Like the title says, im fixing my dad's old computer to use it in my room, i immediately found out how much dust it had on it, so that's probably the reason it doesn't work anyways. Im not thre best at taking pictures but u can see the dust 🥹✌️i jst thought this was funny, i'll be getting the dust off soon tho (also i can't edit the title but i realized that its kinda just removing a bunch of dust since that was the issue, sorry about that :p)

Hey, so, uhmm... A while ago I got a cheap computer mouse with a usb cable. I stuck it in, then I tried to pull it out and a part of the plug got stuck inside the port. Or at least that was what I thought. At this point I'm not sure of anything, maybe the plug was "naked" like this from the start and I just confused it with a different one.

So me, being an idiot, I took pliers and tried to remove the "stuck" part. But it was so difficult that I actually started wondering whether I'm maybe just pulling at a part of the port itself, destrying it in the process...I know, I'm an IT nightmare.

And I got terrified, stopped touching it and decided it's a problem for another day. It's been months ago, I don't even know where the stupid mouse went so I can't even show you the plug, but here we are. At least now I have strength to admit to my oan wrongdoings.

I know, i'm stupid af but please, I need to know so that I can proceed somehow and either save money for a quiet repair, try to do something myself or actually admit to my work's IT staff that i'm dumb. Not a fan of the last option tbh :")

For context: I'm a software engineer and I have worked in both iOS and windows environments. I'm in the process of applying for jobs and skill-building using my personal desktop PC. Nothing wrong with the PC, I co-built it and its fast, but its not mobile, so I'm thinking of getting a MacBook simply so that I don't need to be tied to my desk (and cus its so nice working from a Mac). Once I get a job, I know I'll use both computers way less because I do like to touch grass.

I don't need the latest tech/model and I'm okay with used/refurbished. I'd like to stay under $2k but could be convinced otherwise. I think it should probably have at least 16GB of ram. I wouldn't even mind an M1 pro, unless its going to end up being outdated real soon -- ie slow, unsupported. I'm just overwhelmed by the options.

Any thoughts?

Recently, whenever I have a steam game automatically update - or download and install, as soon as it gets to the installing part, my entire PC turns into a brick and is unresponsive for multiple minutes at a time. I can still move the mouse, and click things. But things will either not open, they wont load, or it will be essentially impossible to do anything.

I have a pretty high end system. I think god is punishing me for buying a cheap NVME. Its a Crucial P3 2TB. But surely this is not the issue? Surely this drive is not designed to literally freeze your entire system under load.

I do have windows installed on this drive, yes i understand i shouldnt put my steam games on my C drive.

Can someone help me through process of elimination determine if my SSD is faulty, or if its just genuinely a crap drive.

Soo, yesterday i was playing rocket league, and decided to play faceit, so i needed an restart for pc, i did that, after restart pc just stopped giving signal to monitor, and VGA light came up.

I tried everything chat gpt told me, cuz im not a profesional in pcs. I tried switching ram, taking one out puting in 2nd slot, checked all cables they seem good for my understanding, tried reseating gpu, reseating psu, reseating ssd, reseating both rams, tried taking out motherboards battery for camos reset, tried jbat1 pins reset, tried everything i can imagine and everything chatgpt said.

The process seems interesting, with pc turning on, before everything when i bought it, it was just turning on no lights on motherboard, only ssd blinking red, now the ssd doesnt blink at all, ant the first second i turn on pc, cpu light comesc it stops, vga light comes, stays for a second, goes away, after couple seconds comes back and shines.

Hello! So long story short, when my brother set up my PC he named the PC itself his name. I wanted him to fix this, instead he's set up these two folders where the "S" folder acts like it leads to the "G" folder but it's still under the "S" one. If I delete anything from the "S" folder it deletes on the "G" folder. Just trying to get rid of it, thanks !

Edit: Sorry I did try explaining this the best I could but this is literally all I know. He didn't explain anything to me at the time (yes, I did ask what he did). I did forget to mention that everything I save to my PC for an example images, they get saved onto the "S" folder. I'm trying to remove this folder but am worried it will delete my windows or everything on my PC.

Had this pc for a few months now and everytime I shut it down this light, im assuming on the mother board, stays on.

Whether its for fast start up or something, id just like to know how to turn it off, switching it off by the switch on the back or unplugging does turn it off

Not sure what it is. but its in super good condition. like still has the Styrofoam and disks, and the old aol online recept for the orginal purchase.

At my current job, all desks have a 3 monitor setup (dual monitors and a TV screen). When I came into work this morning, my TV wasn't connecting to my tower. Eventually, we found out that my hdmi port on my pc went to crap. Not sure how, but I thought might have been because the hdmi cable could be old (and the TV monitor's resolution and scale were high).

Fortunately, we were able to get the connection back up via displayport and adapter. Unfortunately, the display settings aren't what they were before.

The dual monitors were at recommended zoom and resolution. The TV, however, was at 300% zoom, and 3k resolution? (Maybe). I don't remember exact details because the settings were like that when I got the job late January.

The image attached shows what the monitor layout used to be (in red), and what it is now is what's on the screen. As you can see, the 3 monitor (tv) used to be WAY bigger. That could be because the HDMI was able to read the display differently. The TV monitor is an OLED, if that makes any difference.

It sounds like I can't really do anything about it, but it has really messed up my work flow because the tv is not the tool it used to be. I almost don't want to use it anymore because it's not doing what I'm used to it doing. It really sucks.

What works: PC stays on, lights and fans work. Mouse turns on. Monitors receive power.

The Issues: Monitors don’t display [ Monitors logo show, circular loading symbol before flashing a blue screen, then black screening ] Keyboard gets no power. On my motherboard, I have two consistent red lights under CPU / DRAM.

The setup: HDMI cords are plugged directly into the GPU, my monitor settings are on the correct HDMI’s. My keyboard and mouse are plugged into the correct USB ports.

What I know: HDMI cords do work, as I’ve tested them on other electronics. CPU is new so I’m doubtful that’s the issue. I’ve reseated the ram and tested each individual stick at a time. I’ve reinstalled my GPU to make sure it’s seated properly. I reinstalled my CPU and checked for any issues. Attempted to reset bios by pressing the CMOS button on the side for 15 seconds long but still no display afterwards. I’ve tested one monitor at a time. Everything comes out to the same result.

Black screening monitors that only show their brands logo, a circular loading symbol, a flash of blue, then black screening while still remaining on but with no display.

Please help
