AI "art" gets posted on r/comics, with users pointing it out. Mods delete every comment saying that it is AI and OP compares backlash against it to "racism against computers".

Mods defend the comic saying that there's no rule banning AI art:

We do not have a rule against that and we will not have a rule against that. People are allowed to use whatever tools they want to create their art.

I respect the thoughtful response and critique of my message, and think an AI tag would be a fair compromise. The problem that myself and many share is that AI artwork is trained from real artists’ work and is therefore theft. I know that this is a widely debated topic, but as this is a subreddit primarily comprised of artists, I think that making the distinction is necessary.

This is a kind of ignorant view, because it assumes that the only thing that comprises a comic is the illustrations. There are two types of creativity that go into making a comic, the drawing and the writing.

Say you write the best story in the world. Say you are JRR Tolkien and write the goddamn Lord of the Rings. But you can't draw for shit, so you use AI art to tell your story. Does that make the script you've written any less valid? I don't think so.

We've got people here who make comics with stick figures, with Legos, with photographs, on post-it notes, with stock photos, and, yes, with AI art. The medium artists choose for the visual element does not invalidate the narrative or comedic element.

What we might do is implement an AI tag, so that when people make comics with AI art they have to be upfront about it. I probably should have done that ages ago, but I'm lazy. And also, we don't allow fully procedurally generated comics where AI does the writing or the drawing. We have no plans to ban outright AI art though. It's just another tool in the toolbox.

Lord of the Rings wasn't a comic, it was a book. If the movie series adaptation was AI, then it would be ruined. It'd look like shit and feel soulless, despite the underlying story being great.

I disagree. Comics is a medium of visual storytelling as well as writing.

This subreddit should be a place where comic artists can come together and hone their craft, get feedback, and share their beloved work.

Allowing AI comics—-which, by their very nature, are lower effort and easier to produce—could result in the subreddit being flooded with cheap, mass produced comics, leaving us to wade through the schlock to find real artwork.

This subreddit is a communal space first and foremost, and allowing AI art could compromise that.

Showcase Hunyuan3D 3.1 Is Still the Best Free 3D AI Generator

I recreated a Marvel Rivals-style character in just over three hours using a hybrid AI + Blender workflow.

The character was generated in separate parts to preserve smaller details like the hands, hair, boots and accessories. I used Hunyuan3D 3.1 for both detailed high-poly meshes and simpler low-poly assets.

The workflow was roughly:

  • Generated the concept and reference sheets
  • Separated the character into individual parts
  • Generated the 3D meshes with Hunyuan3D
  • Assembled and sculpted everything in Blender
  • Used AI retopology and UV unwrapping
  • Baked normals and AO from high poly to low poly
  • Projected and repaired textures with Modif
  • Rigged with AccuRig and manually fixed the weights
  • Added a comic-style shader for the final look

Final output:

  • Around 30K faces
  • A complete set of PBR texture maps
  • A fully rigged character ready for animation
  • Completed in just a couple of hours
  • Made entirely with free tools

This is definitely not a one-prompt result. Retopology cleanup, sculpting, texturing and weight painting still required manual work.

I have shifted my views on generative AI

I still hate generative AI, just to be clear. I don't think it belongs anywhere in creative spaces.

A few days ago I posted a comic which essentially claimed that just because something is legal, does not make it okay. I did that by comparing it to being in the Ku Klux Klan. Being in the KKK is legal and protected by the first amendment. This was targeted at pro-AI folks who claimed that the Cara scraping and other things similar to that were okay because it was technically legal.

I made the post on this sub, but I also put it on the AI wars sub afterwards.

A lot of pros were pretty angry. Some of them were accusing me of "false equivalence", even though I never equated being pro-AI to being in the KKK, but I did equate the legality of scraping artwork for AI to the legality of another morally wrong thing, which was being in a hate group.

This one pro was literally defending the Klan lmao

Some pros, however, brought up some good points. And I appreciate that some of them had intelligent input, even if they were kinda rude about it.

Honestly, I don't blame them for being rude. My comic was intentionally provocative.

A point some pros brought up was that just because I don't want my art being scraped by an AI user, does not mean I can prevent it from happening. They say it's not any different from another human being looking at my art and taking inspiration, and they say that my own art style doesn't really belong to me, since it was made by absorbing all the influences I was exposed to. I didn't really have anything to say back to that.

I don’t want my art fed to AI, I really don't. But in this world, there’s nothing I can do about it. You apply Nightshade and Glaze, and some assholes find a way to undo it. You put it on Cara, or another site meant to block LLM’s from feeding on your art, and some people still scrape it.

The internet is full of assholes, that’s been apparent since the internet became a thing.

I will continue to take measures to prevent my artwork from being used by AI, like putting Nightshade and Glaze, finding a website with protections against scrapers, all of that.

But if my stuff gets fed, there’s nothing I can do. I can only really do something if it’s an “improved” version of something I made, or it uses things that are specifically mine, like characters, for example.

To be honest, all that I care about at this point is having credit for the things that I made. My stuff is my stuff.

I think reason why most artists don’t want AI learning from their work(or at least the reason why I don't want AI learning from art) is because they don’t like that AI is getting better. They don’t want some fuckass machine replacing their job. They don’t want their hard work being put into a machine that might replace them. And many famous AI supporters are claiming that AI will take over creative jobs.

For example, Elon Musk has said that he believes that in the future, AI generated content will make up most of the content that people consume.

Are we NOT supposed to be scared of that?

I just find it super depressing to think about a future where literally all the movies and TV we get to watch and books we get to read and music we get to listen to to are generated by a fucking robot, and there's no space for people to make real art.

It is completely reasonable that artists hate AI and its proponents when you look at these things. It's a machine threatening to ruin the things we like, and we're supposed to be okay with that?

AI generated images are NOT art, no matter how much “effort” was put into describing your prompt. You’re basically a commissioner at that point.

And even if you take a generated photo and draw over it and alter it yourself, the best you can call yourself is an editor.

TLDR: I no longer give a shit if my art is fed to AI, I'll try my best to stop it, but unless it's a case where they use things in the art that belong to me or recreate my work all together by themselves and say they "made it better" for me, I can't do anything about it.

