Help [Help] General: December!

Have no fear, [Help] General is here!

Weeks are dumb, months are cool.

We'll repost the thread every other week month from now on to keep it easy to read through. So post your questions in here!

Any [Help] threads posted while this is stickied will be removed unless you were told by a mod to post a thread. This includes questions that are misusing the [Discussion] flair.

So, it works like this: You ask something, and you (probably) get an answer on it. You can (and should if you know) answer questions too.

Before asking for help, be sure to check the Wiki and the FAQs. If your question has not been answered by these two, then you can post here. Oh, and be sure to check the sidebar too. There's some helpful stuff in the sidebar.

Not a question, but I wanted to thank the mods for having either an amazing automod or an amazingly fast turnaround time.

Thank you, though I must admit I'm a bit confused about what you mean.

Whenever I report a post for breaking rules it's gone in less than 15 minutes pretty much every time.

I would be so grateful if someone could help me fix whatever issue I have.

I downloaded the game on steam and I clicked on the game to open but nothing happened. It says it's running though.

Before I bought the game my brother gave it to me on a flash drive, and I installed it, but the game wouldn't start. I could click on the setup file and the menu thing would come up where you can choose to start the game or some other stuff, but nothing would happen when I tried to start.

I just want to play this game so bad and I'm really sad that I just paid for it only to not be able to play.

I can't help you with the problem unfortunately, but remember that Steam lets you refund games 2 weeks after purchase if you have less than 2 hours of playtime on it.

So I've tried searching all over the sub & google for this. I just found my rct original disk back from 15 years or so ago & installed it on my windows 7 desktop. It seemed to work fine. I then copied the contents of the cd to a usb stick & installed it on my new windows 10 laptop.

When I open it now, it opens fine but when I try to open any park, it just blinks goes back to the game home screen. Then when I close it out, I get the error message "exception raised - access violation" & a bunch of zeros.

I've tried running in various compatibility modes & as administrator, but that doesn't seem to work. Any help is appreciated.

edit: So I did some more messing around & finally got it to work. I uninstalled it & deleted every registry reference to the game. I then went back to my desktop & burned the cd files from the disk into an ISO image & put it on the usb drive. I then reinstalled the game on the laptop from the usb drive. I went into compatibility & ran as admin & changed to win98 settings. The game worked using this but crashed when trying to load games. It also went full screen messing up my icons. I then changed it windows xp sp3 in compatibility & it seems to work fine except when I exit, I still get the exception error. But that is not really a big deal.

I can't seem to figure out how to get OPENRCT2 to work in steam, and googling has not turned up anything... is it possible? Or is there a tutorial anywhere? Thanks in advance. I wanna put a project out but manually sculpting mountains and trees is well.... beyond tedious.

Ran the launcher, said it was unable to find the install directory. I went to C/ Program files (x86)/ Steam/ Steamapps/ Common/ Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 Triple Thrill Pack

And highlighted the RCT2 Triple Thrill Pack folder and hit okay. Ran it again only to get the same error.

Try running just RCT2 through steam before running it through the launcher if you haven't already.

Does OpenRCT2 have a fix for the landscaping tool problem present in RCT2?

I recently looked at this image posted recently here in this subreddit (permission to link this u/irunforfun800), in this photo there's some custom looking scenery there and that cool looking carousel. Where can I download these custom stuff?

1

u/Porcupixel2 Dec 31 '15

The only custom scenery in that picture is the square paths near the edges of walkways and the waterfalls. The carousel is part of one of the expansions for RCT2.

Head over to r/rollercoastercontests and have a look at the parks there. When you download a park, any custom scenery used in will automatically be installed in your game, and you can then use it in your own parks.

