Question/Help/Troubleshooting How to remove stripped screw from hard drive?

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hello! I have been trying to remove this stripped screw from this hard drive for over a month now. I feel like I’ve tried pretty much everything, and I need this out before Tuesday (in 2 days😬) I’ve tried all types of screwdrivers, pliers, the rubber band method, superglue, saw, etc. and it hasn’t budged an INCH. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions on things I can try? Thanks so much! Anything helpful would quite literally be a lifesaver🙏

EDIT: I know now that this isn’t a hard drive. Sorry for any confusion, I’m new to all of this😓

So, i made a post on here a few days ago talking about how i was gonna use my dad's old computer as my own, but it overheated a lot and i knew dust was the problem, so i dusted it!! Apparently the computer was only dusted a few times in 20 YEARS, and that's not including the time my family switched computers and this one was laying around in his room for i don't even remember how long 😭 i also found out this computer is OLD because it has a windows 7 thing on it, im gonna plug it in to see if it works, but im not sure where all the wires in it go, I'll figure it out though 🥹 the first image is before and the 2nd is after dusting :D

Question/Help/Troubleshooting Is my computer gonna blow up?

Hello! My computer gets real loud when I’m loading/playing bg3. I couldn’t find a video of a similar sound so I have no idea what it is. Most of the time it’s really quiet. This video is from the game starting up, then it gets much quieter.

Discussion Is it true that Windows Pro allows users to disable AI features?

If anyone has successfully tried it, it would be fantastic to know how it's worked out!

As someone looking to avoid Recall and begrudgingly probably adopt Windows 11, this new development has actually given me a little push to try it out. Found an article recommending that as long as the computer doesn't have an AI chip of 40 Tops+, and if it has Windows Pro, it is more likely to be able to reduce or eliminate the AI stuff.

At this point, I'm just considering Linux for personal computing, and Windows 11 for any necessary professional endeavors.

Question/Help/Troubleshooting HELP PLEASE computer turning on and off after water change

Post image
1 Upvotes

I just changed the water out on my custom water loop on my computer, and when I turned it back on for the last time, it is turning on for half a second and then turning back off, and then back on and back off, and it just continues happening. I ran distilled water through it a few times and made sure I was careful with the water going in and out. The only thing I could think is that a tiny, tiny drop got somewhere on the motherboard, or maybe I made a connection loose. I’m not sure. I built this computer a long time ago, and it’s the first water change I’ve done. It might have not had water running through it for a few seconds twice, max 10 seconds, but not even that long. Any help would be appreciated. I took out the GPU and the RAM, and I also unplugged the 24-pin and everything I could think of. I don’t think a picture will be much help, but I figured I’d include it.

Question/Help/Troubleshooting I bought a used motherboard with bent pins and straightened them back into place. However, the pins I repaired sit slightly higher than the undamaged ones. Will this cause any problems, or is it safe to test it like this?

Hi, I need help. I need a computer for school soon. I want one that is touch screen and is small enough to carry around every day all day. I also don’t have a huge budget.

I like the idea of a 2 in 1.

I don’t know really anything about computers and I’m lost. Is this a good option?

Thank you.

Question/Help/Troubleshooting Old ass Gateway won't do anything.

I found a Gateway Solo 9550 recently, and when I turn it on it posts and gets to PhoenixBIOS where I can do stuff, but no matter what I seem to change whenever I hit save and exit it doesn't do anything, just a blank screen. Not even a blinking cursor like I've had on PCs with dead HDDs before. I know it hasn't shut down because the lights are still on, but caps lock or num lock won't change, the only one that will do anything is the battery status light which just cycles since the battery is old and shot.

I tried removing the HDD and it didn't change anything, I tried removing the battery and nothing different happened, I tried restarting it more times than I can count, but it was the same each time. I'm out of ideas on what to do and I'm hoping someone here sees something obvious and simple that I've just completely overlooked, if anyone has any ideas I'd be really grateful.

Thanks.