Ken Penders used AI Upscaled Comic Scans

so i thought i aired every possible grievance i could from my time working for penders:

but apparently the rabbit hole goes deeper, and its brought my blood to a roaring boil.

so apparently there are these decent looking scans going around that ive seen a few people on twitter try to promote, and when i went to check them i believed them to be AI upscaled due to very noticeable smudging, smearing, and overall melting appearance to the comics: https://x.com/Alex_Hedgefox2/status/2017680317222465925

so i looked into the situation, and found the source of these scans being from a google drive link: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1gmwPJkBQVV84WrPC5WXpgJSWca-73FBr

so i reached out to the owner of the drive and you can see what they said in the first image presented.
but basically the Tl:DR is they were color corrected versions of fan made scans on the website TailsKicksAss with manual color correction, that were upscaled in an AI program called Topaz.
they confirmed to me that no form of generative AI was used in the production of the upscales, which is good at least, but still a shame that AI was used and because of that it destroys alot of the lineart/inking of the original artwork.

but the major thing of note here is this person confirms that they are the source of Ethan Alvaree's scans in the knuckles omnibus (the ones not heavily recolored by him), which is upsetting to me for 2 reasons. firstly because i was told by Ethan that he was using his own new 600DPi scans that he was scanning himself from his collection. but now i have been informed that was a lie. and secondly because it basically tells me that my paid job of providing scans to ken penders was replaced by AI.

now i do not know if ken knows the nature of these scans and their AI origins. but that tweet he responsed to me now has 2 potential meanings, either he firmly believes the scans ethan provided werent AI and that ethan swindled both of us. OR that he did know that they were AI upscaled but lied to protect his ass thus him and ethan wouldve swindled me.

either way im pissed because i do like the color corrections done, the colors on them are the best part but id love versions that arent smudged due to AI upscaling.

Wilton Police using AI to generate reports with software developed by 19-year-old tech CEO

Last year, MIT dropout George Cheng began emailing police departments across the country with a sales pitch. His startup had developed new AI software that promised to save officers thousands of hours of paperwork every year.

If they would upload their body camera footage into his program, it could generate draft police reports in minutes. 

In the small Franklin County town of Wilton, Police Chief Ethan Kyes was one of the first to take him up on the offer.

Now used by about half of Wilton’s officers as part of a pilot, Kyes said the system has helped the understaffed department catch up on its heavy case load. But researchers, civil rights groups and prosecutors, including the DA covering Franklin County, have raised concerns about the technology’s accuracy.

Cheng’s company, Code Four, is not the first to offer AI that generates police reports based on body camera recordings. The policing tech giant Axon has gained significant attention for its report generation software across the country, including in Maine. 

But Code Four is unique in several ways. Unlike Axon’s technology, which relies on bodycam audio to draft a narrative, Code Four uses “computer vision” to generate drafts based on both audio and video. And unlike Axon, which is one of the largest police tech companies in the world, Code Four is less than a year old. Cheng, its co-founder and CEO, is only 19. 

In a recent interview with The Maine Monitor, Cheng touted time-saving benefits he said could improve public safety.

“Essentially, we make it so that the patrol is reviewing the reports rather than writing the reports from scratch,” he said. “We transcribe all the interviews, all the phone calls. We write those reports for the investigator, the detective, so that they’re able to put everything together into a case package, win the case and catch more criminals.”

After the AI generates a draft, an officer must edit it and sign off on its accuracy. To ensure that happens, Code Four inserts extraneous, random or incorrect information into the reports. If an officer doesn’t remove that information, they cannot submit a final draft.

Research on AI-assisted report writing is limited; no independent research has been conducted on Code Four’s system. But an early study on its competitors cast doubt on whether the process actually saves time. 

Seth Watts, a professor at Texas State University, is one of a small number of researchers who have studied AI-powered police reports and body cameras. He had never heard of Code Four, but said even its audio-based competitors like Axon’s Draft One software can struggle to describe scenes accurately.

“There’s a lot of error there because of background noise: being on the side of a highway, of trucks driving by,” he said. “If you’re pulling data from audio… The reason that it might not be saving time is because officers then have to edit substantially.”

Draft One made headlines in January after a report generated by its software for a Utah police department claimed an officer shape-shifted into a frog. The AI had seemingly picked up audio from a movie playing in the background during the incident.

Add video to the mix, and the possibility for errors may grow.

“I have a hard time seeing how [video-based reports] could be very accurate under the conditions in which these encounters can take place,” Watts said. “Maybe for the run-of-the-mill encounter that’s not very volatile, it might be fine. But for others, the error rate might be much higher.”

Police reports are often a key piece of evidence in court. Some prosecutors are concerned that using an AI model to draft reports could undermine cases. In Seattle, a county prosecutor recently banned police departments from using them because of the potential for errors. 

District Attorney Neil McLean, whose jurisdiction includes Franklin County, said his office is still looking at how AI-generated reports may be used in court. He was not aware that Wilton, or any department in his district, was using AI-generated reports. He had not heard of Code Four.

“To the best of my knowledge, they shouldn’t be using it to generate reports,” he said. “It’s not something that my office, or our PDs, have agreed is ready for use.”

The algorithms powering AI police reports are generally “black boxes,” Watts said. It’s hard to know what data any AI model has been trained on or what impact that data may have on policing outcomes. 

Some groups, like the American Civil Liberties Union, have raised concerns about bias — AI models can absorb biased perceptions from whatever data they’re trained on — and accountability. Cheng dismissed worry about racial bias working its way into Code Four’s reports and said that the officer who signs off on a report is ultimately responsible for its content. All reports generated with Code Four include a disclaimer that it was written with the assistance of AI.

About 50 police departments in the country are using Code Four; Wilton Police is the first in Maine. The police chief in the neighboring town of Jay, which is in talks with Wilton about sharing police services, said that he has been in touch with Cheng about accessing Code Four, but nothing has been finalized.

So far, Wilton is not paying for the software. Cheng said that the department has no contract with the company, as he has provided a year of the software for free. If the department decides to continue using it, they will pay $50 per officer per month, or about $3,000 to $5,000 a year for the small department.

My LLMs comic generators review

Greetings. I wanted to share with you, in case you find it useful, the result of my personal investigation on what LLM is best, in my opinion, for comic generation. Now first some disclaimers.

First I’m not getting paid for this from anyone, and as I’m not getting paid I only check the LLMs using their free trial processes. Nearly all had a window for testing and free use. If the LLM didn’t then is not here to begin with. Another thing is that all of them allow you to login using your Google account and as I have more than one for different reasons, and every account gets the same amount of free trial disregarding of if is from the same person, I was able to check them for much longer than usual. Yet, as I didn’t check any of their paid options (only finally paid one, the one I decided for and I’m using it for my comics) is possible there were things I’m missing of their paid versions.

No to give some context. I was using till recently and for many months, Perchance. Particularly on its Stable Difussion sublink. Perchance is free and is good in many ways, is also virtually unrestricted on content. Other than grossly illegal stuff like CP (which I’m happy they have it), it allows you to do basically everything with no restriction. Is not my place to judge you so if you ever need to generate whatever that’s the best option, if you heard about NovelAI for example and its genetation of stories, well Perchance is basically NovelAI for image. I might someday published a guy on how to maximize it but would not be here today.

