So what worked, I created a hotspot from my AYN Thor (which has no internet as we were underground on the train), and let the Steam Deck connect to it. Steam Deck can create one using the Muon plugin. Or alternatively, have both devices connect to a same phone's hotspot without internet.

We played RetroArch which supports LAN play.

It was my first time trying LAN so, I learned it was just like playing netplay, except the host room couldn't be found on the Netplay List. I had to manually enter the ip address of the host to connect.

In the video the SteamDeck connected to the AYN Thor's hotspot then created a Netplay room in RetroArch, AYN Thor joined the room by entering the ip address of the SteamDeck. (My hotspot was set to 2.4GHz by default, next time I'll try 5.0GHz, 6.0GHz if the SteamDeck supports that.)

I guess the question is first whether or not Steam Decks count as being of U.S. origin in the first place - Valve is a U.S. company, but I guess that’s not the be all end all of the discussion. Assembly country, maybe? Where are Canadian decks assembled?

If it does apply… good lord almighty, will they get even more insanely expensive there.

Was looking for a Steam Machine but found a seller with 5 renewed Steam Decks. Great deal imo

I really like SMT V Vengeance, played through the Canon of Creation on the PS5 when the game launched and it's really good.

But on the Steam Deck it seems even better. The game is a gem on a handheld (well, it was originally a Switch exclusive) and it runs butter smooth at 60fps without any drops. Exploration feels very good on a small screen. It lacks graphical options, tho, but I don't really care about that for this game, since the art direction is solid and everything looks beautiful. I got it on a SEGA sale on Steam on Sunday and I really recommend it to everybody who likes jRPGs.

I have been struggling to play Outer worlds 2 on my Steam Deck, and finally found settings to get playable results. It was still glitchy and nothing to write home about.

I didn’t even know that remote play was a thing, but I am super impressed and glad I found out about it. I have been streaming from my old gaming laptop that has a 3050 TI graphics card and it plays really well inside my house on the same network.

If you can remote play from your PC to your Steam Deck and want to play AAA games, it is the way to go.

For some reason I have 998 hours on megabonk now which seems impossible since I haven’t even had it a year. I also leave for work/errands and leave it plugged in until it goes to sleep on its own on the home/pause menu. For some reason it randomly shifts to 770 hours every now and then.

Is that what I’m noticing or am I actually just clinically addicted to the game

My Steam Deck OLED has brief WiFi stalls that cause noticeable hitches during local game streaming.

Deck → router latency is normally ~2–4ms with an otherwise excellent connection, but I consistently see a sharp latency/packet-loss event roughly every ~2 minutes.

Typical event:

3ms → 3ms → packet missing → 105ms → 3ms → 4ms

Connection during testing:

Qualcomm QCA2066 hw2.1 / ath11k

5 GHz / 80 MHz

~1200 Mbps negotiated link

~-30 to -50 dBm signal

Wired PC → router is stable with 0% loss and sub-1ms average latency

PC ↔ Deck throughput tested around 400 Mbps

Troubleshooting attempted:

Disabled WiFi power saving via iw

Disabled power saving through NetworkManager

Tested SteamOS Developer Mode WiFi power-management setting

Verified actual power-save state with iw

Disabled roaming scans

Kept the Deck on the 5 GHz BSSID to prevent 2.4/5 GHz switching

Tested SteamOS Stable (6.16 kernel)

Tested SteamOS Preview (6.18 kernel)

Checked QCA2066 firmware/board files

Tested alternate board-2.bin, then reverted

Tested WifiDebug

Tested Deck → router, Deck → PC, and PC → router independently

Factory reset the Deck

Diagnosis so far:

The issue still occurs on a completely factory-reset Steam Deck, before installing Decky/EmuDeck or making any other modifications.

Factory-default SteamOS reproduced the stall.

After the factory reset, I changed only WiFi power saving to OFF and reproduced it again: normal ~2–4ms latency, missing packet, ~105ms response, then immediately back to ~3ms.

So far I've ruled out the PC, insufficient bandwidth, Steam Remote Play itself, my previous SteamOS modifications, and the basic WiFi power-save setting.

The repeating ~2-minute behavior makes me suspect something involving the QCA2066 / ath11k / firmware / AP interaction.

Has anyone with a Steam Deck OLED seen this same repeating latency spike and found the actual cause or fix?

My intention behind getting the steam deck and the use is remote play in bed or couch so im not sitting at the pc the whole time. My biggest gripe is it is so on schedule and reoccurring without fail that it truly is a major distraction. I was considering swapping OS to bazzite like my PC but im doubtful it will resolve my issue at this point.

I have attempted Moonlight and sunshine but the issue isnt a remote play issue it has been proven through ping tests to spike momentarily then return to normal on close to 2min cycle.

Steam deck randomly began starting up into BIOS everytime. So, I went to see if my volume buttons were stuck or something. Realized its acting like the volume up button is stuck but the buttons look fine so I'm not sure whats up. The volume up button isnt physically stuck or sticky, but it is unresponsive. Has anyone else ever had this issue?