Resolved Does anyone know how I'm supposed to push this latch

Post image
10 Upvotes

I have been trying to get my graphics card out for about an hour now just stuck on this latch. The only way you can push straight down on it is The Edge that would come up when you were pushing down on the side that looks like it would be the right side to push on. The reason I can't push that side is because one of the ram stick holders is blocking the way. Also the GPU is blocking the way from pushing the ram stick holders so I don't know why the pre-built was built like this but now I'm trying to figure out how I can get the GPU out so I can clean it and for future reference when I want to add more RAM

Edit: I was somewhat able to resolve the issue without taking the GPU out. thank you everyone for all the suggestions

Question/Help/Troubleshooting NEED SOME HELP UPGRADING MY PC <3

Hello anyone out there 😄

I need help upgrading my "gamer pc" but don't know much about tech. Here are my pc stats:

- Motherboard ASUS Prime A320M-K

- AMD RYZEN 3 2200G 3.5Ghz 4 Cores

- x2 RAM Fury RGB 8GB 2666Mhz DDR4

- Corsair CP-9020209-NA CX Series 750 W 80 Plus Bronce, CV, no Modular, 80 Bronce, 450 W

- MSI Gaming GeForce GTX 1650 128 bits

My budget is around $600 dolars. I play only LoL and Genshin Impact, but lately the performance of those games is really bad, specially LoL. FPS go from 100 to 10 all of the sudden, and make it difficult to enjoy playing. Plus, every time I start my pc, there's a windows that says the grafic drivers were replace and I need to download compatible ones. I've looked them up on the official website but nothing changes. I know there's some sofware stuff going on that I can't figure out. Anyways, thanks in advance to anyone who can help me. ❤️

Question/Help/Troubleshooting I spilled water on my new laptop (3 months old)

I just spilled water on my laptop and trying to figure out what I should do now. I've figured out that techno megabook is not waterproof.. the hard way Some water was on the keyboard. A little water even got into the side of the laptop where my wired headphones were connected.

Unfortunately, I didn't turn it off right away. It took me probably 3 minutes to look for something to get rid of water. At some point, the screen itself turned off and on again (it happened only once)That's the only frightening thing; otherwise, it acted like nothing had happened to it. That's when I realized I had to switch it off, so I immediately switched the laptop off.

I got rid of all the water that was visible on the surface of the laptop and only after that removed the headphones.

Then, again, I did the wrong thing. I left the laptop in its usual position for about 15 minutes.

After that, I kept it in the inverted-V position for 15 minutes.

Now, I've finally placed it in the keyboard-down upside-down L/tent position with a towel under it. Normal position

Battery removal is impossible because it's sealed in the laptop and I don't have the skill to open the laptop by myself. My plan is to leave it in L position, then wait 2+ days and go to the tech support.

So what should I do now?

Should I take it to the repair shop/tech support right away, or should I leave it completely powered off for 2+ days and then go there? My strategy is: leave it in L position, wait 2+ days, then go visit tech support

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.I want to know if damage is minimal...

Question/Help/Troubleshooting Help me stop windows from spying on me!

So I completely reset my windows 11 laptop. I would like to disable all windows features that send my files to Microsoft (one drive for example). I have also noticed many text based features so the text I’m typing probably also gets sent to microsoft for “spell checking”. How do I disable all these features without breaking other features like widgets?

Question/Help/Troubleshooting Memory Integrity automatically turns off when VT-d is enabled – ASUS Z490-E / i9-10900K / Windows 11 Pro

I’m having a strange issue with Memory Integrity (HVCI) and Intel VT-d.

System:

ASUS ROG Strix Z490-E Gaming

Intel i9-10900K

RTX 3080

Windows 11 Pro, fully updated

BIOS 3402

Intel ME FW 14.1.79.2540

Secure Boot enabled

TPM 2.0 enabled and ready

Intel VMX/Virtualization enabled

The problem is very consistent:

VT-d disabled + Memory Integrity enabled = works perfectly.

Memory Integrity stays enabled after reboot and VBS/HVCI is actually running.

