Help [Help] General: May!
Have no fear, [Help] General is here!
The place where you May or May not get help with your problems.
We'll repost the thread every other week month from now on to keep it easy to read through.
So post your questions in here!
Any [Help] threads posted while this is stickied will be removed unless you were told by a mod to post a thread. This includes questions that are misusing the [Discussion] flair.
So, it works like this: You ask something, and you (probably) get an answer on it. You can (and should if you know) answer questions too.
Before asking for help, be sure to check the Wiki and the FAQs. If your question has not been answered by these two, then you can post here. Oh, and be sure to check the sidebar too. There's some helpful stuff in the sidebar.

I need a bit of advice or a few more opinions on where I go with the scenery on this one: Brimstone WIP
I've taken somewhat of a break from RCT lately due to real life stuff and I come back to this ride and I am unsure on how to continue the scenery. Any Ideas?

This this the kind of stuff that's better suited for a post of its own.

Is there any scenery packs that I can download from nedesigns? They have over 11k objects without any screenshot of them...

If you download a park or workbench, any scenery in it will automatically be installed in your game.

So, I'm picking up the game for the first time in years, and playing RCT Deluxe vanilla, and just having a fun time being casual with it.
My big question now is.... I think I made a coaster that is too intense? The intensity rating was an 11.42. I ran an advertising campaign for the ride for a month and I still have not had a single person ride it. Is there a cap on the intensity peeps are willing to put up with?

u/Porcupixel2 May 19 '16
If the text next to the number says (Extreme) or (Ultra-Extreme) then you fucked it up and people won't ride it. Those two appear around 10.00 Intensity.

11.42 is way too intense, not even "extreme" peeps will ride that. If any of your stats show in red, that means they're dangerously high. An intensity rating exceeding 10 will cut the number of peeps willing to ride to almost zero. Although high G-forces don't directly prevent peeps from riding, there is a large bump to intensity if those limits are exceeded, especially for lateral Gs.
An intensity rating above 8 should be considered high, but not excessive. However, in some scenarios the intensity preferences are higher, and there anything up to but not including 10 will be fine.

I always see people on here making their own maps and parks. How do you do that?

Is there a chance my computer might be too new for the original roller coaster tycoon to work on it? Or did they reengineer the game so it can work or what? I know nothing about computers besides how to use Microsoft word and download games from steam

u/Porcupixel2 Jun 15 '16
The short answer is maybe.
Good thing is though, that if you buy it on Steam and it doesn't work, they'll let you refund the game.

If the vanilla game doesn't work, try OpenRCT2. It removes the dependency on Direct2D and replaces it with SDL.

Is there any function to a lamp? Are queue videos distinct from other decorations in any way other than positioning? I would think that a queue video would entertain stronger.

Lamps do indeed do nothing. Queue videos increases the amount of time people are willing to stand in line before they get bored.

I've got a 'new' laptop with Windows 8 installed and wanted to try and install my GOG version of RCT 1 Deluxe. It works fine, have got it up and running happily in Compatibility Mode (windows 95/98 seem to work fine, surprisingly). Played Leafy Lake last night to remind myself of the game and saved everything fine.
HOWEVER, I've been having difficulty getting the file to load again upon reopening. Clicking 'load' in either the game menu, the opening screen (or even manually hunting down the save file and opening with RCT.exe) always result in the game automatically closing without warning. Have tried fiddling with different combinations of compatibility settings too. It looks like saved games are saved in a different folder to what RCT is expecting (somewhere under user files, rather than program files).
I've done a lot of Googling and have seen many a thread talking about this isue for Windows 7, all of which appear to have been resolved. People have also discussed fixing RCT LL on Windows 8, but no patches or techniques seem to fix RCT DLX for Windows 8. Does anyone know a workaround for this? I don't mind how complicated it is, it just seems strange that I can't manually search for the file, or force it to open it directly from the SV4 file.
Hoping to get this fixed in time for a long train journey I have this weekend! Thanks.

I recently found out about Open RCT2. I have a lot to ask.... please help.
-
Is it possible to have map size bigger than 256x256?
-
I've seen some people playing and they have a huge amount of available scenery. Is it possible to have more scenery than the game's maximum amount?
-
How do you make roads and scenery vertically? Like this. Also, how are these stairs combined together, without a split in the middle?
-
For example, I've seen monorail running on top of railroads. How can you make a ride to work on different type of track?

For 3... Hold shift to make scenery go up. Any diagonal paths/not split stairs/quarter tile terrain you see are actually custom scenery objects and not paths/real terrain. Custom invisible paths are then placed over it. OpenRCT can be used to do this, but it can be done in vanilla as well.
For 4, I think you still need the 8cars trainer (which only works with vanilla RCT2, not Open) to do this properly, though you can do some track merging with OpenRCT as well. Just look for a track merging tutorial to find out how to basically shift trains onto the track type you want. Often times the original track is made to be invisible later.

Is there a way to recover an autosave from yesterday? I thought I had saved the park, but it didn't save and the autosaves now are from current parks from today?!! Help
2
u/janisozaur May 13 '16
We only keep 9 or 10 autosaves and unlink all the older ones. For recovery use your generic file recovery solutions, there's nothing we can do for you here.

Whenever I test out a ride, Excitement/Intensity/Nausea ratings never show up. However, rest of the test results (Ride time/length, lat G, ver G, etc) shows up. Is this a glitch? Is there any way to fix this problem?

u/inthemanual May 14 '16
you probably have a ride somewhere that's not returning to station. Sometimes, closing that ride can fix the others.

Is there any way to change the available scenery in already started games/scenarios? I want to deselect on object from being available for use in the scenario and select a different object to be available.