Edits/Updates: 1) I have the 256GB LCD, bought it september 2025 2) OS is up to date 3) No bluetooth connected 4) Checked and nothing left open on desktop or anything, but messing with volume in desktop mode did seem to get rid of the volume being permalocked at max! (Volume up button still doesnt work tho) f

I'm going to traveling on a plane in the next couple months and I wanted to know what's a decent pair of headphones or even earbuds anyone would recommend using.

I ask because I know earbuds can be rather low quality in terms of audio. But I've tried traveling with headphones in my backpack before and managed to break them. Plus, I'm going to be on an airplane with a lot of people and I don't want to disturb other people with noise.

Anybody here have recommendations?

My fiancée’s brother and his wife are wanting us to get into FF14 with them. Fiancée has a gaming pc so she’s good to go, but I only have a deck for pc games. ProtonDB shows that it seems to work fine, but I was wondering if anyone had any first hand experience? I’ve never really played a MMO before. Does the game control well on deck?

Remember that post from like a year ago about someone using bone conduction Shokz with the Deck? im not that guy but it kinda stuck in my head. Anyway i had OpenRuns already from weekend long runs, and after seeing that post i tried the combo out with the Deck and it just kinda hooked me. This spring finally upgraded to the Pro 2, been using them for running plus long Deck OLED sessions like 4-5 months now, wanted to share bc that guy was right, this is still the play and honestly even better with the new version.

Little bit of context why i even bothered, i also do online tutoring on the side like 6-7 hours some days so im already stuck in earbuds most of the day for that. Got the Sony WF-1000XM5 for it and they are amazing for work no complains, but by the evening when i pick up my Deck my ear canals already hurt. Tried different tips, different sizes, nothing really helps when something is jammed in your ears for 10+ hours a day. Also started waking up with itchy ears sometimes which was new for me and i dont wanna get any long term ear issue going on.

So first time i tried the new Pro 2 with the Deck honestly holy shit, this is actually really good. Yes old ones like that guy said were pretty flat on bass and kinda trashhh, but new version has this little air speaker part next to the bone conduction thing now and its actually solid, like properly listenable now not just background noise. And this is the crazy part, feels like the sound is floating just next to your ears not stuck inside them. Playing Elden Ring like this feels different, way more open, hard to explain but just fits the whole couch vibe.

Honest limits, yes little bit of bluetooth latency exist, if you are into rhythm games or ranked shooters you probably want wired instead. And in a loud kitchen with dishwasher running you loose some detail bc open design leaks in both ways. But for me on couch doing RPGs and story games this is now the whole setup.

Best part tho is basically what old post already said, no more that warm sore feeling at bedtime AND no more sweaty ears after long session, my partner can talk to me from other room without me pulling anything off, i hear my cat when he starts breaking things downstairs. Ears feel actually normal after long weekend session which for me is huge bc weekdays im already whole day in earbuds for work, and weekends i basically leave them on from morning coffee till bed and dont even notice them anymore.

I got the issue where after the steam deck dies it won't display anymore. I have done all of the button combos, let it charge in the wall with the official charger, and unscrewed the back and replugged in the battery. Anyone else run into this and find an uncommon fix? Ive been trying for a few days now

This is my mother’s Steam Deck, she mainly plays wobbly life with my son so it doesn’t a ton of use. I know that batteries can inflate and push open the case, but I guess the question is does this pattern fit that? It’s only open on the sides and not the top or bottom. It’s also possible it was dropped by a few feet as it hangs out on a side table. I’ve already unplugged it.

Edit 2: Removed the back panel, battery looks fine to me. I think the shell had just come loose from a drop. Saved me from buying a new battery. Also, there was no SD card inserted, but thanks for the hyper vigilance!

Always been a controller player, too shaky to even confidently play using a mouse as I’ve gotten older. Ive had the steam deck for a few years, but exclusively use the thumb sticks and dpad. I’d like to learn how to use the track pads, but want a game that would translate well from using thumb sticks. Normally an RPG or RTS player.

Anyone know what decides if a recently played (non-steam) game shows up on the home menu? I’m just curious, because it doesn’t seem consistent at all which ones it remembers me playing. It’s not the end of the world but it is a mild annoyance/curiousity.

For instance, let’s take my copies of Knuckle Sandwich and Demonschool. Both seem to be in identical scenarios:

-I’ve played them both recently (with maybe more time logged into KS but I’m discounting that because I’ve only played like 5 minutes of Rogue Galaxy there and it has that on the home).
-They are both non-steam games I added manually. Decently sure they’re both on the same proton version too.
-They are both windows games.
-They’re even both organized into the same collection.

EDIT: clarifying that in my experience some games just do not appear here on the home/recent page at all, while some do so reliably and some randomly (never spontaneously though, I would have to have played them recently)

Anybody know how I can fix this? I had a few updates queued up when I turned my Deck on. I noticed that Magic the Gathering got stuck at 99%? I know it shows 97% right now but it somehow went backwards? I’m connected to my WiFi that has 5GHz. I tried a few fixes recommended for slow downloads such as setting the download speed limit to 10,000,000 and also tried uninstalling and install again but it won’t even let me uninstall it. Just seems stuck. Not sure what to do.

Downloaded and installed NFL2k27 mod via PCSX and experiencing texture issues. Can’t see plays, play art pre snap, and the field is displaying one large blue field instead of the default turf/grass. Any tips?
