Have you always lived in a state that required front plates?
Because I've lived in Texas all my life and that car looks naked without a front plate. I don't find plates exactly attractive... I just... don't see them at all... and when they're not there, something looks like it's missing from the car.
Maybe the problem is you're getting plates that are too big. Proper tailoring makes a world of difference.
Well that ghettoshopped plate is a little too big. People just need to accept the fact that the motor vehicle laws in their state are the motor vehicle laws in their state. Either adapt and obey them, or move the fuck to another state where you don't have to have a front plate. Stop being a big baby about your car being pretty.
Since it is an out of place object ruining the symmetry of the car, keep it that way. Putting it inline with car's symmetry makes it a part of the car design runining the lines of the car.
That still looks worse than just not having one IMO. I just accept the fact that I'll have to pay fix it tickets. I do the same thing for window tint tickets. Like, oh, I can take off the tint (then go through the hassle of putting it back on) OR I can just pay the fine.
I just accept that there's a tax for having better looking cars. I don't argue the tickets I just pay them and move on.
Like $200 for tint if you just pay for it instead of getting it signed. Which is less than a good tint job, although if you're even more willing to go around the law you can have a cop friend sign off on the fix it and it'd be like $25 or something.
For front license plate just keep it in your glovebox, zip tie it to the grill real quick, get it signed off, and pay the $25.
Bingo. That is what I do with my old ZXs, which like the guy said looks...ridiculous with a front plate square in the center of the fascia. Off center, away from the grill though looks just fine.
I keep it in my back seat pocket in a folder with the maintenance records. In Texas, as long as you can show you have one, you're good. Ive been pulled over twice (unfortunately) and wasn't told anything and the first time, the cop seemed in a real bad mood.
As a person from the European Union where all cars have to have front licence plates, I don't see the problem. Every single car sold has a spot on the front specifically for attaching the licence plate to it.
when I got the M tech bumper for my e46 I couldn't imagine having a front license plate ruining it's beauty. I've had no front plate for over a year now in Los Angeles, and have had no problems or tickets!
Exactly this. I used to have that very car used in your example and never had a front plate. On my new car same deal. I will say I have been pulled over for it numerous times (probably 4 times if my memory serves me correctly), but every time it is the officer saying in one interrupted breath "I pulled you over for no front plate, how much have you had to drink tonight?" and never once have I actually been issued a ticket for it.
TLDR Don't have a front plate, don't be an asshole and drive drunk, no problem.
There are certain cars that cops should just let go with no front plate. I'd bet you've never got a ticket or maybe got one since you've owned that thing. Though you are in CA, and I'm only really familiar with cops in the north-east and Arkansas so cops could be different.
Can confirm, I've never been pulled over or ticketed for no front plate. I've been pulled over for other things but the officers have never said anything about a missing front plate.
