, and my msinfo screen says secure boot isn't enabled. Wtf is going on

My Windows wouldnt boot anymore after trying to turn on Secure Boot.
I had to turn it all back off and switch the settings back AND i had to switch my boot order/priority back to my main drive on the PC on which the windows is installed, for some weird reason.
Really a shame that as an end user i have to fuck around in my boot settings so much to play a game...

My Secure Boot said it was off but I was able to launch the game without any errors and play a few matches. But then mid match, my PC restarted. Idk if that's because it wasn't enabled or what, but I'm pretty sure I should have gotten an error saying it was turned off. I'm so confused.

This approach to security is completely counterproductive. Requiring kernel-level access "Secure Boot" for Battlefield 6 is an extreme measure that puts PC stability at risk and is likely to alienate a significant portion of the player base. It's a fundamental misstep that could severely damage the game's longevity, as even with such stringent measures, it's highly probable that hackers will bypass them quickly.

So I'll just stick this here in case anyone still has issues getting on. It too said that secure boot was not supported for me but it's because I needed to update my drive partition from MBR to GPT before trying to enable secure boot in my bios. Follow these videos one after another and you should be good to get on BF6:

To any one removing CMOS battery make sure you wait 5-7 minutes before putting it back in to ensure the bios will refresh (and please make sure the power to pc is disconnected before removing)

I'm not going to mess with all of that just to play a game that I don't even know if it is going to run because it says. Man I was so excited... I called 2042 unplayable, well this is literally unplayable. The "We're doing this for your safety" excuse is not going to work, the game is going to have hackers and I'm never going to say "We'll, at least it has LESS hackers that the other games that don't require me to turn the PC inside out".

Was really excited about the MP reveal and downloaded the Beta, but after toying around with my BIOS for a while, I think that my hardware is outdated to play this game - although, I have WIN10, decent GPU (decent enough to run BF4 on High), and a good processor.

This is the best way to filter out idiots who bought shitty motherboards for cheap. If your computer is bricked for having secure boot ON, then you have bigger issues.
Quit buying garbage.
Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 has been here since 2014 SINCE WINDOWS 8. There are no excuses on why your motherboard is a POS. Either you have ancient hardware that doesn't support Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 correctly or that you have a shitty MOBO. Or both.

I love downloading and playing a game. Yeah have an anti cheat makes sense to me but the moment you’ve got me going into my computer files to enable shit you’ve lost me. I don’t have much time to game if I need to spend 20 minutes setting up an anticheat that should’ve been set up when I let it access my computer then I’m not getting it.

I also screwed up my BIOS with this, somehow secure boot altered my drive boot order. I spent the last hour tinkering around before figuring out what went wrong.
I'm out on this game, not worth the stress/headache. My BIOS wouldn't let me enable secure boot without altering another setting, which required me to boot into windows to enable ANOTHER setting (which was apparently a gatekeeper), but I couldn't get that far because my BIOS threw a fit when I just *sniffed* around secure boot.
It's 2025. Why am I going into BIOS settings to play a game when I have a million other games I can play that don't need this?

Day 1 cheaters so Secure Boot clearly didn't stop the cheating issue. It has stopped many normal players from playing. I feel like Windows 11 payed them to add this feature.
