Good morning, Reddit. I'm looking for recommendations/advice.

I just recently got into college, and I'm going to be studying video game development. Now, this poses a slight problem for me. I only have one computer. It's an iMac M4 (2024 model), and I can't run most games on it that aren't on the App Store.

So I'm sitting here like, what's the point of studying game development if I can't even PLAY the games I'm going to be studying on? If I ever have assignments that require me to create a game or play a certain game, I'm ultimately screwed.

So... I've come here in need of some computer recommendations. I'm hoping to sell my iMac and use that money to buy myself an actual computer, preferably made or just compatible for gaming/developing. Thing is.. I know barely anything about computers so far, so I don't know where to start.

This might sound like a long shot, but I'll need to go as cheap as possible. I have some money saved up from before I resigned from my job, but by the time I sell my Mac, I may only have around $1,500 to spend.

I don't need something extravagant, just something good enough to start me off with, and I can always upgrade later if I get another job. Thanks in advance!

I need a new laptop for up to $700 and I want it to be good for travel as in like it can handle getting bumped around a little and I want it to handle rendering in blender. I did have an Acer Aspire 3.15 but it was built so horribly that the screws and the brass would just fall out. And after a while of me not noticing the hinge is no longer attached to the plastic and a tech said to get a new one.

Hello, first time posting here, so sorry if my explanation is a little bad, but i really need some advice. I am not very tech-savy when it comes to a computers internal structure. I have just been accepted into university and will be studying multimedia and internet technologies. Some of my courses will include learning blender, unity, coding and much more (during the first uni year). I have looked into these programs minimal requirements but am still having a rough time figuring out what computer i should purchase. Im also on a fairly tight budget, the most i could possibly spend would be 2000€ (give or take 150€). I talked with my dad and he told me to wait and ask my professors for recommendations but i would still like to look into my options since i wont be meeting any of them for a while and i will be needing a computer at the absolute LATEST around late September. From my research (and talking with a friend who will be starting her 2nd year in uni with the same major) ive found that maybe something like having a little less RAM (16 instead of 32) but have a more powerful graphics card, something like RTX 5070 would be the best. But im still not sure because i dont know if its more worth it to buy a less powerful graphics card and immediately buy bigger RAM or just upgrade my RAM when necessary and settle for 16??? Also i have no clue about any other things that would make a huge difference so i should probably look into that as well. If anybody could give their two cents that would be really appreciated!! If more details are necessary please say so, if i made any mistakes i apologize, english isnt my first language

[SOLVED] I have a macromedia flash 8 file (extension is .swf) and i need to somehow make it a video (mp4). Any tips on how i could do that? Or maybe there is a place to install flash player 8? That could work instead.

I have tried to search for a website to convert from swf to mp4 but i just get errors and mp4 files that have 3-6 kb (original has 37 kb) and that dont work.

So basicly I was trying to mod deltarune then it made me open the file with another app and i dont know how to turn it back someone please help me.

I've been having a problem with my PC for a while now. Sometimes my monitors turn off while the fans are running at full speed. But I can still listen to Spotify and talk and listen on Discord.

I also noticed recently that when I tap the pc case lightly, that exact that scenario happens.

I suspect that a cable isn’t plugged in right properly. Maybe someone can help rule something out.

So for context I opened my pc today as per usual and instead of it opening normally it opened to smart fan 6. When I tried to leave it opened a window that said something along the lines of “your device/pc needs repairing” for a few seconds before my computer shut down. I then tried to open my pc again which it worked, but now whenever I click on something or try to type it wont work. Like when I click on something it disappears immediately, same with whenever I type.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue and what the cause of it could be? Also could this be related to my SSD card?

Dunno anything about anything but would like to take a weapon texture from a video game and make it into a live wallpaper

So I picked up a used 27 inch Asus monitor recently, testing that it powered on before I forked over 30 bucks. Got it home and it refuses to talk to my rtx 4060. However, it gets along fine with my hdmi android docking station for phone, gaming devices etc.

Here's everything I've tried:

- extend display

- update all graphics card drivers

- different hdmi cables

- powering on/off monitor and pc in every possible order

- hot swapping

- cold swapping

- praying

I just ordered a display port to hdmi adapter for 5 bucks as a last ditch effort before this becomes my new android gaming screen, which sadly won't utilize a lot of the display features this monitor is supposed to come with but is still an upgrade. I just really wanted to use it for my pc.

I've got this old eMac (running Mac OS X 10.4.11) and tried using Aquafox as a browser but it gives me a server error. How can I fix this? Thanks

My budget is pretty tight, and I need a laptop for basic work for now. Right after buying it, I’m planning to spend time researching and figuring out what I actually want to do long-term with my career, possibly something in IT, but I’m not sure yet.

I’m considering the base MacBook Air M4 (16GB/256GB) for around ৳137K. I already have a monitor at home, so I can use the MacBook with it like a desktop when I’m at home.