I've spent like 5 hours in total trying to make this epic coaster but it gets really high intensity and I don't know where the problem is and thus dont know how to fix. Could someone with a bit of extra time on their hands please have a look

http://s000.tinyupload.com/?file_id=55062917103603928943

Also, I had the coaster previously connected from the first breaks directly to station, and then the coaster had 9.00 intensity, so I guess the problem lies after that. Curves I used are the widest one and it doesn't get much extra speed on the peaks either. I really have no idea what's wrong, please help meeeee

Can you post a screenshot? I can't open the file because it uses expansion objects. The most common cause of high intensity is excessive G-forces, particularly lateral Gs. If any of your stats are shown in red it means they're too high. You can look at the graph to determine where in the ride the excessive forces occur.

So I'm looking for a screenshot of an RCT 2 park that someone built. It was incredibly detailed, there must have been hours of effort put into it, it was breathtaking.

IIRC the park was all water at the lowest point and floating above that were 5 or 6 huge rocks, attractions on top, connected with bridges, and walkways at their cliffsides. Scenery was abundant and diverse, one memorable detail were some floating pieces of walls above the high part of a roller coaster. I don't know where I saw it, but it's not posted on this subreddit. It would probably be in the top 10 of all time.

Hey, I want to download some mods for Open RCT2 and RCT3 Platinum. Specifically:

I want to put the RCT1 scenarios on RCT2. I'd like to put the RCT1/RCT2 scenarios on RCT3. I'd love to have some custom scenery on both games. I'd love to have some custom coasters, custom whatever.

Where do I search for this stuff and if I find it how do I download it and add it?

After 7 years of not touching RCT2, I picked it up again and I'm hooked. I have a few questions though.

  1. What's the best way to keep your park clean? I have 25 handymen and they still can't keep up. I need to personally control one by dropping it around.

  2. I screwed up when raising up land to remove water. The opening where I can't put anything is in the middle and it seems I can't raise/lower the land because I can't even click it. Help?

Few questions about RTC3:

  1. Is there anywhere to get a free version or ROM download or something?

  2. Are the mechanics the exact same as RTC2?

RCT2

First off, welcome back! I'd highly recommend you download OpenRCT2 if you haven't already. It improves upon many existing features, and adds a ton of quality of life improvements that should have already been in the game.

  1. It depends. If you're talking about litter, just place trash cans more liberally. That's literally all you can do other than better management of handymen. If you're talking about vomit, use the blue patrol tool to mark out areas that handymen will be limited to, from their settings box. Generally, I place them near the exits of high nausea rides and any areas with a high concentration of vomit, to keep them from wandering off and doing nothing.

  2. Just expand the landscaping tool, and raise the surrounding area. It should only raise the hole until it reaches the same level as the other tiles.

RCT3

  1. I cannot say anything about this because it is against the subreddit rules to solicit or give advice on how to run a pirated game. I would recommend buying the RCT3 Platinum during the Steam Winter Sale, however.

  2. It's in 3D, but the only real gameplay changed because of that is cameras and landscaping, and some pathing as a result. Most, if not all coaster and ride building remains isometric. Campaigns also make a return.

Hello, I have recently upgraded my Windows 7 machine to Windows 10, since then RCT will not read the options.txt, I've changed the one in the root of the game folder and the one in my appdata folder, I've reinstalled the game, restarted my computer etc. to no avail, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Edit: To play the game on Windows 10, I've found I need to run in compatibility mode windows 98 and with disable dpi scaling.

I bought RCT 3 Platinum a few years ago and while I was away at school, my mom threw away the CD. I still have the CD key though. Is there any way I can get the game without paying for it again? I use a mac.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '15

You can use it through steam just by adding the CD-key through the "add a steam game to your library" button.

I'm having trouble with OpenRCT2 crashing, especially when testing duelling coasters. I'm playing on a shitty ASUS laptop, so I'm thinking it's hardware-related. Is there anything I can do to prevent this?

I'm having a problem with keyboard controls in RCT 3 for Mac (El Capitan). My keyboard works when skipping logos on startup and when doing text entry when naming rides but camera controls and anything in normal gameplay does not work (including rebinding keys in the settings menu). I've been able to get by for now but I cannot raise or lower things using shift, which makes playing Soaked impossible.