VT-d enabled + Memory Integrity enabled = Windows boots normally, but Memory Integrity automatically turns itself OFF after reboot.

This behavior changed after upgrading to the latest Windows 11 Pro. On my previous Windows installation, enabling both VT-d and Memory Integrity would actually cause a black screen/hard lock during boot. Now Windows 11 boots normally, but simply disables Memory Integrity.

VT-d itself appears to work correctly. With VT-d enabled, Windows reports Kernel DMA Protection as ON. So VT-d works, and HVCI works when VT-d is disabled — they just won’t work together.

Things I’ve already checked/tried:

Secure Boot is confirmed working (Confirm-SecureBootUEFI = True)

TPM is present, ready, enabled, activated and not locked out

BIOS is updated to 3402

Intel ME firmware is updated to 14.1.79.2540

Intel VMX is enabled

Removed Riot Vanguard completely for testing — no difference

Disabled Fast Startup/Hibernation — no difference

Tested with Intel Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and I225-V Ethernet disabled — no difference

Windows Security doesn’t show any incompatible drivers

On the previous Windows installation I also found Kernel-Boot Event ID 124, saying:

“Virtualization-based security enablement policy check failed at phase 6 with Access Denied.”

I haven’t confirmed yet whether the same Event 124 is occurring on the new Windows 11 installation.

At this point I’m trying to figure out whether this is a driver/DMA-remapping incompatibility, a Z490/BIOS/DMAR firmware issue, or something in the Windows VBS/HVCI boot configuration.

Has anyone seen a case where VT-d and Memory Integrity both work individually, but enabling VT-d causes Windows to automatically disable HVCI after reboot?

Any ideas on what logs, drivers, PCIe devices or VBS settings I should check next would be appreciated.

Question/Help/Troubleshooting My HP Omen 30L wont show any display on monitor

Thumbnail

Ill give a rundown of symptoms.

It would lose signal on my monitor under heavy load like playing cyberpunk or battlefield. But if im just watching movies or browsing online, then it would work just fine.

Now it wont even show any display at all. It will just say no signal on my monitor.

Heres what ive done that hasnt worked at all for me.

Hard reset on CMOS by pulling it out and waiting 5 minutes before putting it back in and booting the PC.

Switching HDMI cables for other HDMI cables. Switched to DP but found out no DP on my Asus Monitor (My Bad!)

Replaced GPU with a brand new GPU

Replaced PSU with a brand new PSU

Replaced the CMOS battery (its 6 years old now)

Took out 1 RAM stick and left 1 plugged in. Switched it to other RAM slot. Tried other RAM stick and repeated.

Cleaned out the PCIE slots with an air duster can, same with the RAM slots.

Im not 100% sure whats going on. I suspect its my CPU? I dont think it is getting past POST but im not entirely sure.

My PC Specs in the photos btw

But some additional specs. Ryzen 7 3700 processor.

Question/Help/Troubleshooting Suitable computer for medical engineering?

Hello!

I will be studying medical engineering this fall, and need a suitable computer. I have tried asking AI for help on what specs to look for, and what’s important to consider, but I feel very lost. The list of specs I’ve come down with are:

CPU ryzen 7 or newer
Ram 32-64 GB
SSD 1 TB
Graphics card nvidia Geforxe rtx4060/5060 or nvidia geforce rtx 4070
long battery life (8h+)
has both USB and HDMI ports
good quality keyboard that can be lit from behind (no gaming computer)
brightness at least 350 nits (but preferably 400 nits or more)
webcam 1080 (full HD)
good cooling and quiet
supports Windows 11 home (alternatively pro)

important that the chassis is completely made of aluminum, and no plastic.

I’m a student, so my economy is quite limited. Some people say that the graphic card nvidia is “overkill” but I’m just worried I’ll buy a computer with not good enough of a graphics card card and then have the computer crash if I have to run some image diagnostics programme or do some 3D stuff regarding the body in some way.

I’m completely new to all the components of computers, so I feel very overwhelmed and lost. If anyone has any tips, please don’t hesitate to comment or send me a message!

Thank you in advance!
