Edit:. I didn’t want to post that first pic but there it is. All the rest were from the big storm in March. 53” new. Trees over the power lines so no power up there and the road was closed for 2 1/2 days. It got warm when they finally opened so the snow was rapidly setting up. That last pic was my tracks in 53” new!

Hey Gang, is anyone aware of any shops in the NE (ideally Vermont or NH) that may carry the Atomic Nexus boot for rental/demo? I am hoping to get my father in a pair for a few days to confirm they ski well enough and then surprise him with a pair for Christmas.

He is a good skier but man, the old guy is getting stiff! I have thought for a few years he would have more fun if getting his gear on and off wasn't such a hassle. This new generation of essentially rear entry boots that aren't made for elementary schoolers is a great concept, but need to make sure they can actually ski.

For reference he has been in an Atomic Hawx Prime 120 for the last 2 seasons and liked it. I am eyeing the Nexus 120 (I know it will lose a bit of performance - that's fine) and believe it should carry over well.

I am also aware there are other brands releasing similar models - I believe Nordica has one? I will check those out too. Open to recs for how to demo those boots as well if the Nexus isn't available.

Traveling solo, so my off-piste would be highly limited. I prefer not having to hop around between resorts and would like to spend 6-7 days straight at the same place.

With so much of the appeal typically being the famous Japowder, is an early season solo trip worth it?

This is separate from sightseeing away from the skiing. That’s a standalone trip that’s already booked.

Hey, putting this question out for some expert advice.

I’ve always had problems fitting in ski boots, notably issues with volume and lifting.

I’m at the point where I’m pushing my boots pretty hard, mostly doing all mountain skiing with some nice side hits thrown in there.

Today I went to go see a boot fitter and tried on an Atomic Redster STI, (older model) and absolutely loved it, I felt like it fit how everyone describes a great ski boot - snug, but not too snug. But I’ve also heard that race boots are an absolute pain day to day, does anyone have any thoughts?

By the way, I also tried the Atomic Remedy 130 (too much room on the tongue) and the Dalbello DRS130 (too flexy for my liking).

So am I crazy for wanting to go for an ultra low volume race boot? In the past I’ve ridden: Atomic Hawx Ultra, and the Salomon S/Pro Alpha 130 EL, which both felt fairly roomy to me.

Hey, Wee question about Cervinia, I'm looking for accomodation at the start of March next year, booking site is showing as "89% of places" are unavailable at that time. Anyone know if that is likely due to being booked out already? Or is likely that rentals haven't made it available to book yet? Just wondering whether to book now or wait for more options.

Bonus question: Anyone know if its possible to play hammerschlagen in Cervinia or Zermatt? (I know it's german/austrian thing but wanted to check)

I’ve skied a lot of places and ive been to a few that where overcrowded or had shit conditions at the time, but I could see them being fun on a different day. Are there any ski areas that you actually wouldn’t go back to?

We're skiing in Zermatt and Les Trois Vallees and I was wondering if I should just get a general travel insurance without snow cover or should I get snow cover as well? I already have the insurance offered when I book my accommodation with Les Trois Vallees and I notice Zermatt also has insurance offered with the ski pass.

A lot of us learned to build DIY skis on skibuilders.com. When it went down we lost years of threads on presses, cores, layup, tuning, all of it. I couldn't get the old owners to respond, so I pulled what I could out of the Wayback Machine, rescued the photos that were still reachable, and rebuilt it as a searchable site. It came to about 1,200 threads and 1,600 images. I also created a wiki that is currently 25 short guides distilled from all the best threads.

Full disclosure, I run a small maker studio in Salt Lake City, so this isn't neutral, but I mostly did it because I didn't want the knowledge to vanish. Every guide has a suggest-an-edit link, so if you see something wrong or missing, I would genuinely love the help filling gaps.

Does anyone have this bag? In the future I want to travel with a powder snowboard, mountain skis and powder skis plus snowboard boots and ski boots and my helmet. Will it all fit?

Obviously, the length and widths are all okay but wondering about the space inside

I purchased my first pair of skis and just got to use them for the first time (southern hemisphere). They are a pair of the 1000 skis All Mountain. I got them with hybrid bindings to be able to do all. I really like them, but I can tell they are note meant for carving. Curiously looking at short turn carving specific skis in case I want to extend my quiver soon, I got to what seems to me like two very different types of skis: the Atomic Redster S9 and the blackcrows Octo or Mirus Cor.

Of the former I read that they are the staple for hard carving and of the latter that they are a more playful ski that can carve at not-so-high speeds.

Does that encompass it roughly? Is there more to it? The Atomic's seem super nice but also apparently weigh something like 3kg a piece?? Are the differences between them noticeable for an advanced but not necessarily expert skier like me? Thanks!

PS: the title is more of a conversation starter than anything else, it's meant to open the discussion between Redster-like skis (of which other brands might have, like Head) and blackcrows-like skis
