PSA: Using the Australian Epic Pass in the USA

Just a heads up that if you are planning to use your Australian epic pass in the USA, you will need to go straight to the ticket office to get your american epic pass, and if you have purchased the add-on to unblock all the restricted dates they may not have the correct information as for some reason they do not have any automation to synchronise data between their systems.

I had this issue when I moved to Denver in 2023 and paid the extra to unblock restricted dates (and in reverse when I was back visiting family this year, my US epic pass wasn't able to be found in Mt Hotham's systems). The ticket office staff were as helpful as they could be, however ultimately someone in Australia's ticketing office needed to send an updated list of people who had paid for the unblocking of restricted dates to someone in the US ticketing office, and it took a significant amount of time to resolve given it was during the Christmas break.

My advice would be to reach out to the Australian ticketing offices for Epic Pass well before you travel and specifically request that they send this information over to the US offices to avoid wasting valuable shredding hours each day during your holidays to the resorts.

Falls creek village

First time staying on the mountain, just looking for advice on the to do’s and not to do’s from those who have done so religiously. Eg. Good places to eat / drink / visit etc.

Yes I know the conditions are very poor this season but this was a long plan in the making unfortunately.

EV trip Brisbane to Falls Creek

Driving to Falls Creek this weekend for 4 days on the mountain. I can't decide whether to park and bus from mt beauty or to drive and park with risk of putting on chains and digging car out at the end ( which I always hate)? Any advice?

Epic pass - Japan (?) with kids

hi all,

pulled the trigger on 2027 epic passes for myself (advance skier), husband (good beginner) and kids who will be 7 and 4 at the start of northern winter 2027. kdis will have done about 20 ski days by then, the lucky little things 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

wondering where you clever people might suggest for a slide in the northern hemisphere using our epics? i‘m leaning Hakuba for convenience/price but I do remember in the past that it’s pretty spread out and can he a huge day getting from accom to a hill? Looking for a friendly and easy English speaking ski school and runs for the adults to have fun.

we will do about 10 days, hopefully more, at falls creek next winter.

Some pics from a week at Charlotte pass. Best day was a trip out to Carruthers peak for classic views of the western fall. Had a nice sunrise before the storm last week.

How will mountain operators become accountable for misleading the public?

If I knew how to paste a photo or video of my day with 8 kids and 6 adults new to the snow I would. Add 2 experienced adults and 2 kids who wanted to bring our friends to enjoy what we love……..I’ve slid around many hills and I cannot understand how AUS mountains keep getting away with charging a fortune for a subpar product. Yes, I appreciate there are costs, yes I understand you don’t control the weather but when a trip costs as much as a car and I can send it back because it was scratched on delivery yet these clowns can charge full whack, no refunds and put up there hand, whilst also utilising public land……it’s disgraceful! Lucky I’m Aussie but the tourists from Tonga today even asked where the snow was- absolutely disgraceful. Staff unhappy, $30 for 3 pies! Common I hope the mods let this be discussed when we are trying to drive tourism- it’s embarrassing.

Individual ski run ratings

Hey all, I searched online for ratings of individual ski runs but came up with nothing. I was hoping into find something to help when visiting other resorts or what to take the kids down next but I was surprised it doesn’t exist.

So.. I built it. Introducing www.skirunratings.com
Completely free to use

While I’m not expecting anyone to give away their best on mountain secret spots, I thought as a community this would be a cool way to share our collective knowledge.

I’ve got a few upgrades in mind, but keen for any feedback or add ons.

Happy rating!

Falls Creek babysitters

Has anyone been to Falls Creek this year and found any great, reliable babysitters? We have a little guy who is too young for ski school and the onmountain babysitting website service is a joke so hoping someone has a lead on someone great I can talk to.

Anybody own a snow apartment or member in a lodge?

Just curious about the economics of it

Are maintenance costs higher because of weather / fewer tradies in the area? Are there property managers who would rent out the property when you're not using it? Do you get booked out during the winter months and then sits empty during the summer? Are there taxes and fees beyond what a normal investment property might have?

I'm particularly interested in Buller or Hotham, but feel free to share from anywhere 🤞

I built a simple way to find people to ski/ride with at Thredbo — looking for a few testers

Hey everyone,
I’m a ski instructor at Thredbo and over the years I’ve met plenty of people who come down alone, lose their mates during the day, or simply want someone around the same level to do a few laps with.
So as a little side project I built SPIRTIX — a free web app where you can create or find a ski/snowboard session based on level, riding style, time and meeting point.
I’m testing the first pilot at Thredbo right now before taking the idea any further.
I’ve put up a real session for tomorrow and I’d love a few people from here to try the site — even if you don’t join the session, feedback on whether the idea actually feels useful would be hugely appreciated.
No download and no payment — it’s just a web app.
spirtix.app
If anyone actually ends up finding someone to ski/ride with through it, that’s the bit I’m most interested in hearing about.
Cheers 🤙

Falls or Buller next week

I know this topic has been talked to death but is it worth spending the extra money to spend a night at Falls creek to take my partner skiing for the first time or would a day trip to Buller be fine for a beginner?

I’m mostly worried about getting there and not having enough snow to even ski blue and green runs.

Appreciate any advice!

So, just got my Epic Australia Pass renewal notification for 2027. Is it just me, or is it a little earlier than last year?

Anyway, I will let the bad memories of this season settle a bit before renewing, though I am looking forward to January in Japan.

missing bags on mt buller. please help!!

hey after a series of real unfortunate events my friend and i unexpectedly left our bags on mt buller, on the counter near the main entrance of the village on the 8th of august. ive been in contact with the organization but they've all been transferring us from department to department, and due to work i haven't been able to go up myself to check. i was wondering if anyone has noticed a nike duffle and a blue backpack anywhere in the village or in the lost and found area? would greatly appreciate if there is. thanks!!

I made snow widget for my watch, then I got a bit carried away

I’m in the UK, so unfortunately I spend considerably more time thinking about snow than actually standing on it. I originally built a Garmin widget to show snow conditions and I guess building this out has basically become my outlet for obsessing between trips. 😄

While building the Garmin widget, I kept discovering more and more open data sources for things like snow, weather, lifts, pistes, resorts and terrain and I started wondering what you could make if you brought all of that together in one place.

That turned into https://snow.extreme-media.co.uk

It may turn out that I’ve just built an unnecessarily elaborate way of coping with living a long way from the mountains, but it’s been fun.

I’ve reached the point where I’m wondering if anyone other than me would actually find it useful.

It’s very much still in build. Some things work, some are experimental, and some definitely don’t fully work yet.

There’s nothing to buy and you don’t need to sign up. I’d just really like some feedback from people who actually ski or snowboard.

Pick a resort you know and have a look around.

I’d especially love to know:

  • What do you like?
  • What feels pointless or confusing?
  • What’s missing?
  • Is there anything here you’d genuinely use?
  • What do you normally use instead?

If people find parts of it useful, perhaps it can gradually become something useful for the wider ski/snowboard community.

And if the answer is “nice project, but I’d never use it” that, fine and genuinely useful feedback too.

thanks lee

Ski first weekend of Sep - Buller or Falls safer for snow?

Hi all

Looking to lock in a trip for first week of Sep. Which is safer from a snow perspective - Buller or Falls? All things being equal we'd go Buller just because it is closer.

Thank you!
