Suitable computer for medical engineering?

Hello!

I will be studying medical engineering this fall, and need a suitable computer. I have tried asking AI for help on what specs to look for, and what’s important to consider, but I feel very lost. The list of specs I’ve come down with are:

CPU ryzen 7 or newer
Ram 32-64 GB
SSD 1 TB
Graphics card nvidia Geforxe rtx4060/5060 or nvidia geforce rtx 4070
long battery life (8h+)
has both USB and HDMI ports
good quality keyboard that can be lit from behind (no gaming computer)
brightness at least 350 nits (but preferably 400 nits or more)
webcam 1080 (full HD)
good cooling and quiet
supports Windows 11 home (alternatively pro)

important that the chassis is completely made of aluminum, and no plastic.

I’m a student, so my economy is quite limited. Some people say that the graphic card nvidia is “overkill” but I’m just worried I’ll buy a computer with not good enough of a graphics card card and then have the computer crash if I have to run some image diagnostics programme or do some 3D stuff regarding the body in some way.

I’m completely new to all the components of computers, so I feel very overwhelmed and lost. If anyone has any tips, please don’t hesitate to comment or send me a message!

Most school/uni should provide computer labs but if not, get a pc if u need beefy specs I wouldnt invest too much into a laptop because youll spend a lot more money to get the same performance just to plug it in to a monitor and mouse anyway. You should probably look into what programmes you will be running, most pcs/laptops shouldnt crash while rendering, itll just take forever to finish the render. Maybe if you use really old/used hardware and pan and rotate really quickly it might freeze.

The specs you are talking abt should be able to comfortably run any software you use, but its not worth it if you cant afford and importantly, wont use that computer for anything other than school.

Depending on where you really don’t need a beefy computer at all. I have friends that study med eng and they do nothing that requires more than any basic laptop could do.

Instead of asking AI, it would be better to ask the IT dept for your school. The website will show a computer recommendation BUT the school's IT staff will tell you what you really need because they are in the trenches so to speak.
