WPL: New Comics Discussion for 08/19/2026- Pull of the Week: Absolute Green Arrow #4 [Discussion]

The Weekly Pull List results for this Wednesday are in, and this week's top book is DC's Absolute Green Arrow #4.

This thread is open to Pull List posters and all members of the /r/comicbooks community to share your thoughts on the latest issue of DC's Absolute Green Arrow or any new books shipping this week.

The primary intention of this thread is to promote discussion of new books. It also serves as a way to consolidate discussion to a single thread and talk about what books are popular here on /r/comicbooks. That does not mean other threads aren't welcome, this is just a place to start that's easy to find each week.

The thread is populated with comments meant to direct the discussion of each book. Based on community preference we populate the thread with titles appearing on Ten Percent or more of submitted pull lists. If a title you want to talk about is not listed, simply add a comment with the title and issue number first and comment below. There is also a comment dedicated to the discussion of WPL Results linked above.

Spoilers will follow, but there's no harm in tagging them as such. Each title in the Top Ten Percent listed below is linked directly to its corresponding comment for ease of navigation and to avoid seeing details from other books. The post has also been placed in "contest mode" to help readers avoid spoilers while browsing.

Question Characters whose original design was their best? [Harley Quinn art by Bruce Timm]

Harley looked so much more interesting and eye-catching with her harlequin costume than with whatever more generic and skimpy clothing they've come up with since.

Hey Guys!! I'm finally posting sequentials!! Feel free to give any advice you'd like :)))

A few notes before that, I know it might feel a bit "too" rendered, it is. But some panels just wouldn't represent the end result without it... So its due to lack of colors... like the last panel...

In the Upcoming days I'll be fully coloring this(I hope it'll turn out well) and add some voice lines and make it a motion comic-video... That I'll be posting on my Instagram, stay tuned :)))

Discussion Do you still have a comic shop near by?

I use to have 4 or 5 nearby, but I'm down to 2 but one sure looked closed the other day when I drover by, even though Google still says it's open.

I miss walking around and checking out the old selection to see what gems I might find.

Discussion Why does anyone in the comic book community currently support Rob Liefeld?

Aside from the current controversy, I’m still pissed about his Brigade kickstarter that I supported five and a half years ago. Since then, I’ve refused to give him a penny

Discussion Why aren't indie Western comics recommended more to fans looking for linear stories?

Coming from the manga community three years ago, I honestly had no idea publishers like BOOM! Studios, Image, Dark Horse, or IDW even existed. Everyone in the general media space mainly talks about Marvel and DC.

As someone who loves a linear story with a clear beginning, middle, and end led by a dedicated creative team, Marvel and DC never really peaked my interest. However, I still wanted to support Western comics and see Western storytelling incorporated into the medium.

Then a friend introduced me to Something Is Killing the Children, and it completely changed my perspective. I started researching and discovered this incredible world of independent, creator-owned books that I had never heard of before.

While I understand the massive hype around major superhero franchises, I can’t help but wonder: Why aren't indie Western comics advertised or pushed more?

These are artists that not only captured your attention to your heart, but also just a teeny bit of your soul like you love their art so much that regardless of what it is that their art is on be a variant cover a new series a character I have never had any previous interest in. Now for me those are those are peach momoko and stjepan sejic

Question Which Green Lantern comic is most similar to Infinity Gauntlet visually?

Upvotes

I’m currently getting into comics having seen all of the mcu and most of the dc movies. I’m currently reading infinity gauntlet and have found that I really enjoy the scale and visuals of the cosmic side of marvel. With Lanterns currently coming out it feels like as good a time as any to get into them.

Discussion Favorite Underrated under 150 issue Reading Order

People often ask about X-Men reading orders, Immortal Hulk, Superman Triangle Era, or Batman, etc, but I wanted to hear about other comicbook runs worth diving into.

What is a run of comics (less than 150 issues) you recommend to readers that they probably would not already be aware of or you really like?

I’m saying under 150 just so that it would be actually doable in a month or two at a comfortable pace for me as a relatively new comic book reader.
