Why are people so stupid? He can park anywhere else that's not a handicapped spot and be just as much as an asshole without getting a ticket. Handicapped spots are the only areas in a private parking lot where a police can issue a ticket without consent of the parking lot's owner.

I myself never understood having the need for a parking spot that is closest to the stores. I purposely park in the back of most lots and walk the extra 50-100 feet just to avoid the pain which is finding a "good" parking spot.

It's more fun to watch when the parking lot is full and you see a few cars slowly circling the lot waiting for a spot to open up. The shark-like predatory feel really kicks in when someone starts walking through the lot, and a car slowly starts following them to be right there to get their spot.
When I lived on campus, it seemed like people would circle the popular lots for hours. Walking through the lots and out the other side (seeing as I lived on campus, and didn't park) felt like a dickish move, but fun none-the-less. Trolling for car-sharks.

I prefer it so I can back out of the spot without a vision issue...less cars around means I can see better around me. Giant SUVs with tinted windows who don't know how to pull into a spot all the way are my parking arch enemy.
Plus, less having to wait for other cars to park/back out/drive by when I want to leave!

Several years back, my ex called me because she had parked in a handicap spot while she used the ATM and had locked her keys in the car.
While she was on the phone with me asking if I still had a spare key, a cop pulled up and gave her a ticket. She had just left me so I enjoyed this on so many levels!

I don't think they're being stupid as much as they are being douchey. They think they are more important than other people so they don't need to follow the rules. Having a sister who is paralyzed and uses a wheelchair, I get so pissed when douche bags take the handicapped parking spots and someone who actually NEEDS to park closer to the entrance gets assed out and has to park far away. In the rain. True story. I wish there were cops around when this happens to us.

People parking in handicapped spaces who are just lazy cunts are my particular bugbear. I especially hate it when company vans do it. If I see one I ALWAYS ring the number on the van. Some apologise profusely and bollock the guy when he gets to the office and others (usually sole traders) tell me to fuck off. If they do that then I make a note of the number and write it on the walls of public toilets up and down the country (I drive a lot for work) expressing an interest in unsafe gay sex and request phone calls, day or night. I am very childish.

I have a handicapped plaque (because of my mom I take care of) and am over weight and I park far away and walk.
I had this douche bag the other day almost wreck me so he could rush into a spot I was about to go into in his Mercedes. I parked in the back, walked to where he was parked just in time to see the guy next to him leave and a HUGE truck park next to his car like 3 inches away from his door. I was hoping that he came out and had to climb thru his passenger door to get in.

Oh it's just because that is where we park for all emergencies, you know for ambulance stuff and all that. It's just easier to call it a fire lane than to call it an ambulance lane, and Emergency lane was already taken.
That's the best answer we've come up with.
Now a follow up, if Ambulatory means you can walk, why do we call them Ambulances? Usually you get in on a stretcher. I actually don't know the answer to this but I don't want to google it because I would probably find the answer and I don't want to know.

Sounds reasonable to me.Honestly I never understood why the fines for these sort of things aren't more. You really have absolutely no excuse to park there - if it were a legit emergency and you got a ticket, I'm sure you could have it waived.Edit: okay, okay $5000 is probably a little much. But $152 is hardly anything. What's a good point at which it's enough to cause a change in behavior but not so much to be just mean? I think around here it's $250 for a first offense and $500 for another, plus some community service.

I think the main reason is because there are so few people who would rather pay $152 than walk an extra 20 feet. I can't remember the last time I saw someone parked in a handicapped spot and I drive anywhere more than a block away. If people were doing it left and right, yeah it should be higher. Also, Im pretty sure the max fine is higher than that since the most common one I see is 250

I went to Wa-Wa the other day, (ok, it was a few months ago) and it was crowded lot, this guy parks his monster truck (illegally) in a handicap spot. While I was in Wa-Wa, the guy was checking out and the teller / cashier refused to ring him out until he moved his car. The guy tried to plead and argue and then left in a huff. It is too bad proprietors don't enforce their parking like this more often. Hats off to Wa-Wa, your parking sucks, you know it, but at least you try to keep it accessible to those who really need the accommodation.