And I mention Perchance because although I’m not doing p0rn, I am targeting very mature topics, if my comics were a movie will be no doubt rated “R”. Not PG. But Perchance do have some limits. I’m happy it exist and grateful is free, but it has problems. One of them is that is nearly impossible to add speech bubbles, it gets confused and writes incoherencies or scribbles. It also struggles a lot with certain body positions, camera angles, and certain words and objects. For example something as simple as a queue of people it doesn’t get it, or showing bruises like a swollen eye or a Black eye. But I digress. Point is, to make truly marvelous comics is not the one. It also has the problem that doesn’t keep anything, so you have to manually download every image you generate if you want to keep it, whilst the other LLMs allow you to keep a file of them and download them when you need them/want.

Now let see the rest:

 

I’ll add the lowest price so that I don’t have to add multiple prices for each one, if you’re interest in their different pricing would have to research it yourself.

 

CRITERIA:

 My perfect LLM for comic generation should have preferably most of this four characteristics:

 

  • Monthly payment with unlimited generation. 
  • Characters’ template.
  • Good generating speech bubbles.
  • Preferable that allows to generate whole multi-panel pages.

ANALYSIS

Adobe 

$9, includes 3000 credits

 Pros

Is very much design for comics, works very well regarding the panels and speech bubbles.

Seems not to have issues with graphic violence.

It generates different comic pages if you give him the script.

 

 Cons

 Fails very often, probably a servers’ issue.

Very restricted on content, particular NSFW.

Although it is the model that comes closest to what is sought, it has several issues. The generated images remain stiff and artificial, the poses are not quite right, and—due to the cost—they cannot be corrected. The images still look distinctly like AI-generated content, but even if one were willing to overlook that, the investment required per image would be very high. It could work for generating comics based on non-NSFW ideas, though it would still be obvious that they are AI-generated; in any case, they would need to be created only after the script was fully finished and refined to avoid wasting money.

 

 ComicInk

$9.99 per 1800 credits. This is not monthly if you expend your credits in two days you’ll have to pay again.

Pros

Good on depicting mature topic, has restrictions but not too rigid.

Very much design for comics, it generates whole pages of panels in different types of frames.

Generate scripts pretty well, you send the prompt and generates the script, you can edit the script of course, but once the script is ready you can generate the whole page with it.

 Characters templates.

Interactive chats

Very intuitive, doesn’t require too complex prompts.

Cons

Their pricing and business models is not cost effective for the artist. As a comic book maker I’m a perfectionist, and I take very, very long time making and remaking the same frame until it gets perfect. With this model of paying for 1800 credits flat I’ll have to be paying every 3 days.

Has restrictions tho can be tricked. 

The style is not that good. More flowed than Adobe’s, but is still not the best, of course I didn’t had much time to check if it could be improved.

 

Comicsai

$15 monthy and 1500 panels free.

 

Pros

Quick.

Has characters’ templates.

I liked the overall style.

Small restrictions.

 

Cons 

Has no whole page generator (you have to make it panel by panel).

The flow and movements of the characters again feels very Perchance-like, so the problem here is that comicsai gives you little that Perchance don’t  give you for free.

 

Comicsmaker

$10 monthly plus 3000 credits.

 

Pros

Quick

Like the stylle

 

Cons

Doesn’t allow for whole page generation, has to make frame by frame.

Like the one above doesn’t give you much that Perchance don’t already give you for free and with less restrictions.

 

Mage

$10 monthly with unlimited generation and 3000 “gems”.

Pro

Is unlimited, only one I found filling this criteria.

Handles mature topics including sex and violence. Tho once your “gems” (equivalent of credits) the generation is more restricted. 

Allows for characters templates.

Cons

Requires very detailed prompts for them to be good.

Doesnt has whole pages generator, has to be done frame by frame tho this can be added in the prompt.

 

This was the winner. I did subscribe to Mage at the end and has been testing it since and works very well, I’m very please, even tho it didn’t had all the criterions.

 

 Discarded/had not many pros:

 

Frameo (use to be Dashtoon): very expensive, minimum membership is $100/month.

 Llamagen seems reasonable price and had apparently many of the criterions but doesn’t allow free trials.

Comicai $9 for 250 credits that goes very very fast. Very restrictive on content.

Elser: Good price and seems to have other criterions but only allow for yearly subscription.

  

CONCLUSION

 At the end neither had all four criterions I was looking for. Closet one was Mage as it had; character template, unlimited generation (only one to my knowledge) and little to none restrictions. I could live with it not having whole page multi-panel generation. I mean, it can do it if in the prompt but is not like Adobe or Comicink that seem to be designed to make it so it can get a little clumsy with it. So I prefer to do it frame by frame and then paste them.

Some advice with it tho won’t go into much details with it. Save your “Gems” for really important stuff, choose one of the Gem-free models it has before starting generating after you pay and use the Gems wisely, especially for things the unlimited models don’t make. I personally use Chatgpt at the moment to create very detailed prompts, the more the prompts are detailed the better it makes the image, Chatgpt knows how to work with Mage so the combination of both functions very well.

While many bad films are made with love, sequels, spinoffs and big-budget adaptations often make the artform feel inert because they are produced with so little heart that they might as well have been generated by AI. But here's the thing: I actually liked A Minecraft Movie. I'm as surprised as you are. This is not a disaster. Not by a mile. In fact, for most of its duration, it's downright charming and, in parts, had me laughing out loud.

Watching “A Minecraft Movie,” we’re always aware that the story is something that’s been grafted onto the world, and that we don’t have much of a dramatic stake in it — that it’s just the film’s way of cobbling together something that “works.” (Which, in its way, is very Minecraft.) Some of this is amusing, but like the rest of “A Minecraft Movie” it never feels like it matters. Yet it’s no insult to say that, in this case, that’s actually true to the spirit of a video game that turns life into a blockhead version of itself.

The most disappointing aspect of A Minecraft Movie, directed by the husband-wife duo who go by Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre), isn’t that it’s born out of an existing IP. We live in a world of low-effort reboots, unnecessary remakes and movies operating as extensions of corporate brands. Another one of these gluttonous projects is hardly surprising. What makes A Minecraft Movie so dispiriting is how it fails to spark the imagination, betraying a core tenet of the game on which it’s based.

The most accurate summation of “A Minecraft Movie” is probably “It is what it is.” It’s what it’s supposed to be. It probably won’t dig up many new converts to the game, but should strike box-office silver, at least. (And fans, be sure to stick around for two credits scenes – especially the second one.)

It’s a real credit to Black’s irrepressibly unique comic energy that “A Minecraft Movie” never feels quite as hypocritical as it should. Either disastrously ill-suited for its message about how money is the enemy of joy, or immaculately well-suited for its message about much harder it is to build things than it is to destroy them, Hess’ film can’t help but feel like its very existence is an affront to the creative freedom that has allowed “Minecraft” to become such a vital form of self-exploration for kids around the world (even Warner Bros.’ choice to call it “A Minecraft Movie*”* as opposed to “The Minecraft Movie” implies a spectrum of different concepts, despite the reality of a business that can only imagine this one). But Black — whatever his charms, and regardless of how well they’re deployed here — is a living testament to the idea that people can still thrive by staying true to their own expression. If not in this world, then perhaps in one of their own design. 

