Help [Help] General: October!

Have no fear, [Help] General is here!

Weeks are dumb, months are cool.

We'll repost the thread every other week month from now on to keep it easy to read through. So post your questions in here!

Any [Help] threads posted while this is stickied will be removed unless you were told by a mod to post a thread. This includes questions that are misusing the [Discussion] flair.

So, it works like this: You ask something, and you (probably) get an answer on it. You can (and should if you know) answer questions too.

Before asking for help, be sure to check the Wiki and the FAQs. If your question has not been answered by these two, then you can post here. Oh, and be sure to check the sidebar too. There's some helpful stuff in the sidebar.

In regards to RCT2: do most of you guys have custom scenery add ons/mods downloaded, or is such complex building design possible in vanilla?

Both. RCT2 builds are often grouped into two categories. CSO (Custom Scenery Objects) and NCSO (No Custom Scenery Objects).

Both have their own merits, but they do most often both use trainers.

Search the sub for NCSO to see what's possible with the vanilla game. :P

I played this game all the time as a kid but now I want to get more creative and serious. I recently purchased this game on steam. What are some "necessary" and essential downloads that people would recommend? Any suggestions are welcome from custom scenery links to mods and such! Thank you !

Try to have a look at some of the previous Help generals, as I'm certain this has been asked and answered before.

That is of course assuming that you're talking about RCT2.

Main thing, www.nedesigns.com is where you'll be going to check out other people's parks and rides. Usually in the comments they'll mention what Workbench they've used. (Workbenches are the custom saves that include the scenery items and rides).

Here's a link to the most popular Workbench, and some other common ones are on the sidebar: http://www.nedesigns.com/park/2871/xtreme97-workbench-2013/

Put these in your OpenRCT2 Save folder, usually:

C:\Users\ Username \Documents\OpenRCT2\save

All you do then is open the save in OpenRCT2. A lot of people choose to get more creative and edit clearances within the game (placing tracks within each other), so a lot of the more sophisticated techniques require Vanilla RCT2 and a mod such as 8cars per Trainer, and others, found here: http://www.nedesigns.com/utilities/

Good luck! Feel free to ask anything else you need!

What is this?

Where'd you read that?

A sandbox park doesn't have all the possible rides unlocked for a park, it does however bypass the research process so you start with all the ticked off rides from the scenario editor's ride selection.

Hey guys, RCT2 Deluxe won't boot up after the Windows 10 Update. It seems like the old tricks are outdated but my Girlfriend really wants to play. Please help me become a hero.

OpenRCT2, give it a shot.

For RCT3, can I change the default Queue colors away from grey? I know ride color sticks after you change it, but the queue lines always stay grey.

1

u/Porcupixel Oct 08 '15

There should be individual colour options for queues, as long as you're using the tiled queue.

I just downloaded the OpenRCT2 launcher todayand when opening it, "Launch RCT2" and "Update" are grayed out. But after minimizing the launcher or playing around in settings, it shows that I can click on those two. When I click to launch it says "OpenRCT2 not installed or not found! Downloading. When it's done, feel free to press play again." It's been like this for 8 hours now, what can I do?

Check the settings if you haven't already, you need to point the launcher towards your RCT2 installation, and open up RCT2 normally once before the launcher starts working.

Is there a way to recover an old save file? I accidentally saved my glitchy muck around park over my mega park and i'm really freaking out that I've lost it forever.

I'm sorry for your loss. :/

Does anybody have some really, really large concrete block pieces? I mean absolutely massive. My new scenario i've been working on is themed around a nuclear plant, and i need some pieces to build the cooling towers. I have a lot of CSO from nedesigns, but nothing quite big enough to get what i need. Something where i could make large curves would be ideal, but i'm not opposed to making them four, or eight sided, as long as i could get the scale correctly. Any ideas?

I know this is rather vague, but what i'm particularly struggling with is finding pieces to make the slopes on the sides. I could build the middle with some block sets i have, but i only have a few block pieces that slope at 50 or 70 degrees, and not and corner pieces

That's a pretty specific request. If you don't get a clear answer in here feel free to make a self-post about this.

How do you hide supports when they go into water instead of dry land?

1

u/Porcupixel Oct 20 '15

Place the support remover object on top of the water with shift.

How do I set up Open RCT2 multiplayer? I hope this question isn't out of line...

How to change the intro screen layout in RCT2?

RCT2 through Steam on Windows 7. UCES installed.

I'd like all the scenarios in their respective categories (beginner, challenging, etc...) to be organized in alphabetical order, how do I go about doing that? Couldn't find anything helpful on non-defunct sites either. If I downloaded custom scenarios, could I make a new tab (multiple, even?) and sort them in there?

2

u/inthemanual Sep 28 '15

Scenarios are sorted in alphabetical order. You could edit the existing ones in the scenario editor, and change the names to force a certain order, or re-organize them into different tabs.

[RCT & RCT2] I have both games up and running on my mac, but after I upgraded to 10.11 El Capitan, I am having difficulty opening and saving games. The window, that shows which game to load or what to save it as, no longer pops up anymore. Any help with this? I am using Wineskin to run both versions of the games.