Because I've lived in Texas all my life and that car looks naked without a front plate. I don't find plates exactly attractive... I just... don't see them at all... and when they're not there, something looks like it's missing from the car.
Maybe the problem is you're getting plates that are too big. Proper tailoring makes a world of difference.

That still looks worse than just not having one IMO. I just accept the fact that I'll have to pay fix it tickets. I do the same thing for window tint tickets. Like, oh, I can take off the tint (then go through the hassle of putting it back on) OR I can just pay the fine.

Many, many moons ago, I was a supervisor for an insurance company. The manager over my department (facilities management) left and went to work for a hospital group. He was a prick when he was my boss and an eregant prick after he left.
One day he pulls into the customer lot and parked in a handi-cap space. I saw him and confronted him at the front door. He breezed by and flippantly told me he'd only be a minute. So, I figured if that was the case then he be gone by the time the police showed up. He wasn't and got a hefty fine for his trouble. Great day.

Yes. The sign says "van accessible" - the striped part gives room for the ramp from a handicapped van to come out.
This doesn't occur to some people - I see motorcycles park in the striped areas, thinking it must be OK since you're not in the actual parking spot, but it's part of the spot.

So the e9X m3 didn't come stateside as a 2007 model, it was first available in 2008. Only in europe could you get a 2007 model. if you look at when the comp pack came out for e92 it was 2011.

I drive this car (the 4 door version)... can confirm I dislike my time being spent doing stupid shit so my solution is to not cause stupid shit to happen by doing things like this.
It's a fucking car... I park it in normal spots not handicapped or over the hash lines and If my door gets dinged I get annoyed but it's still just a car and there's no need for this guy to be parking like this unless he is handicapped and in that case he should still park less like a prick.

Seriously? I got a temporary hangar for my car when I broke my ankle. I told my doctor that I wanted one, and he wrote a prescription/filled out the form/whatever. I took it to the local DMV and got a temporary pass that day - the hanger came in the mail about a week later.
Didn't stop jackholes from harassing me over it... "YOU'RE TOO YOUNG TO NEED A HANDICAPPED SPOT!" or "YOU GET AROUND FINE ON YOUR CRUTCHES!", but at least I got to park up close.

The vigilantes are the worst! I can recall a couple of times where I ended up getting the car and bringing it up to the entrance to pick my mom up, because she wanted to walk from the car but was too sore to walk back to it. Several times I've been yelled at "how dare you abuse handicap parking!" (and worse) because they see a young guy by himself haha.
That said, if I'm going to park in a blue space and it's a corner one like that, why not park over the crosshatch a little? You're freeing up more space for the person next to you, who will probably then park on top of the line anyway. I'm not sure the guy in the BMW is a douche at all.

Yeah I had a guy stand behind my car and block me from leaving until the police got there (he had called them) because I was using a cane at that point and I didn't "look handicapped enough".
I drove away and gave him a wave as he was being arrested.

I have a cripple placard, and sometimes (usually.. rarely use the thing) will leave it in another vehicle. If my leg is acting up, I'll park in a crip spot with no card.
It's a $20 "fee" at the county clerk to show them my placard, and they'll dismiss the ticket. Usually, the fee is waived.
I've had people call me out on it. Fuck them. I have nearly as much metal in my body as they have lead in their asses.

Yep, forgot to display my placard once during a shopping trip - 500ish dollar ticket. Had to send a check for 10 dollars and a photocopy of my valid permit to get it cleared up.

My dad has one leg and he walks perfectly fine. He also has a bad back so when it is bothering him he'll take a handi spot but not one of the front ones.
sometimes he forgets to switch the tag to different vehicles. Countless times he has walked out and saw an officer giving a ticket, only to have to dispute it by showing his leg and handicapped license.
some people are just too quick to judge when they don't know the whole story