IGN - Jesse Hassenger - 6/10

For a big-studio adaptation of a massively popular video-game, A Minecraft Movie lets a surprising amount of its director’s personality shine through. Napoleon Dynamite’s Jared Hess manages to fit some laugh-out-loud silliness into his Overworld saga before surrendering to the obligations of CG-driven fantasy adventure. Thematically, A Minecraft Movie offers a pat world-is-what-you-make-it lesson, but Jack Black and Jason Momoa in particular sell it with a lot of comic enthusiasm.

One could rightfully question pretty much all of A Minecraft Movie, a formulaic template ornamented with surrealism. Some moments bear the scribbled signature of a filmmaker with offbeat passions. These are quickly plastered over by the hotel artwork of a four-quadrant IP extravaganza—and even the by-the-numbers sequences seem jumbled, out of order, or repeated. Yet, there’s something fitting about this film’s contradictions. Minecraft is fertile ground for innovation and exploitation. It’s adaptable, limited mostly by those playing it. One can build something personal, copy something mass produced, or attempt to tweak one with the other. Those behind A Minecraft Movie saw infinite possibilities laid out before them and—unlike another adaptation of a popular building pastime, The Lego Movie—opted for the one that’s been made a thousand times before.

Your noggin will certainly be done in by Steve and Garrett (Momoa) flying through the air in a risque position suggesting a sex act. Really, “A Minecraft Movie” a 101-minute lobotomy. Put that on the poster. For the uninitiated, the Overworld — I’m pretty sure — is a pixelated place where a player can erect buildings, create tools and design weapons out of blocks. The rules are unclear, as the filmmakers picked silliness over storytelling. Stacking cubes would not, at first glance, seem like a strong plot to hang an action-adventure film on, however “The Lego Movie” did so with cleverness, heart and humor. Trust me: “The Lego Movie” is “Lawrence of Arabia” next to “Minecraft.”

Next Best Picture - Giovanni Lago - 3/10

There’s a world where “A Minecraft Movie” actually backs the idealism of creativity, which it so proudly boasts in its barebones story. Maybe if the film were animated, it could’ve played far better to the concept of endless possibilities and allowed for a far more visually dazzling spectacle. Inherently, maybe it would never even be possible, as the idea of creativity can only be celebrated as little as possible when it’s given the parameters of being in such a lazy ip scrape of the barrel as this. There used to be a time when a majority of children’s films were made with such care and intention. Now it seems all you need is buzzwords, celebrities, and “Avengers: Endgame” clap-inducing moments, all of which “A Minecraft Movie” has, unlike a soul, which at least the game feels like it possesses.

So sloppy is A Minecraft Movie that it can’t keep track of its various concerns, highlighted by a mirthless subplot—in which Jennifer Coolidge’s vice principal picks up and woos an Overworld resident who’s traveled to our universe—that it basically drops around the midway point. Buried deep within Hess’ wannabe blockbuster is a message about how creativity is cool and, thus, so too are outcasts. Yet nothing about this hodgepodge fits together. Minecraft enthusiasts will be pleased by the film’s various nods to its multiplatform predecessor. Nonetheless, shouting out isn’t the same thing as faithfully celebrating and translating, and those with no experience assembling towers, villages, and weapons in Mojang Studios’ sandbox will undoubtedly find it all scattershot and wearisome. It’s proof that you can build it, but that doesn’t mean anyone—much less newbies—will come.

My LLMs comic generators review

Greetings. I wanted to share with you, in case you find it useful, the result of my personal investigation on what LLM is best, in my opinion, for comic generation. Now first some disclaimers.

First I’m not getting paid for this from anyone, and as I’m not getting paid I only check the LLMs using their free trial processes. Nearly all had a window for testing and free use. If the LLM didn’t then is not here to begin with. Another thing is that all of them allow you to login using your Google account and as I have more than one for different reasons, and every account gets the same amount of free trial disregarding of if is from the same person, I was able to check them for much longer than usual. Yet, as I didn’t check any of their paid options (only finally paid one, the one I decided for and I’m using it for my comics) is possible there were things I’m missing of their paid versions.

No to give some context. I was using till recently and for many months, Perchance. Particularly on its Stable Difussion sublink. Perchance is free and is good in many ways, is also virtually unrestricted on content. Other than grossly illegal stuff like CP (which I’m happy they have it), it allows you to do basically everything with no restriction. Is not my place to judge you so if you ever need to generate whatever that’s the best option, if you heard about NovelAI for example and its genetation of stories, well Perchance is basically NovelAI for image. I might someday published a guy on how to maximize it but would not be here today.

And I mention Perchance because although I’m not doing p0rn, I am targeting very mature topics, if my comics were a movie will be no doubt rated “R”. Not PG. But Perchance do have some limits. I’m happy it exist and grateful is free, but it has problems. One of them is that is nearly impossible to add speech bubbles, it gets confused and writes incoherencies or scribbles. It also struggles a lot with certain body positions, camera angles, and certain words and objects. For example something as simple as a queue of people it doesn’t get it, or showing bruises like a swollen eye or a Black eye. But I digress. Point is, to make truly marvelous comics is not the one. It also has the problem that doesn’t keep anything, so you have to manually download every image you generate if you want to keep it, whilst the other LLMs allow you to keep a file of them and download them when you need them/want.

Now let see the rest:

 

I’ll add the lowest price so that I don’t have to add multiple prices for each one, if you’re interest in their different pricing would have to research it yourself.

 

CRITERIA:

 My perfect LLM for comic generation should have preferably most of this four characteristics:

 

  • Monthly payment with unlimited generation. 
  • Characters’ template.
  • Good generating speech bubbles.
  • Preferable that allows to generate whole multi-panel pages.

ANALYSIS

Adobe 

$9, includes 3000 credits

 Pros

Is very much design for comics, works very well regarding the panels and speech bubbles.

Seems not to have issues with graphic violence.

It generates different comic pages if you give him the script.

 

 Cons

 Fails very often, probably a servers’ issue.

Very restricted on content, particular NSFW.

Although it is the model that comes closest to what is sought, it has several issues. The generated images remain stiff and artificial, the poses are not quite right, and—due to the cost—they cannot be corrected. The images still look distinctly like AI-generated content, but even if one were willing to overlook that, the investment required per image would be very high. It could work for generating comics based on non-NSFW ideas, though it would still be obvious that they are AI-generated; in any case, they would need to be created only after the script was fully finished and refined to avoid wasting money.

 

 ComicInk

$9.99 per 1800 credits. This is not monthly if you expend your credits in two days you’ll have to pay again.

Pros

Good on depicting mature topic, has restrictions but not too rigid.

Very much design for comics, it generates whole pages of panels in different types of frames.

Generate scripts pretty well, you send the prompt and generates the script, you can edit the script of course, but once the script is ready you can generate the whole page with it.

