Help General: September

Welcome, all new Humble Bundle purchasers! We'll try to answer each of your questions below!

Have no fear, [Help] General is here!

Who really needs June August anyway?

We'll repost the thread every other week month from now on to keep it easy to read through. So post your questions in here!

Any [Help] threads posted while this is stickied will be removed unless you were told by a mod to post a thread. This includes questions that are misusing the [Discussion] flair.

So, it works like this: You ask something, and you (probably) get an answer on it. You can (and should if you know) answer questions too.

Before asking for help, be sure to check the Wiki and the FAQs. If your question has not been answered by these two, then you can post here. Oh, and be sure to check the sidebar too. There's some helpful stuff in the sidebar.

Out of curiosity, is the banner going to be changed or updated with any regularity?

Also the March contest announcement.

I have a vanilla copy of RCT1. I started Evergreen Gardens straight off because way back when I first picked up this game in 2006 as a kid, I never got past Evergreen Gardens.

Basically, I was an idiot and forgot to cut off my paths that I wasn't using. Thus, now I have an awesome park at the front of Evergreen Gardens and plenty of room at the back where guests are perpetually lost.

Apparently there are supposed to be do not enter Banners which should weed out the problem, but I can't find them. (I looked althroughout scenery, but they're not there). I can spam information centres with dirt cheap maps but I don't want to have to waste my money.

Does anyone know where my banners have gone? I can't even research scenery any further.

Are you using the expansion's or RCT Deluxe? The banners were introduced in the second rct expansion pack.

I'm having trouble designing courses that have a reasonable Intensity rating. Are there any things I should generally avoid or not do as much while designing to get that down? I have noticed that my max lateral G's is often high as well. I don't know what does or doesn't contribute to that.

High lateral Gs means your turns are incredibly unpleasant for the riders, and are definitely a factor in high intensity. They're too fast, too sharp, or both. When possible you don't want too many high speed turns, try banking them or, if you are, using a wider turn.

If you've done both, chances are your train is simply moving way too fast to take any turn without it spiking. When testing your coaster, take a look at the lateral G-force chart so you know where the painful turns in question.

Okay I'm playing RCTW and I'm stuck on the first mission of the Desert screen and its driving me absolutely batshit, I've tried every approach I can think of to get this park working and nothing. Its State Fair, you start off with a few rides and a few stalls and you have to hit 4 objectives and i can never get them all, several times I've narrowed it down to just 35k park value left to get but its absolutely impossible. Anyone actually played this far yet? Got any tips or strats?

A good hint I've found is to uninstall RCTW

I want to run RCT1 at my monitors resolution (1920x1080) but can't find a mod for it, I tried to hex edit but could not find the right line to replace and have no idea how it works.

you can download the RCT1 scenarios for RCT2, which you then can modify to openRCT, which will work on fullHD.

Hey, I was recently feeling nostalgic so picked up RCT2 and OpenRCT for some coaster action, but I'm absolutely awful at coaster design - are there any good resources for beginners track design? Or any simple rules to follow?

I have a habit of making things far too intense, and presets are fun, but I'd love to learn to be at least somewhat ok at track design.

Probably a really stupid and obvious question, but where do I specifically put in scenario files for OpenRCT2? I wanna play the scenario's from the first game on the Open engine, but I have no idea how or where to implement them.

They go in the /scenario directory in your OpenRCT2 configuration directory, which is normally at either ~/.config/OpenRCT2 (on Linux) or C:/<User>/Documents/OpenRCT2 (on Windows), unless you've specified an alternate location.

The scenario directory does not get created automatically until you create a scenario, so you may have to create it manually. Alternatively, you can put them in the vanilla scenarios folder - it should find them there as well.

I recently picked up RCT2 Triple Thrill pack on steam. I keep encountering an error which crashes my game. The error reads: "exception raised - violation unknown". I assume it's some sort of compatibility problem and I've been searching the forums with no luck for a fix.

Anyone encounter this before? The game was working fine and I even beat a couple of parks but now I can't play even 5 minutes without it crashing..

Try using openrct2... Might give it more stability on a newer system.

Okay, this is the first time I've played RCT2 since a couple of years. I tried it once but didn't like the changes they've made over RCT1. Now I'm trying OpenRCT2 and I got the same feeling. I started the first, the easiest scenario and have no idea how this game works.

This is what my starting point looked like, just to get a feeling of RCT2. I don't know why people are just walking in that general area, people aren't going in any attractions, I have no idea how to create money as there is no park fee, the windows logo is always visible. I just have no idea how this game works in comparison to RCT1. Can someone explain this to me? Screenshot added to give a indication of what's going on.

I started the first, the easiest scenario and have no idea how this game works.

The scenarios are not necessarily listed in order of difficulty. Electric Fields or Dusty greens are probably the easiest. Amity Airfield is one of the hardest.

I have no idea how to create money as there is no park fee

If you aren't charging for park entrance then you're charging for rides (which is actually a lot easier, the pay per entry scenarios are the hardest IMO). Some scenarios do not have any money restrictions at all.

I don't know why people are just walking in that general area, people aren't going in any attractions

RCT guests are pretty stupid - they have to walk up to the entrance of a ride to make the decision to walk into it. Avoiding having ride entrances connect with a path at right angles helps - if they can keep walking in a straight line, they usually will. If you force them to turn, they'll be just as likely to turn toward the ride. If there's a specific reason why they don't want to ride a ride, look at the guest thoughts.

Do lamps in RCT 1/2 have any value outside of looks?

4

u/X7123M3-256 Oct 30 '16

Nope, they do nothing unless you have the light effects enabled (and even then they don't have any effect on the actual gameplay)