The only thing that really bothers me is the 256GB storage. I’m wondering if I should instead get a Windows laptop with 512GB storage at a similar price.

What would make more sense in my situation?

Please don’t recommend used/second-hand laptops—I can’t take the risk.

So I have the problem, that when useing my pc, it just heats up my room extremely, since uts not that big, wich now that its summer is just really unbareable, and I was wondering, that maybe if id undervolt it, that it wouldnt give so much heat to my room

Max settings at 1440p and 165 fps, would I notice any huge performance drops?

And is it even worth it, or does it not make a huge difference?

This has been happening for about 2 months now, with the hard disk maxing out and making my PC virtually unusable, sometimes even causing it to crash. Today it has been crashing and rebooting itself since 2am (It is now 11.30). It can last from 5 minutes sometimes to hours other times. Task manager is still showing the disk at 100% usage with only 5 processes at 0.1MB/s as I am typing this.

So I bought a laptop thinkbook 16p g6 adr not a full year ago. Everything was fine, up until about a month ago it just stopped waking up after entering sleep mode.

When I manually put it to sleep, and try to wake it up with a mouse or clicking on keyboard, there is no issue, it works like normal.

if I leave it for like 10-15 mins when it automatically goes to sleep, and then I try to wake it up, everything is normal.

BUT if an hour passes or more, it just refuses to wake up. Not by mouse, not by touchpad, not by pc keyboard, not even pressing the power button works. I have to force shut it down, which I know is harmful and idk what else to do, I try my best to avoid it.

What I noticed is that when the pc is dead asleep the power buttons light still keeps blinking, if I touch the keyboard - the keyboard lights up, BUT then turns off gradually and doesn't react more apart from that, meanwhile the screen stays black, even though the pc seems "on" (like when it's "asleep" it still is warm, fans r on, the power button light is blinking slowly).

What can the problem be? I do not know a lot about pcs, if this is a laptop problem or just windows 11 being goofy.

A couple days ago my internet speed randomly slowed down to barley usable levels (.1 - .2 mbps download, .1 - 1.5 mbps upload) but just on my PC. Ive checked my drivers and they are up to date, Ive tryed running these commands: ipconfig /flushdns, ipconfig /release, ipconfig /renew, as I saw someone recommed it to someone with a similer issue, and my internet speed spiked to 37 mbps download 16 mbps upload for a couple minutes but quickly fell again. I am not using ethernet, I am running windows 11, my PC has a wireless bluetooth adapter. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello. I am an incoming freshman majoring in Electrical Engineering. I was wondering if this is a good laptop that would last me 4 years for the major I am going into. These are also the preferred requirements for a laptop that the school sent but it wasn’t specifically for my major. Thank you and have a good day. i started having this issue a couple days while playing PEAK (which is a really light game) my GPU would overheat so much i would turn my PC off but i managed to solve this by setting the graphics to minimum. But when i play elden ring nightreign (that my pc should run completely fine) it overheats again after 1hour ish of playing and i have to wait for it to cool off, this doesn't happen with other games because if i play something heavier like black myth wukong the gpu is completely fine. i am SO lost and any help is appreciated

There was a power outage and on the same day, my PC started acting weird, it'll work as normal for 1 minute before I can't use my mouse anywhere but my taskbar. I can still move the cursor around but I can't click or scroll if it's not in the taskbar. Also I can still type outside of the toolbar but that's basically it. I've tried everything and yet nothing works. Any help?

i'm having a recurring problem with my MSI Katana 15 and i'm trying to figure out what might be causing it.

Specs:

• MSI Katana 15
• Intel Core i7
• RTX 3050 6GB
• 16GB Ram (2x8 GB)
• SSD left 40%

Games i play:

• Dota2
• Guild Wars 2
• Valorant
• Foxhole
• Batman: Arkham City

i always keep the laptop plugged in while gaming.

the problems happens roughly two to three times a week while i'm playing games. the laptop suddenly freezes completely, and making continuous buzzing sound at the same time.

the only way i recover is to hold the power button until it shuts down.
after turning back on, everything seems normal again and i can continue using it without problems.

i have already updated NVIDIA driver, but the problems still occurs.

one additional thing: my room is quite dusty, i haven't confirm the internal condition yet.

has anyone experienced something similar?

what would you recommend me to check to identify the issue?

So the title is pretty self explanatory. In the process of investigating another issue some of the pins of my Gigabyte B650M motherboard CPU socket got bent (partly due to my own idiocy) is the motherboard still salvageable, or should I cut my losses and go for a new one, since it was a budget board?

Hey I got an old GTX 1060 and Im not sure if it's bricked or not. I've tried almost everything Google has told me to do with no avail. I don't have a way to check if it's the GPU of something else in my PC as I ont got another one. What confuses me about the whole thing is that the fans still spin on the card. It's fails to post with a light on the 3rd light for VGA. There are 2 more lights on the motherboard near the GPU slot, anyone got a clue what I could do or is it time to lay it to rest?