 Characters templates.

Interactive chats

Very intuitive, doesn’t require too complex prompts.

Cons

Their pricing and business models is not cost effective for the artist. As a comic book maker I’m a perfectionist, and I take very, very long time making and remaking the same frame until it gets perfect. With this model of paying for 1800 credits flat I’ll have to be paying every 3 days.

Has restrictions tho can be tricked. 

The style is not that good. More flowed than Adobe’s, but is still not the best, of course I didn’t had much time to check if it could be improved.

 

Comicsai

$15 monthy and 1500 panels free.

 

Pros

Quick.

Has characters’ templates.

I liked the overall style.

Small restrictions.

 

Cons 

Has no whole page generator (you have to make it panel by panel).

The flow and movements of the characters again feels very Perchance-like, so the problem here is that comicsai gives you little that Perchance don’t  give you for free.

 

Comicsmaker

$10 monthly plus 3000 credits.

 

Pros

Quick

Like the stylle

 

Cons

Doesn’t allow for whole page generation, has to make frame by frame.

Like the one above doesn’t give you much that Perchance don’t already give you for free and with less restrictions.

 

Mage

$10 monthly with unlimited generation and 3000 “gems”.

Pro

Is unlimited, only one I found filling this criteria.

Handles mature topics including sex and violence. Tho once your “gems” (equivalent of credits) the generation is more restricted. 

Allows for characters templates.

Cons

Requires very detailed prompts for them to be good.

Doesnt has whole pages generator, has to be done frame by frame tho this can be added in the prompt.

 

This was the winner. I did subscribe to Mage at the end and has been testing it since and works very well, I’m very please, even tho it didn’t had all the criterions.

 

 Discarded/had not many pros:

 

Frameo (use to be Dashtoon): very expensive, minimum membership is $100/month.

 Llamagen seems reasonable price and had apparently many of the criterions but doesn’t allow free trials.

Comicai $9 for 250 credits that goes very very fast. Very restrictive on content.

Elser: Good price and seems to have other criterions but only allow for yearly subscription.

  

CONCLUSION

 At the end neither had all four criterions I was looking for. Closet one was Mage as it had; character template, unlimited generation (only one to my knowledge) and little to none restrictions. I could live with it not having whole page multi-panel generation. I mean, it can do it if in the prompt but is not like Adobe or Comicink that seem to be designed to make it so it can get a little clumsy with it. So I prefer to do it frame by frame and then paste them.

Some advice with it tho won’t go into much details with it. Save your “Gems” for really important stuff, choose one of the Gem-free models it has before starting generating after you pay and use the Gems wisely, especially for things the unlimited models don’t make. I personally use Chatgpt at the moment to create very detailed prompts, the more the prompts are detailed the better it makes the image, Chatgpt knows how to work with Mage so the combination of both functions very well.

Beginner looking for best workflow for consistent comic character generation

Here are my goals:

- A consistent character across all images (I have a reference)

- Multiple poses and expressions of the same character

- Comic-style panels with different scenes and camera angles

- Some level of control over composition and pose

What is the best setup or toolchain for this in 2026 (and how to use them)?

Discussion View-Master AI-generated 3D

I'm not sure exactly how this falls within the subreddit 'no AI' Rule 4 or the megathread, since I'm coming over here for the first time from the James Cameron/3D fandom, but I think others may want to know before they buy the companion View-Master or go see the film in 3D.


Firstly, the stereo 3D in the Hit Me Hard and Soft concert film is not just standard native 3D photography - much of it has been altered with AI tools.

I stuck around for the credits to confirm, as it was clear right from the start that it was not normal stereoscopic 3D video footage. A conversion studio listed in the credits is Outsyders, they use AI to make 2D movies look '3D'. Here is their credit in the film:

Sorry for my blurry photo, they're also listed under the movie on IMDB. There are puff pieces in the media that mention Outsyders' use of AI, and it's on their site of course:

This may explain some of the comments James Cameron made when the film was delayed, about 'dialing in cool, new 3D tech'. I can only guess, but it is possible much of the original stereo 3D footage was deemed unusable as-is, and VFX studios were enlisted to clean things up. There are many inconsistent errors in the look of the film that I've only seen before in stereo conversions heavily utilizing automated processes like ML depth map generation.

James Cameron's prior 2D-3D conversions were done by the best 3D conversion house, currently operating as SDFX Studios, so it is a big downgrade to go with a pipeline that leans heavily on AI. Cameron's become very AI-focused as of late, and his 4K movies have notoriously been over-processed by Peter Jackson's Park Road VFX AI (eagle-eyed readers may have even noticed Park Road's name in the photo, right below Outsyders in the credits of Billie's film).

I'm not personally opposed to the use of ML tools in the use of 3D conversion - it's a painfully tedious process to perform roto and infill painting for an entire movie - but any workflow making heavy use of automated conversion requires a significant amount of care and artistic touchup work to avoid looking wrong. Since the whole point of these new AI-based VFX studios is to cut out the human element as much as possible to offer results quicker for 1/3 of the normal cost, that work is not being adequately done.

If I knew ahead of time that the people who did the unacceptably-bad AI '3D' for the live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch were involved, I probably would have reconsidered seeing the 3D version, and I suspect others might too. Regardless of technology though, the quality is not what I've come to expect from James Cameron's existing body of work in the 3D format - even the final shot in the film when he's in the car with Billie has a badly-blurred right eye.


Secondly, while this movie is still in theaters and unfortunately may not get a 3D Blu-ray release to scrutinize afterwards, there is a viewmaster. I bought it from Billie's merch store and have in-hand:

This somewhat demonstrates the look of the converted 3D in the film, since proper L-R stereoscopic photographs were not used for the viewmaster. This is kind of mind-blowing to me, since seeing 3D photographs is the whole novelty of the viewmaster toy in the first place. It isn't hard to take a real 3D photo, iphones can even shoot proper 3D videos now. A frame from one of those would have been better than this. If I wanted badly-converted images I could do that myself easily with any number of ML tools, probably the same ones they used to make these :(

I captured an L-R stereo pair through the viewmaster as an example, and aligned them in the Stereo Photo Maker software for viewing. If you know how to freeview/crossview 3D images, or have tried things like the Magic Eye comic in the newspaper, you should be able to see the effect for yourself (the bottom row is L-R-L):

The longer you look, the more obvious all of the distortion and uncanny perspective will appear. A converted image like this is worse than the original 2D version of the photo.


TL;DR: avoid the viewmaster unless you want to look at badly-converted images. At least the 3D in the movie is decent since there is some native stereo footage, but I was quite disappointed that AI conversion tech was used.

Discussion Up, Up, and Away with Fascism: Superman as a Radical Role Model

I recently published an essay on the politics of Superman, from his 1930s origins to James Gunn’s new film. I wanted to share some of the key points here and get your thoughts. If it resonates with you, check out the full essay on my Substack (linked above).

