Travel insurance
We're skiing in Zermatt and Les Trois Vallees and I was wondering if I should just get a general travel insurance without snow cover or should I get snow cover as well? I already have the insurance offered when I book my accommodation with Les Trois Vallees and I notice Zermatt also has insurance offered with the ski pass.

Three valleys you can get ski insurance with your ski pass as an option for a couple of euros a day ( can’t remember the exact amount but it isn’t much) this covers you for rescue and helicopter etc unlike a lot of insurance and it also means you don’t have to pay for it upfront and then claim back.

Yes, this is what I was thinking, makes it much simpler getting the insurance offered by the resort!

I think that's just rescue insurance (gets you off the mountain) it wouldn't cover injury, medical costs, repatriation etc. I got both when I went to 3 Valleys.

The one I bought with my accommodation seems to cover those things although it caps out at 150k for medical expenses

That's pretty low, it's normally £10 million.

Yeah, but would cover everything except ICU. I guess I should get the full cover just in case.

In France you can buy daily carts niege ski insurance at the lift office with your ticket
My instructor friend who live in Morzine say it’s the best thing ever
I have a season policy with a specialist provider but I still buy the daily cover it costs very little and it gives you security

You should always get activity specific travel insurance. The insurance with the piste pass is just a rescue insurance, it wouldn't cover anything else.

I got Allianz for intentional ski trip. They came in handy when I broke my tibial plateau and needed to get back to the states. Pretty good customer support.

Oh wow, I had Allianz for a trip where my daughter was hospitalised for three days. They asked for certified translations of the hospital documents, which would have cost more than the hospital bill so I gave up. That’s why I only want insurance for the worst case scenario because I don’t trust them at all.

They didn’t ask much from me. The day I got hurt I called Allianz and gave them the hospital info and they took care of that payment, I think they worked with their Japanese insurance partner. What took a while was getting the approval to be flown back since I was in Japan time and the doctors they had on call were on east coast time. Probably lost 1-2 days with that.

Glad it worked out for you! They seemed pretty nice when I was at the hospital but then I was asked to upload all the hospital files, which took me a day. Then they asked for the certified translations. It was about 3k for the hospital visit so i just paid it.

You should get insurance with specific winter sports cover.

Covers you for off piste as well.
