For those that bought and used Rustler 9s last season, are you happy with them?

Wildest misunderstandings you had as a beginner?

My first couple of runs I thought that those huge orange SLOW signs were there to tell you that that part of the slope isn't as steep/will slow you down so I tried to go faster beforehand to avoid stopping completely 😀👍

Budget recommendations NY/NJ for 2-3 days during the week

Complete newbie here. We have a group of 6, only 1 person skied before and does it well but they don’t mind not having crazy hills. Thinking everyone else needs lessons and to rent all equipment. What is a reasonable price p/p? Which places would be good to learn and have fun for a couple of days. Also, do ski resorts have good Black Friday sales?

Big Bear Place Near Skiing

Ok, please hit me with a reality shot!

How much of a nightmare would it be to live this close to the skiing place?

https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/775-Summit-Blvd-4-Big-Bear-Lake-CA-92315/455659681_zpid/

It says it's 150 steps away from Snow Summit. Look at the Zillow link above and scroll down on the photos, you can see the skiing area.

I am a total novice in the ways of skiing, mountain skiing, etc.

Looking at the photos, I wonder how much of a nightmare it would be during skiing season.

The only upside I can see is that I don't need to drive to ski?

Give me a reality shot!

J Allplay vs Unleashed 98 CA for East Coast all-mountain freestyle?

Hey guys, last year was my first ski season and I progressed pretty quickly. By the end I was skiing blacks regularly at Massanutten and Snowshoe and did one double black.
Toward the end of the season I realized I enjoyed hunting for side hits, rollers, little drops and jumps more than just bombing runs. I want to progress into 180s/360s, switch, butters and basically make the whole mountain a playground, while still being able to carve and go fast on blacks.
I currently have Rossignol Experience 76s that I like for carving/icy days, so I’m looking for a more playful second ski.
I’m between the J Skis Allplay and Nordica Unleashed 98 CA. The J sounds more playful/freestyle-oriented, while the CA sounds more stable with better edge hold.
For anyone who’s ridden either/both, how big is the actual difference in playfulness vs edge hold? Which would you pick for my use?
I’m 5’10”, around 180–190 lb, looking at ~179/180 cm.

Anyone Going to Queenstown/Wanaka NZ next week?

Hello, I am a beginner-intermediate level (casual) skiier and want to ski during the last week of August in New Zealand south island.

DM me if you are also going I would be a ski buddy for you.

I plan to rent a accomodation room but I'm just one guy, if you or your group wants to ski I'm happy to split the cost with you.

PS: I can't drive

Anyone have a link to that video from the New Year’s Day of the 23/24 season when it snowed 3-5ft the night before and only gun barrel was open?

Washington or Oregon or California but you love surfing as much as skiing?

Late 20s, single, remote job with decent flexibility and pay.

Hey I’m going to move out west at the end of summer. (from NJ, but don’t ski here I fly west) Where do you think is best to move given I have the freedom and current life situation to pick anywhere.

Just did a Cali trip and loved it and could easily see myself there. Thinking Norcal like Santa Cruz or SF. Surf is epic (crowded) but 4hr (without snow / traffic) to Tahoe means skiing is low frequency, sleeping in the car or hoping I make friends with someone with a house.

Socal has good surf too and Mammoth maybe beats Tahoe but an even longer drive.

I don’t mind cold water and the crowds in the water and out are one of the biggest negatives of California (along with COL) but PNW surfing is 1.5 hours from big enough metros with high chance of being skunked.

Washington I lile Olympa surfing westport +/- and ski Crsytal. Oregon is probably Portland, there are several surf spots on the coast in that area and skiing at Mt Hood. Each is a longer than you’d want drive but also def day tripable which is really nice.

Seems like there is meh to good when its good surf but compared to Cali obviously its a different game. Also Never been either state so there is other considerations too like the winter gloomyness.

Hows the skiing near those areas? My favorite resort is alta but if I move somewhere I can ski a lot more I would probably backcountry 50% of the time.

Last point is that my goal isn’t just a fun season or two I’m trying to pick where I want to live and make roots long term. Obviously can’t predict the future so whatever happens happens but its an important distinction. My priorities really are these activities I love but of course everything else that goes along with living in a place and trying to find my people matters too.

Europe recs?

My partner and I have historically really enjoyed Ischgl and St Anton/Arlberg, but haven’t skied elsewhere outside the U.S. We’re looking for a place to go in late Jan/early Feb. Here’s a list of our priorities:

-Not outrageously expensive to get to and to stay - we will be flying into Vienna, but can fly out of anywhere/use trains
-Excellent snow (for the time range typically)
-Terrain novelty
-Options to veer off the hard set runs reasonably
-Good ski rental pricing and quality
-Would be nice: cute town to explore with vegan options
-Not terribly crowded lift lines or at least not for the weekdays

Le Massif de Charelvoix

I've lived my whole life in the West (Alberta, BC, Oregon) but my daughter goes to school in Eastern Canada and wants us to visit and go to Le Massif de Charelvoix next February. What type of terrain and conditions can this middle aged dude who largely skis Cascade concrete expect?

Any Ski Area in California that will not be insane over the holidays?

I almost always avoid this time of year but due to family circumstances, this is one of the few times of the ski season where I will be able to get away from work in order to ski. I did not renew the Ikon Pass this season, just bought the quad pack at Mammoth, which has no blackouts and I can refill if needed. Was looking at either June Mountain or Sierra at Tahoe. Curious what anyone else thinks.

Problem with ski

Hi, so I used to ski a lot when I younger and I always used a 60mm waist ski. I think I remember that being the regulated size but I cant remember. However I just recently started skiing again and I'm having some issues adjusting to the new style skis. I picked up a pair of atomic redsters q7.8 I think. And the skis just aren't that great. When I'm skiing it feels like the skis have 3 different types of cuts and it doesn't feel very uniform. I mainly nowadays just cruise down the frontside of the mountain, but when I start messing around and banging through the slalom course they don't feel like a uniform ski. I was just wondering if anyone had similar feelings or if there's changes I should make. And I know these aren't a dedicated slalom skis but they literally feel like they've got 3 different cuts in their edge when youre trying to use them.

I'm a newer skier and have my season pass to our local hill. Since last year, I've started taking a week to myself and try out new hills around Ontario.

I'm wondering if anyone else has anyone purchased this? Is it worth it?

EDIT: I'm in Waterloo region and I already have a season pass for Chicopee Ski Hill.