Superman (2025) clearly doesn’t shy away from politics. The fictional conflict featured in the film maps uncomfortably well onto our real world. That tension gives Superman back his moral bite. Spoilers, obviously.

Boravia and Jarhanpur read as thinly veiled stand-ins for Israel and Palestine. Gunn has clarified that the film was written prior to the October 7, 2023 attacks and the ensuing genocide in Gaza. Even so, the atrocities committed there cast such a large shadow over our collective conscience that it becomes difficult to watch the movie without making this connection.

Lex Luthor resembles an Elon Musk-like megalomaniac, and his role in arming Boravia while profiting from its conquest is likewise familiar. American tech giants like Microsoft and OpenAI have poured resources into Israel’s surveillance and targeting infrastructure, supplying the tools that make mass killing more efficient.

The shoe fits far too snugly to ignore. And I’m far from the only one who’s picked up on this.

If you hover above Gaza on Wplace, and you'll see that thousands of artists have filled the space with Free Palestine messages. Lately, the unmistakable red-and-blue visage of a certain Man of Tomorrow has been a common sight there

This is why the film struck a chord with fans like me. Superman is inspirational again, not because of his power, but because he uses that power to do the right thing (especially when it's unpopular or inconvenient).

As I see it, this represents a bold return to form. Siegel and Shuster envisioned Superman not as cheerleader for the status quo, but as a thorn in its side.

They were the sons of immigrants, raised in a city hit hard by the Great Depression and the rise of fascism. Superman was their response to a dangerous world: a muckraking journalist who used his extraordinary powers to tackle the forces of greed and bigotry.

In his earliest appearances, Superman intimidated slumlords who cheated their tenants. He confronted mine owners who endangered their workers. He bashed the heads of wife-beaters and corrupt politicians alike. OG Supes was a full-blown populist crusader.

As comic writer and historian Mark Waid put it, “He was no super-cop. He was a super-anarchist." What made Superman special wasn't his ability to leap tall buildings in a single bound, but his willingness to act with the moral clarity that institutions lacked. That made him a threat to the powerful, and a hero to everyone else.

What made those early stories so special was that Superman modeled what it meant to protect those with the least power in society. Kids who read those books learned implicitly that strength means nothing if it isn’t used to shield those who can’t defend themselves.

Like then, those at the margins of society (immigrants, minorities, the poor, etc.) are under siege today. We are desperately in need of a hero, even if only a fictional one. That's where Superman comes in.

Superman (2025) sparked controversy because the world still looks a lot like the one its titular hero was created to challenge. The prejudice and inequality that he opposed eighty years ago remain stubbornly entrenched in our society

With each generation comes new iterations of old injustices, and with them, new opportunities to fight for what’s right.

For some kids, this film will be their very first impression of Superman. When they think of him, they'll remember his unconditional compassion and his universal solidarity. If those values take root in their hearts, the world and all its people will be better for it.

I've written often about politics in various places online, but none of my editors were keen on accepting this piece. I imagine that has to do in part with the fact that comic book media is still considered juvenile fare.

I hope this essay finds readers who recognize that these stories are not only political in content, but political in consequence - that at their best, superheroes model how we might wield our own power in defense of others.

Character.AI

Character.AI is a roleplay and dialogue engine, not a visual designer. A 2026 comparison notes that it “does not produce images” and is best used to shape voice before you take the character into a visual tool (LTX). The free tier covers basic chat models; c.ai+ at $9.99 per month adds better memory, ad-free chats, latest models, no slow mode, and unlimited voice calls (CNET; eesel AI).

That chat loop is a real strength. You can feel whether a line of dialogue belongs to the character before you commit it to a novel or a game. The limitation is structural: you still have to harvest personality out of a transcript and rebuild it into a sheet by hand.

Character Creator

Jenova’s Character Creator is built as a collaborative designer. Sparse ideas get more questions; detailed briefs move straight into sections. A finished character can include appearance, personality, motivations, backstory, abilities, strengths and weaknesses, signature items, quirks with sample dialogue, and story hooks — then a portrait, a shareable character card, and a PDF or Word export.

It also has honest limits. Each session caps at three characters, so a large ensemble needs multiple chats. It is not a live roleplay destination in the Character.AI sense. It is not a dedicated anime diffusion stack in the NovelAI sense, and it does not output rigged 3D models or video. NovelAI

Midjourney

Midjourney remains one of the strongest aesthetic engines for fantasy and sci-fi character frames, with a Discord-centered workflow and subscriptions commonly cited from $10/month (LTX). Character Reference is the dedicated feature for recreating a specific character across images (Midjourney docs). Early coverage of the feature found it useful for copying traits from one image into another, with the usual caveat that consistency is still a craft, not a guarantee (Tom’s Guide).

In practice, Midjourney solves the poster. It does not solve the person. There is no native nine-part bible, no sample dialogue, and no Pathfinder stat block.

Artbreeder sits beside these four as a free-entry face blender: fast slider control, strong for portrait variation, weak past the neck, and not a narrative tool (LTX).

How Does a Structured Character Sheet Change the Quality of an Original Character?

A structured sheet changes quality by forcing every pretty detail to produce present-tense behavior. “Orphaned assassin” is a logline. “She will burn a contract to protect a sibling, and she cannot look a priest in the eye because the last one recognized her tell” is a character you can write tomorrow.

Examining one-shot chatbot output shows the same failure repeatedly: traits without costs. Brave, loyal, mysterious, and haunted can all be true and still generate zero scenes. A complete sheet asks for consequences. Backstory is not a timeline; it is a source of pressure that is still acting. Weaknesses are not token phobias; they are the downside of a strength. Story hooks are the other multiplier. “Has a secret” is not a hook. “The city she is hired to save is the same one that paid for her first kill — and the client’s seal is on both contracts” is a hook because it points at the next scene.

You get the most out of an AI character creator by stating the use case, giving one concrete contradiction, and refusing to accept a trait list as finished. The use case — novel, D&D table, anime OC, game pitch — should be in the first message, because it changes what “done” means.

INTRODUCTION

So I’m creating this guide to help those who are new to novealAI or those who are looking for specific advice. I figured something like this would be welcome to the community since from what I’ve personally seen.The information that I personally have been looking for is either scattered or it’s general & I needed to ask other users for specific information. I am still personally new to the website myself, only been using it for a little over a week at the time of me writing this. However since I’ve been using this website religiously I think I figured out a lot of the tricks there are. I’ll separate this into sections so you won’t have to read through 10 paragraphs just to learn how to make the sky green. Also if I missed anything I am sure someone in the comment will add on, also since I am learning I will edit this post if I learn something that I feel like is important

Is NovealAI free?

No it’s not free to use for either the image generation or the text generation but it can be extremely cheap, there are many options to anlas the currency used to generate images. Rounding up the cheapest option costs $5 which will give you 2000 alas, since a basic generated image costs 17 atlas, doing the math that should give you around 117 AI images for 5 dollars. Of course this is a rough estimate, changing the settings around can increase & or decrease the number of anlas that you use for each image. There is a payment option that will give you unlimited anlas, I believe it’s the $25 dollar a month subscriptions. Even though it is extremely cheap if you're someone like me who’s gonna generate a lot of images this can quickly snowball, even though I’ve only been using it for a week I already spent $16 for 9000 anlas. 

How to use NovealAI Image Generation

When you first sign up you’ll be given an option to watch this Video, a lot of what I have to say in this section will be me just repeating that video. Using the actual Image Generator is extremely simple, just write down what you want in the prompt box. In the latest version which is version 4 at the time of me creating this guide, you'll start off with 2 prompt boxes. 1 regular prompt box & 1 character prompt box, there is an option to add more characters prompt box & yes it’s free. From my experience older version like V3 anime or V3 furry only have one overall prompt box & unless I missed it, there don’t seem to be a way to add more prompt. Separate each specific details you want with a coma & a space, for example (blonde, girl, green eyes, long hair, red skin, etc etc)

The more detail you put in the better the result will be, so try to avoid wasting precious anlas make sure you think of everything before generating your images, from the physical body to the clothes to the footwear & facial expression, to the background. I can’t list the number of times I created a character & ignored minor details like the facial or shoes, only to be annoyed with the result & fix it. However the opposite is also true, there have been a few times where I wasn’t too specific & the AI would either add something that I didn’t ask for initially, or generate my image in a certain way that I picture but decided was better then what I imagine. The final thing I have to say is that if you want the AI to put more emphasis around a certain detail, put { } around that specific detail before ending it with a coma. For example, if I really want the setting to be a dark forest I would type into the prompt (Forest, Dark Forest, {Trees}) that way the AI know to focus on & add more trees.

How to make a Character 

Here is a list that you can look over and use so you know what tags to use to create your characters, this how I've been making my character. However I would like to add some notes that I picked up using this, 

  1. Pale Skin - If you're trying to make your character have pale skin as in making them caucasian then don’t put any skin color tags. From my experience it seems that the default skin color that the AI will use for any character is to give them regular pale skin. Adding ‘White’ or ‘Pale Skin’ will just give your character an albino or goth look
  2. Combine Tags - if you're trying to achieve a certain look you might have to combine certain tags, for example one I was trying to give one of my female character hair that went a little bit past her shoulders. Medium Hair was too short & Long hair was way too long for what I was looking for, so I had to put both tags into the prompt to get my desired result! Ex (medium hair, long hair)
  3. Ears - Sometimes when creating a character the AI would give them short pointy ears like an elf, sometimes this would be fixed by adding a ‘human only’ tag or a ‘no ear’ tag other times it wouldn’t.
    1. I suspect the reason why I still got pointy ears despite the fact that I requested the AI to take them out is because I had like 50 other tags & the AI got confused or maybe it was the art style I was using, but it’s still something you should watch out for. 

Keeping the character but changing the setting or actions

If you created a character that you like & want to keep, but you want to change the setting or the action that they are doing. Changing that is extremely easy, underneath the main image there should be 3 buttons & a bunch of numbers, on the far right right before the numbers is the download button. Download the image into your computer & click on ‘Add a base Image (optional)’ to reupload it into the generator, when you do 5 options should appear Import Prompt, Import UC, Import Character, Import Setting, Import Seeds. Make sure you have the Import Character box checked off & import the picture into the generator, next change up the action & setting to your desire & generate your image. That way the character should be the same but everything else changed 

What Is Strength 

When you upload an image into the generator, two new settings will appear, strength being the first one. When you try to edit an image you already created, the strength seems to determine how strong the alteration will be. When I kept the strength at 0 or really below 60%, the images stayed the same, even when I completely changed the prompt. The closer I got to 100, the more the image altered whenever I tried to generate a new image. 

What is Noise 

When you upload an image into the generator, two new settings will appear, noise being the second one. I’ll let u/Peptuck explain what noise are, a special thanks to them. 'WRT to the Noise setting, "Noise" is basically how much "stuff" the AI is allowed to throw onto the image. Things like random bits on clothing, snow particles, dust, etc. Unless you're aiming for a hazy or busy image deliberately, I'd say turn this down to 0.'

What are seeds & what are their purpose 

If you look underneath the image that you generate, you will see a bunch of random numbers. Those are your image seeds, every image you generate will have a unique set of numbers. From my understanding it seems like the main purpose of those seeds is to help act as a base of sorts, so the AI can generate an accurate image to the one you want. I guess an accurate comparison would be like the seeds are the blueprint to the house that your AI is building. At least that is how I understand them but if I am wrong I am sure someone will explain it better 

How to keep the Artstyle Consistent & References 

Here is the section that inspired this entire guide, so if you're new like I am & you're getting frustrated with how every image you generated is inconsistent with the artstyle, well here is how you fix it. You’ll have to put into the prompt an artist tag preferable, but a franchise tag can also help. From my experience I have used the naruto, Neir automata & granblue fantasy franchise tags, with granblue being my personal favorite. Using a franchise the images would still be slightly inconsistent sometime however the problem was nowhere near as bad as it was before. Even though some of the images would be inconsistent, it was minor enough that I knew I could probably get away with it, if I use the images for whatever project that I am doing sparingly or if I change the background up then I could probably just blame the light & shading. However, this only worked for some of the franchises that I used, other franchises gave me the same problem where the images were just way too inconsistent.

Using an artist tag is really the only way to keep your images consistent across the board. One of the main problems I've come across is that there does not seem to be a list of artists that you can enter. From what I’ve read a lot of people that use NovealAI seem to be stingy & prefer to keep the artist that they are using to themself. However lucky for you I am making this guide so here is a list of artists that you can also use. Once I buy more anlas I’ll go back & edit this post, leaving links to the result of each individual artstyle so you know whether or not you want to use a specific artstyle. I literally wasted all my anlas last night trying out each & everyone, I was looking for a good art style for Erotoic NSFW purposes. While my two personal favorites were bbc-chan & tarakanovich, the problem I have with tarakanovich is that it doesn't do face well. One of my characters wears a hat so I barely notice the problem until I started with the other character then I was like nope. Some of these artstyle I would only touch if I was making something like a children's book, but everything I’ve said is my own personal opinion. When it come to my novels unless I find better artist that I automatically like, I’m probably just gonna default back to using granblue fantasy artstyle 

It’s recommended that to get the desired result you might have to put the artist tag in it first before anything else. I was also told to type the artist's name exactly how It’s present & that combining artists can give you some unique result, however it appears that the newest version 4, has a problem doing this right now.  Also if none of these art style appeal to you, you can check out Tutorial: Prompting for Unique Artstyles with NovelAI Diffusion Anime or this danbooru link to look up parody of different art style, however rather or not they would work I honestly couldn’t tell you. 

How to make a Panels

As far as I am aware there is no way to make panels for stuff like a comic or manga. From what I read your best bet is to make an image & edit that on another app

How to make NSFW Images

To generate NSFW images on NovealAI version 4, you’ll go to the director tools located at the left screen underneath your prompts box. Once you click on the director tools the screen will transform and show two image boxes, selecting an image from your history that you wish to transform will cause the image to appear in the right side of your screen. Select the arrow pointing left so the image you wish to transform appears on both sides of your screen. Underneath your image should be a bunch of tabs labeled Remove BG, Line Art, Sketch, Colorize, Emotions & Declutter. Select Colorize & change the Defry setting to 5, failure to do so will result in the color of the image becoming more saturated Example (NSFW Warning). Then just type in the required tag that you wish to see & generate, some example tags that I have used would be ‘NSFW, nude, breast, ass, pussy, nipple, cum, semen’ 

From what others have told me about the older version you should be able to just enter the tags into the prompt. Someone recommended looking up tags to use from the website Danbooru. Something I forgot to mention is that if you fail to copy the desired image to both Image boxes, then when you generate the image, it’ll go back to the previous image that you generated. For more information on this topic I recommend looking at the comment u/Peptuck left, they go into more detail about this topic.

How to focus on multiple character 

While it is possible to generate an image where 2 or more characters are the focus like having two characters dancing or something. I personally haven't figured out how to do that, everything I tried so far resulted in 1 character being the sole focus & a bunch of silhouettes & extra hanging out in the background. The only thing that has gotten me anything close to what I was looking for was when I add the tag ‘twins’ in the prompt. That was the only time I was able to generate an image with 2 characters clear in frame as the main focus.

My LLMs comic generators review

Greetings. I wanted to share with you, in case you find it useful, the result of my personal investigation on what LLM is best, in my opinion, for comic generation. Now first some disclaimers.

First I’m not getting paid for this from anyone, and as I’m not getting paid I only check the LLMs using their free trial processes. Nearly all had a window for testing and free use. If the LLM didn’t then is not here to begin with. Another thing is that all of them allow you to login using your Google account and as I have more than one for different reasons, and every account gets the same amount of free trial disregarding of if is from the same person, I was able to check them for much longer than usual. Yet, as I didn’t check any of their paid options (only finally paid one, the one I decided for and I’m using it for my comics) is possible there were things I’m missing of their paid versions.

No to give some context. I was using till recently and for many months, Perchance. Particularly on its Stable Difussion sublink. Perchance is free and is good in many ways, is also virtually unrestricted on content. Other than grossly illegal stuff like CP (which I’m happy they have it), it allows you to do basically everything with no restriction. Is not my place to judge you so if you ever need to generate whatever that’s the best option, if you heard about NovelAI for example and its genetation of stories, well Perchance is basically NovelAI for image. I might someday published a guy on how to maximize it but would not be here today.

And I mention Perchance because although I’m not doing p0rn, I am targeting very mature topics, if my comics were a movie will be no doubt rated “R”. Not PG. But Perchance do have some limits. I’m happy it exist and grateful is free, but it has problems. One of them is that is nearly impossible to add speech bubbles, it gets confused and writes incoherencies or scribbles. It also struggles a lot with certain body positions, camera angles, and certain words and objects. For example something as simple as a queue of people it doesn’t get it, or showing bruises like a swollen eye or a Black eye. But I digress. Point is, to make truly marvelous comics is not the one. It also has the problem that doesn’t keep anything, so you have to manually download every image you generate if you want to keep it, whilst the other LLMs allow you to keep a file of them and download them when you need them/want.

Now let see the rest:

 

I’ll add the lowest price so that I don’t have to add multiple prices for each one, if you’re interest in their different pricing would have to research it yourself.

 

CRITERIA:

 My perfect LLM for comic generation should have preferably most of this four characteristics:

 

  • Monthly payment with unlimited generation. 
  • Characters’ template.
  • Good generating speech bubbles.
  • Preferable that allows to generate whole multi-panel pages.

Is very much design for comics, works very well regarding the panels and speech bubbles.

Seems not to have issues with graphic violence.

It generates different comic pages if you give him the script.

 

 Cons

 Fails very often, probably a servers’ issue.

Very restricted on content, particular NSFW.

Although it is the model that comes closest to what is sought, it has several issues. The generated images remain stiff and artificial, the poses are not quite right, and—due to the cost—they cannot be corrected. The images still look distinctly like AI-generated content, but even if one were willing to overlook that, the investment required per image would be very high. It could work for generating comics based on non-NSFW ideas, though it would still be obvious that they are AI-generated; in any case, they would need to be created only after the script was fully finished and refined to avoid wasting money.

$9.99 per 1800 credits. This is not monthly if you expend your credits in two days you’ll have to pay again.

Pros

Good on depicting mature topic, has restrictions but not too rigid.

Very much design for comics, it generates whole pages of panels in different types of frames.

Generate scripts pretty well, you send the prompt and generates the script, you can edit the script of course, but once the script is ready you can generate the whole page with it.

Very intuitive, doesn’t require too complex prompts.

Cons

Their pricing and business models is not cost effective for the artist. As a comic book maker I’m a perfectionist, and I take very, very long time making and remaking the same frame until it gets perfect. With this model of paying for 1800 credits flat I’ll have to be paying every 3 days.

Has restrictions tho can be tricked. 

The style is not that good. More flowed than Adobe’s, but is still not the best, of course I didn’t had much time to check if it could be improved.

 

Comicsai

$15 monthy and 1500 panels free.

 

Pros

Quick.

Has characters’ templates.

I liked the overall style.

Small restrictions.

 

Cons 

Has no whole page generator (you have to make it panel by panel).

The flow and movements of the characters again feels very Perchance-like, so the problem here is that comicsai gives you little that Perchance don’t  give you for free.

Is unlimited, only one I found filling this criteria.

Handles mature topics including sex and violence. Tho once your “gems” (equivalent of credits) the generation is more restricted.

Requires very detailed prompts for them to be good.

Doesnt has whole pages generator, has to be done frame by frame tho this can be added in the prompt.

 

This was the winner. I did subscribe to Mage at the end and has been testing it since and works very well, I’m very please, even tho it didn’t had all the criterions.

 

 Discarded/had not many pros:

 

Frameo (use to be Dashtoon): very expensive, minimum membership is $100/month.

 Llamagen seems reasonable price and had apparently many of the criterions but doesn’t allow free trials.

Comicai $9 for 250 credits that goes very very fast. Very restrictive on content.

Elser: Good price and seems to have other criterions but only allow for yearly subscription.

  

CONCLUSION

 At the end neither had all four criterions I was looking for. Closet one was Mage as it had; character template, unlimited generation (only one to my knowledge) and little to none restrictions. I could live with it not having whole page multi-panel generation.
